Fandom: The West Wing Pairing: Amy/Donna Author on LJ: quasiradiantAuthor Website: quasiradianceWhy this must be read: Because it's hot and a little sad -- and how can you not love a fic like that? It's also got a nice non-linear structure that makes it all the more exciting to read. You'd thought, "Maybe Christmas isn't so bad after all," and your first drink had been eggnog and Goldschlager and the first swallow had tingled all
the

down.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: No pairing; characters : Methos, Joe and OFC Author on LJ: danawoodsAuthor Website:Broken SymmetryWhy this must be read: Highlander fandom has a whole genre that involves OFC or OMC. Some are good, some are total Mary Sue right up to the most beautiful, most lethal Immortal ever. Always old, always one of Methos, old, very old friend. Not here. Meet Calypso Wilde aka the Hacker, aka Pixie. Dana Woods created a well rounded, somewhat over the top character, who is entertaining, funny and who isn't the dreaded Mary Sue. The first story in the Pixie cycle (all are stand alone) is fun, uses the Watcher organization intelligently. Not something you see that often. The friendship or kinship between Adam and Caly is fun and not romantic. It's a fun ride. The ROG and the HackerComments?

Fandom: THE X-FILES Pairing: Mulder/Scully Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: none Why this must be read: Kel's fics are as tightly written as an episode of Seinfeld and as smart as a Connie Willis novel. Every detail matters, and even the most trivial of jokes end up being relevant to the story. Her infodumps are a thing of beauty, so organic that you don't realize you're reading an infodump until you know more about arteriovenous grafts than you ever thought possible. Her sense of humor will make you laugh out loud, and then the unexpected sweetness between Mulder and Scully will knock you out of your chair. Yes, she's just that good. This fic is a masterpiece of plot. Full of bizarre, yet real, characters, and a Mulder and Scully that actually laugh once and a while in between all the angst and drama. The other players frowned and looked at each other. They'd probably been playing together for years, Mulder thought. They acted as if they owned this court. Their shirts and shorts sported various logos: Polo, Lacoste, Adidas. Mulder came around the fence.
"Georgetown, huh?" one of the players asked Mulder, reading his shirt. "Play ball there?"
"No," said Mulder. "Kentucky." Kentucky was one of many places where Mulder had played basketball. He'd also played in North Carolina and Syracuse, and, for that matter, Georgetown too.Basketball Therapy

Fandom: KNIGHT RIDER Pairing: None Author on LJ: n/a Author Websites: Gryph's The Fanfic Vault and elfin productionsWhy this must be read:Remember how I said I'd be rec'ing more stories in the "Fire & Ice" AU? Well, this is one of 'em. In fact, this is The Big One. Third in the series, this is over 640Kb of the absolute BEST story in Knight Rider fandom! I'd even go so far as to say, considering the 48 or 49 fandoms in which I read, it is one of the top ten stories ever written, in any fandom. "Beyond Loyalty" is... well, it's... er, it's pretty much everything. But mainly some pretty damn powerful angst. It touches you in a way you won't ever forget, in a way the characters can't forget. The issues born of this story remain with the series throughout; though not without a sense of resolution, there are no easy cures. Once upon a time, I wrote a review of this story in which I claimed it was "an absolute MUST READ story!" and that "If you don't read this, you aren't a real Knight Rider fan". Now, years later, I'm sticking to what I said before. It's a collaboration by the two best authors in the fandom, how could it not be great? Easy -- because it's spectacular! Try this to wet your appetite: ( Excerpt from Part 1 )Link to Story: "Beyond Loyalty", in four parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Fandom: BLAKE'S 7 Pairing: Avon/Blake Author on LJ: kerr_avon (character LJ for RPG) Author Website:http://homepage.mac.com/shelobmarian/handmade/b7_index.htmlWhy this must be read: Plan 9 is a very funny, very sweet parody that works equally well read straight (as it were). It's an AU in which the crew, having abandoned the Liberator during battle, are captured by an Andromedan spaceship whose crew are suspicious about the propaganda used to encourage them to fight. They want a sample of humans to take home to testify - but since the trip is going to take several human lifetimes, the crew are expected to provide the next generation. What with one thing and another, this leads to some very hot sex between Avon and Blake. It's all the hotter because the story focuses on both the physical and emotional aspects. Great smut, an entertaining story, and a worryingly plausible explanation as to why the Andromedans invaded. Plus some very nice characterisation, including a very likable version of Tarrant being bullied unmercifully by Orac... It's a long one, at 59 pages in its original zine publication in Fire & Ice 4, but well worth it. It's now available online in the Hermit Library. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Author on LJ: veronicaluvAuthor Website: Veronica's StoriesWhy this story must be read:Brokenhearted is my all time favorite Sentinel slash story. It's the story I read when I want to remind myself why I loved this show. Veronica's characterizations are so accurate I can almost convince myself that this story might have been filmed a couple of years after The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg aired. Her writing is crisp and vivid and you'll be able to see every action play out in your mind. It’s sweet, yet not saccharine. Tender, yet doesn't feminize either character. The story alternates between Jim's and Blair's point of view. Veronica's own description of this story: Blair's a detective, Jim has a girlfriend. Everything's normal, so why isn't anyone happy?( A Little Sample )Go. Read. It'll be the perfect way to start the weekend. You won't be sorry. BrokenheartedBe sure to leave feedback for the author if you enjoyed the story.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya KuryakinAuthor on LJ: keelywolfeAuthor Website: http://www.ravenswing.com/~keelywolfe/Why this must be read: keelywolfe writes Napoleon and Illya as men. Men who have very difficult jobs, and who have been damaged by what they do, but who are far enough on the 'good' side of the scale to still be human, and likeable. And as men who need someone who understands them. In their line of work, that leaves very few options, the best of which is . . . each other. She also writes very cleanly, her prose a joy to read. And the sex is, well. I'll let you find that out for yourselves. The world they inhabit is perhaps a little darker than the one shown on-screen, but it's not all that far a step to get there. The only problem I have with her MFU fiction is that it's all TOO DAMNED SHORT. I wish I had an epic of hers that I could recommend, but failing that, here's one of her longer pieces, one which shows us both the damage, and the understanding. Here's a little sample to tempt you: ( Read more... ) Tell Me No Lies, by Keelywolfe

Fandom: THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS Pairing: Brian/Dom, some Mia/Vince Author on LJ: creedcascade and n/a Author Website: Open Air Insane AsylumWhy this must be read:It's like candy. Except in slash format. It has ansgt, hurt/comfort, pretty boys in love who don't realise that they're in love, and more hurt/comfort. It centres around Brian, who's just been released from prison, meeting up with Dom for the first time in Mexico. Some bad things (*really* bad things, in case that's not your speed) have happened to Brian while in prison, and Dom has to take care of him. With touching. Yeah. "I couldn't let them take you," Brian admitted. "I couldn't let you go back to prison. This... it was worth it."
"No it wasn't," Dom repeated, slowing the car and turning onto a smaller gravel road. "And now you're gonna let me take care of you."
"Why would you want to?" Brian asked. None of this was making any sense. Dom wasn't acting like he'd expected him to and Brian couldn't figure out how he was supposed to act.FreedomGilded Cage
