Pairing: Wolverine/Rogue, plus assorted others

Why this must be read:

*cue porn music*

Beth has an amazing talent for taking an idea that sounds completely absurd ("What if the X-Men were porn stars instead of superheroes?"), and making it work like nobody's business. And with this story, she wrote the mack daddy of all AUs.

*change camera angle*

In "XXX Mansion," Charles Xavier runs a movie studio that makes mutant porn flicks. His arch-rival in the biz is, of course, Magneto, who has bad, bad plans for Chuck's biggest star, Wolverine.

*switch partners*

This story will make you giggle like crazy in some parts, but it's not all about the silly. There's an honest-to-God plot that'll suck you in, and oh yeah, there's sex and sex and more sex. Sometimes in costumes!

Love is Just Another Four Letter Word by Elizabeth
Fate and love are the twin sides to the coin that rules the events of
Roswell. Here, Elizabeth takes those two words and sees what
they mean to the lost one - Tess. Raised with her "destiny" drilled into
her, (find Max, be with him, help him to do whatever it is your people need
you to do,) Tess has discovered that, instead of a fairy dream, it's utter
reality, and a reality that doesn't fit with what it is she'd like to have:
Isabel. For Tess, fate and love are the words that torture her the most.

Particularly good bits of this are her looks at Alex and Liz, and the
insight that she has into what they are, how she *would* like to feel
about them if she could, and how she *must* feel about them because she can't
live a normal life and she isn't free to have her own ideas. Most of all
though, the loving and adoring view she has of Isabel is beautifully and
poetically written.

03:14 pm "Hold Fast" by Russet McMillan (R)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: none

author's webpage: Russet J. McMillan

Why this must be read:
"Hold Fast" is notable for playing with two of the less-explained details of Immortality - the holy ground rule, and the mechanics of Quickenings. It begins as something of a dark mystery, when Duncan receives a grisly package containing Connor Macleod's blood-encrusted katana. And then Hunters are involved, and Joe is dragged into the line of fire.

McMillan merges the original movie's Immortal physics (remember some of the weird stuff with the stag that Ramirez showed Connor?) with the show's, which makes for some interesting possibilities. (Plus, there's a scene that's a joke about the second movie.) Two follow-up stories, "The Dark Side of the Mirror" and "Adam" continue the experimentation, though they aren't direct sequels.

05:06 pm Say the Word by Kylie Lee (PG)
Fandom: Enterprise
Pairing: Hoshi/Travis
Author Website: Kylie Lee's Slash Fan Fiction
Why this must be read:

It seems to me that this pairing should be far more prevalent than it is. Hoshi and Travis are the same rank, they're obviously friendly, canonically speaking, and neither of them get very much screen time. They just make sense within canon, and I think Kylie's done a great job with both their characters here. I also love the way she manages to inject Reed and Trip into the story in all their geeky, vaguely annoying glory. And the ending is just bittersweet enough to really give you a feel for what it must be like to be trapped on board a fishbowl like Enterprise.

Typically speaking, Kylie is a slash writer, but of all her fics this one is my favorite.
