02:36 am Someone To Watch Your Back by Belatrix Carter (NC17)
Fandom: BLAKES 7
Pairing: Blake/Avon
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2
Author Website: none, as far as I know
Why this must be read:

Well, it's my third rec, and so I thought 'time for the porn!' Heh.

This, as it happens, is absolutely top-standard porn. Blake and Avon have actually distinguishable characteristics and behaviour - no trying to figure out who did what just by references to hair colour here, thankfully. It's miles away from the kind of bad NC17 that makes you think 'just take it to a freaking porn site already'; it actually has a sense of context, and it's well written and everything. And all these things add up to making it about eighty seven billion times hotter than just about all the other smut out there, and I say this as someone who doesn't normally buy Avon as never having been with a man before Blake. It's good, people.

It's such good smut, in fact, that I feel no compuctions whatsoever about having recced the same author twice in such quick succession. (None, I tell you. Mwahahah!)

07:15 am Where We Have Been by Kest (PG)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT
Pairing: Dan/Rebecca (mentioned), Dan/Casey
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kestrelsan
Author Website: Fanfiction by Kest
Why this must be read:

This is a piece that sort of runs along side the end of the series,
which means Rebecca and possible LA jobs and general
not-quite-rightness at Sports Night. It hits one of my personal SN
fic favorite elements-- that Dan and Casey have slept together during
the show, but that it's not about buying each other flowers and
confessing love, it's more understated and suited to the
friendship relationship they have, in addition to the, you know, boy lovin'.

And as a bonus, there's amazing charcaterization in this one:

It was like a game to him, Casey thought--not a dick-you-around kind
of game, but one where only Danny knew the rules, and knew them so
well he couldn't even see that it was a game or think to play it any
other way.

11:40 am First Love and Other Miscommunications by Sandy Keene - PG-13
Fandom: POPSLASH - *NSLASH
Pairing: Justin/Lance
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy
Author Website: Suitable for Framing

Why this must be read:

This is one of those stories that's stayed with me for a long time. From Lance's POV. Lance is in love and Justin's stupid. It's the kind of AU that I love, in that we're completely enmeshed in this other world. And it feels real.

12:47 pm The Abdul Theory (Extended Behind the Scenes Two-for-the-Price-of-One Rhinestone Remix) by Torch - P
Fandom: POPSLASH - *NSLASH
Pairing: Chris/Lance, JC/Justin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] flambeau
Author Website: The Flambeau Factory: Boybands

Why this must be read:

JC's the sneakiest of them all. This JC very well could take over the world. And I think we'd like it. And Justin thinks he knows it all but is so adorably clueless, you just want to shrink him up and put him in your pocket. And poor little Joey is stuck in the middle but somehow you get the feeling that there's no place he'd rather be.

'You could go be naked with your boyfriend and stop buggin' us,' Justin said. 'You're like a really black pot throwing stones at a kettle in a glass house, here.' )

02:55 pm Paths for the Dead by James Walkswithwind (PG)
Fandom: LOTR
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zortified
Author Website: Gila's Cave
Why this must be read:

A fascinating look at the afterlife for the denizens of Middle Earth, a long-debated topic. What happens to hobbits, dwarves, and men after death? Professor Tolkien didn't tell us, but this is the best, and for me perhaps the happiest vision I've come across. Very Pippin-focused. Make sure you have a box of tissues handy.

He was expecting the green fields, and clear blue sky. )

04:04 pm Mapmakers (The Suicide Is Painless Remix) by Casira (R)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Sirius Black/Remus Lupin; Fred Weasley POV
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] casirafics
Author Website: Author page at Skyehawke
Why this must be read:

It’s a remix of Making Moony Laugh by Raven (a story I love to begin with, and highly recommend), and it had me crying - not just sniffling, but suppressing *sobs* at my desk when I prepped it for uploading during the remix.

This is the story of MWPP and how Fred Weasley discovers who made the Marauder's Map, and the story of Remus and Sirius, and Remus after the Veil and how he’s dealing (or not dealing) with Sirius’s death, and oh god, it *kills* me. Be prepared to have something light and happy on hand to read afterward. You’ll need it.

Quotage )

Beautiful, absolutely heartrending, in character and surehanded, this story encapsulates all the potential fanfiction (and remixing fanfiction) holds.

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: JC/Justin, Britney/Bobbie
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] beth666ann
Author Wesite:Unaware

Why thismust be read:

JC's brittle and tough and just a little mean and the perfect foil for Bobbie. Justin is needy and Britney is blank.

*Thanks to the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] stubbleglitter for pointing me to true title of the story.

09:50 pm Milk and Ash by pearl-o (R)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairings: Zoe/Wash implied; Zoe/Inara
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o
Author Website: but george you're a communist

Why this must be read:
This is a painfully lovely Zoe story, a tiny but powerful what-if that is completely credible as a possibility. Zoe is a force of nature, a fierce but loving warrior woman, and I love reading stories that capture her essence, even when it hurts. I haven't read much femslash in this pairing, but [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o makes these two mesh. And I like that it's written from Inara's POV, because that takes the reader one step away from Zoe's losses, and we see Zoe through the eyes of another survivor.
