01:26 am Assignment: Sandburg - TAE (PG)
Fandom: The Sentinel (Crossed with Star Trek: The Original Series)
Title: Assignment: Sandburg
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: Nope!
Author's Website: Serendipity Station
Why This Must Be Read:

Take one TAE, put her in a chat with some very nutty ladies (of which I was occasionally one) and get them to ask her for a ChatFic and...inevitably, you get pure genius. TAE, let it be said, has a great love of the Sentinel as a show but she also has a great love of characters portrayed by the late Robert Lansing and she writes them with the dry tone that was one of his trademarks. The lines she gives his characters one can immediately hear him saying...

Such as the case of Gary Seven who, along with his infamous partner in crime - a 'cat' named Isis - pays a visit to Chancellor Edwards and...well...

You have to read it to believe it.

Isis, let it be said, is a riot and, well, so is this story...

01:28 am X-Men Movieverse/Discworld (PG)
Title: Gingko by Pepper
Pairing: Logan/Rogue
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Space Princess
Why this must be read:

This is a double rec of sorts, as 'Gingko' is a sequel to [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's As I Lay Dying (X-Men Movieverse/Sandman), which is well worth reading in its own right. However, you don't need to read the original story in order to enjoy the sequel.

I'm a huge sucker for Pratchett's Death, and he's captured wonderfully well in this lovely little story, in which Logan finally shuffles off this mortal coil. The interaction between the two is highly entertaining, with a dry, understated humour that suits both characters.

While it helps to know both fandoms, it doesn't really matter if you're only familiar with one (or even neither); there's something here for everybody, and everything's pretty much self-explanatory.

A good, fun read, with just a touch of melancholy. Go and check it out.

01:50 am The Children's Hour - AzarSuerte (Strong R)
Fandom: Highlander (Crossed with Forever Knight)
Title: The Children's Hour
Pairing: Kenny/Divia
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] azarsuerte
Author's Website: Probable Impossibilities
Why This Must Be Read:

It's creepy.

It's really creepy.

Knowing Azar as I do, knowing the person she is, the fact that such an extremely creepy (did I mention creepy?) story could come from her? Shocks me to no end. This story is Highlander and Forever Knight at their extremes. It takes the concepts played with by both shows, namely children becoming Immortals (Kenny), and children becoming Vampires (Divia) and thus eventually becoming adults trapped in childlike bodies...and shows you exactly what that would mean when their minds are just ever so slightly twisted.

This story is creepy, man, and had me cringing in places. It is, definitely, a fic that's not for the faint of heart in possession of overly active imaginations though, as creeped as I was by it, it's an extremely good story. The characterizations are all very strong and Azar does not flinch when dealing with the extreme twistedness that is Divia, Kenny, and the concepts here in.

Did I mention it was creepy? *g*

Title: The Witness
Author: Michele Martin
Author on LJ: no
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:

This oldie-but-goodie is one of my favorite stories from *waaaaaaay* back, and that's because it accomplishes something nearly impossible: it's a crossover of *five* different shows that does just about equal justice to all five. (Plus there are sneaky little cameos by others as well. *g*) Other things I love about it is that you don't have to know all the shows to enjoy it--I'd seen maybe two episodes of The X-Files the first time I read it--and every now and then it has a quirky little moment of self-awareness that reminds you that you're reading a story without actually jarring you *out* of the story. And that undercurrent of self-awareness and just plain *fun* carries you through some rather implausible plot twists because there's the distinct sense that the author knows they're implausible but is enjoying herself so much that you just can't help but follow suit.

Is it the best crossover ever written? Probably not. But it sure is the most fun I've ever had reading one, and as I'm a die-hard crossover addict, that says a lot. *g*

10:21 am Stealing Harry by Sam Vimes (R, with kid-friendly chapters available)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
Author Website: Author page at Skyehawke
Why this must be read:

Okay, if you haven't read this, what rock have *you* been living under? huh? I was shocked it hadn't already been recced here. It's a great story for pulling people into the fandom, and well, that's the point here, isn't it?

So what if Lucius Malfoy got to Peter before Sirius did? And what if Sirius ended up owning a bookshop in Little Whinging (staffed, of course, by one Remus J. Lupin)? And one day, Sirius decided he'd had enough of the Dursleys mistreating Harry and decided to, well, steal him away?

This is that story.

Humor, action, romance, scary bad guys and heroes who try to stop them -- this fic has it all. A highly enjoyable read, and not just for Sirius/Remus shippers, but for anyone who enjoys AUs or the Potterverse in general.

Title: Out of the Frying Pan by Trianne
Pairing: Elijah/Viggo, Hannibal Lector
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] trianne
Author Website: A Shortcut To Trianne
Why this must be read: Elijah in Peril! Viggo in Denial! Dr Lector goes in search of stray lambs in the Wood psyche and has a delicious time of it. Suspense, romance, and a whole lot of tongue in cheek. No, not like that. Or that. Well, maybe like that.

06:00 pm That Old Yeh Shen Story by Tara O'Shea/LJC (PG-13)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairings: Simon/Kaylee, with Zoe/Wash and hints of Mal/Inara
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] taraljc
Author Website: LJC's Fanfiction Library

Why this must be read:
I rarely read het fics, although to me this story feels a bit more gen than shippy. The Simon/Kaylee romance isn't the point of the story; it's part of the whole, and just one more way for the reader to see how the crew of the Serenity has become a family. The job that the crew takes on adds a realistic darkness to the story that is canon. Mostly, the reason to read this story is the character development/interaction, which feels right enough to be an episode. I really miss the series, and this story helps alleviate that longing.
