Fandom: ROSWELL
Pairing: Max/Kyle
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Debbie’s Fanfiction Collection
Why this must be read: A confrontation between Max and Kyle turns physical. Yes, that way and that way. First it’s about Liz, but then those homoerotic tendencies start to pop up and stuff gets real interesting. And, of course, alien fun is had.

A tease: Coming back into himself in a rush, Max suddenly felt that perhaps he was prying, seeing so much of Kyle's private thoughts, and he made a deliberate effort to close his mental channel down. "Don't." Kyle gasped.

08:16 am Five Billion Years Of Sunshine by Maayan
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Author: Maayan
Author website: The Janissary
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] _maayan
Pairing: Various including Teal'c/Daniel and Jack/Daniel
Rating: 1 to 6 are PG-13. 7 is NC17.
Why this must be read:

This story consists of seven different ways SG-1 could have destroyed the world and it is utterly brilliant. Maayan uses takes senarios from the show and where SG-1 save the day, in Five Billion Years of Sunshine, they don't. And the effects are catastrophic.

This is a very clever idea and each section is superbly written and told from the point of view of a different character, displaying Maayan's astonishing command of characterisation. At least two are told from the pov of original characters who are very different from each other and the canon characters.

Something I particularly like about this story is that although some of the sections are painful and heart-rending, one is touching and another funny and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer one very clever. This is a very intelligent story and thought-provoking as well.

Jack rubbed the grass under his knee, made a fist, pulled. 'Smart idea. We killed six billion people. Someone should get something out of it.' )

12:07 pm You’re Forgetting to Fly, Darling by Oro (PG)
Fandom: THE WEST WING
Pairing: CJ/Toby
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bananasrock
Why this must be read:

This is a lovely (almost stream-of-consciousness) piece from CJ's POV after Zoey's kidnapping. I really enjoy stories like this, where the loose structure of the story molds the way it makes you feel.

There isn’t a word or a name for someone whose daughter has been kidnapped except Josiah Bartlet, and it’s the last words she wants on her lips right now. Kidnapped. Unknown location. Possibly terrorists, but if you could refrain from asking, for the sake of those involved, please, and the press doesn’t care about the things she needs the press to care about.

10:52 pm Cliché, by Shay Sheridan PG-13
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred
Author Website: None

Why this must be read:

This short piece packs a lot of power. When I was flirting in a casual way with MFU, I read "Cliché" on [livejournal.com profile] muncle and that was it -- I was sucked right in. It's one of the first stories I recommend to people who are curious about MFU, because it gives a subtle but precise taste of all the things I love about the show.

If you were looking for action, you might say that very little happens in this story. It's just Napoleon sitting in a dungeon, holding his unconscious partner, and thinking about the routine of their lives. However, there's a lot going on under the surface here, and the *emotional* plot is a mini rollercoaster ride of sadness, fear, humor and sweetness.

Shay writes masterful flowing narrative passages that manage to turn the rather clunky elements of MFU into something that seems quite plausible. She creates a powerful result in just a few paragraphs.

11:24 pm Terms of Service by Wayward (PG)
Fandom: BABYLON 5
Pairing: Lyta, Sinclair (Valen)
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: A Scintilla of Truth
Why this must be read:

"Terms of Service" begins at the end of a simpler time, when the Vorlons were just mysterious and not freaky-deaky planetkillers. Kosh sends Lyta to go find someone called "Entil'zha" on Minbar, and she does.

Wayward dances through canon, touching on details from the death of all Narn telepaths to the destined sacrifice of an intrepid Ranger named Ericsson. This is a solid, stubborn Lyta who loves and obeys her Vorlon, and a questing, questioning Sinclair who's only just beginning to realize who he is.

Lyta had a little Vorlon. )

11:53 pm La Vie Boheme by TNL (NC-17)
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Joey/Kevin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tnl
Author Website: http://creativelymaladjusted.org/tnl
Why this must be read:

#1: This story is all about the HOT boysex. Lots of hot, lots of sex.

#2: This story is also all about the awesome Joey portrayal. I hardly ever like Joey. This Joey I love.

Non-spoilery summary: Joey is in New York during the Hiatus of Doom doing Rent. One night, he meets someone at a club. Hotness and angst ensue.
