Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Author on LJ: Not that I'm aware of. Author's Website: Mako's TankWhy this story must be read:Because it's fun and has a little bit of everything: toys for rich boys, Shakespeare, hot cocoa and snowmen carnage. Lex has a new snowmobile. Clark resents the Smallville Garden Society's annual "Snowmen of Smallville" contest. Lex quotes Shakespeare and charges into battle. With winter nipping at our heels, this story is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Be sure to send the author feedback if you enjoyed her story.

Fandom: STARTREK: VOYAGER Pairing: Chakotay/7 Author on LJ: ? Author Website: Djinn's LairWhy this must be read: Because it reminds us that pretty things can hurt. Spare and elegant writing lets us into 7's mind. And, you know what? She's maybe not so hard to understand after all. Alone

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1 Pairing: OT4, baby. Er, I mean, Daniel/Sam/Teal'c/Jack. Team true love. Author on LJ: astolatAuthor's webpage: IntimationsWhy this must be read:What makes this story so great is that it's not just a PWP (though there's certainly nothing wrong w/ a bit o' gratuitous smut), but really considers the prospect as a viable relationship. Sam is the POV focus, and in her careful, rational way, reasons through her doubts, weighing their personalities and loyalties and histories. The ties between them are too close for any of them to ever be satisfied by anyone else, and Shalott draws a geometric pattern of realizations and awareness. In the end it feels so, so right - for fans who love the team bond, this is the perfect culmination of eight years of chemistry, of friendship and their differences that click. A Lapse of Gravity

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Jayne/Simon Author on LJ: leadenskyAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read: I'm grinning just thinking about this story. It's Simon's birthday, and as we know, birthdays in the Whedon-verse rarely pass without some kind of hitch. hossgal does a fabulous job with the voices of the entire ensemble, and the entire tone of the story is so very Firefly-ish. Jayne and Simon's characterizations are especially noteworthy, and speaking as someone who isn't much of a ship-driven reader, the Jayne/Simon relationship rings true for me--every detail, every action, and every word is perfect for the characters. Even if you're not interested in the Jayne/Simon pairing, just read the first couple of paragraphs about Jayne cleaning his gun. It's a fabulous little trip into one of the saner sections of Jayne's mind. The Shirt Affair

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Duncan/Methos Author on LJ: lastregaAuthor Website: Sword's KissWhy this must be read: I shall be eternally grateful that the writers on HL left enough gaps in places to stir our imaginations and make us wonder. Missing scenes are a kink of mine - right up there with my kink for first time fics. This story does it for me on both counts. At the end of the episode One Minute to Midnight, one very angry MacLeod stomps off in a huff. Moments later, Methos also stomps off angrily. End of season. Next season, there's no sign of the ROG for several episodes, until one day, out of the blue, MacLeod comes home to find Methos sprawled(tm) across his bed, drinking a beer. Is there anything to hash out regarding their previous storyline? Nope. Mac doesn't even look too surprised. They proceed to dance around each other like an old married couple. This always left me with a big, "WTF?" until I read this fic. Esjay's Duncan and Methos are real, vital men, and so in character. I hear their voices in my head as I'm reading, and it sounds perfectly right. With After Midnight she fills in the blanks so perfectly, it makes BeeeJ one big, happy slasher. :) After Midnight

Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: None that I know of. Lisitza's online Man from U.N.C.L.E. fiction is collected at http://www.ravenslair.net/vault/lisitza/index2.htmWhy this must be read: Because it is part of a delicious set of vignettes based on a real book called "The Action Hero's Handbook". The title of each vignette is a situation and the action of the stories unfolds as quotes from the Handbook, followed by how Napoleon and Illya take action to solve it. The author warns us right up front that the series of vignettes is totally non-linear and some are AU, placing our agents a little farther on in the future, training new agents, but it doesn't matter. While Lisitza uses many of the fanon clichés, she does it deftly and her Illya and Napoleon are comfortably themselves. They banter and tease each other, are competent and serious spies, and are totally enjoyable as they demonstrate their various skills on others -- and on each other. I'm recc'ing my current favorite, but that changes with my mood and with 13 vignettes in the set, there's one for every mood! Fandom:THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing:Bodie/Doyle Author on LJ:Unknown Author Website: Unknown Why this must be read:This is a deathfic.Cowley, not Bodie and Doyle. In fact it's suicide. I'm not giving too much away as it is obvious from the first paragraph. Sunshine After Rain features an older, settled and together Bodie and Doyle who have left CI5, but are still in the 'business' as it were. Elspeth effectively shows the fallout from Cowley's suicide, how it affects Bodie and Doyle, both as a couple and individually. The emotions they go through feel real. Bodie and Doyle are apart for a lot of the story, but they call each other frequently and the conversations between them are so in character.Cowley's suicide also feels in character with the context she gives to it.A hard thing to pull off. Both Bodie and Doyle are how I imagine they would be. Older and wiser, but still recognisable. The sex is lovely too. An excellent story with a view on older lads I can believe in. Fandom: Angel Pairing: Wes/Angel Author's URL: The Brat QueenAuthor's LJ: thebratqueenWhy this MUST be read:There are times that I want to read something long, drawn out and plotty. There are times I want to read something sexy. Sometimes, I just want to read something short that puts a smile on my face. This falls in that last category. Wes and Angel are both entirely in character, and their verbal back-and-forth is entirely true to character. A Bad Day

Fandom: Angel Pairing: Angel/Nina (but it's not central to the story) Author's Website: none Author's LJ: waysofseeingWhy this MUST be read:It's my pleasure to take this opportunity to rec a story that I think few people here have read. I know there's a virtual season of Angel going on elsewhere, but waysofseeing's season 6 opening script was the first one I ever saw. I was impressed, then, and I continue to like it enormously. He brings in Nina, Gwen, and a few other well-loved Whedonverse characters, and starts what looks like one hell of a story arc for the 6th season. It doesn't feel like I'm reading fanfic - it feels like someone leaked the season opener script for the season 6 that never was. Go read it, and tell him he needs to write more.
