02:48 am “The Adventure of the Honeymoon Suite” by Lyrastar (PG-13)
Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES
Pairing: Watson/Mary
Author on LJ: watergal
Author Website: Lyra’s Variations
Why this must be read:

Yes, it’s Canonical het! (Well, presumably. You’ll see what I mean.) It’s such a relief to find an author who can write Mary without making her a shrew or a martyr. Very short and very funny.

Note: Lyrastar has written a drabble for each of the sixty stories in the Canon. They’re available at her journal and cox_and_co, and many of them are brilliant.

07:16 am Brand New Normal by Punk (Rating R)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun
Author's Website: The Underground | Punk Maneuverability
Why this story must be read:

As the author says: Normal is relative.

I adore this Clark's relationship with mother. When I think of Clark and Martha, this is how I see them interacting. Teasing. Loving. Normal.

Clark is still having problems with stopping without falling when using his superspeed, and can't quite get the hang of walking when he's using his x-ray vision. I love the idea of Clark practicing his new powers and thinking he looks dorky doing it.

I also love the semi-honesty in his relationship with Lex (which leads to some good sex). No, Clark doesn't tell Lex he's an alien, he just tells Lex about his feelings. This story makes me think about could have beens.

This story is a perfect Sunday afternoon read.

Be sure to send the author feedback if you enjoyed her story.

10:18 am Neverland by Gene (NC17)
Fandom: QAF US
Pairing: Brian/Michael, minor Ted/Blake.

Why this must be read: I used to be a Brian/Michael shipper before Ben came into the picture. I had a notion that if ever Brian actually did grow up and grew some balls, that he would realize that Michael was the one for him. It's not a very popular idea but I was still romaticizing Brian then.

One of the reasons why I liked this piece of fiction is that it draws the link between Brian and Peter Pan (hence the title). When I was reading it, I was so surprised that nobody has thought of it then. And it was very refreshing to see the the Peter/Wendy dynamic mirror the Brian/Michael relationship.

I'm not a B/M shipper anymore but this is still worth a read.

Neverland

P.S. It also has a sequel, Wasteland, but in my opinion, it's not quite as good as the first one.

12:22 pm Life Is But A Dream by Brix (R)
Fandom: ALIAS
Pairing: Sydney/Sark
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shadesofbrixton
Author's Website: Alias Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

As a fan of AU stories, I was pleased to find one in this fandom that is so well done. After trying to deal with the trauma of her missing two years, Sydney wakes up to find herself in a completely different world. A world where, among other things, she is not a spy.

But my favorite things in this story is the relationship between Sydney and Sark. While we'd all like to see him redeemed, the truth is that in canon, Sark is a bit of a sociopath and may be past the point of change. With AU as a device, we can get a glimpse of a Sark that is functional and normal and completely throwing Sydney out of whack. It's fascinating to watch her struggle to reconcile the Sark in this world to the cold, hard Sark she knows.

03:23 pm Silence by Jane Carnall (PG-13)
Fandom:BLAKES7
Pairing:Avon/Vila
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] janecarnall
Author's Website: http://hjc.akicif.net
Why this must be read:

A short story like a sad sestina about the multiple meanings of "Silence," and a meditation on "Horizon" and "Pressure Point." It takes a while, but eventually Avon realizes that the breakdown of his expedient "arrangement" with Vila is not merely mostly his fault but mostly his loss.
