Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Author on LJ: Not that I can find Author Website: Twin Dolphin ProductionsWhy this must be read: I don’t usually have favourites, but I have to admit this has to be my favourite novel-length fic. It’s also the longest I’ve read, I think. “Eternity: A Promise of Forever” is the first part of a two part story, and they are both extremely well-written. I was gutted and hollowed out during the prologue and first chapter, and I think I even cried the first time I read it. I hate death stories, but the way Kaye goes beyond the grave and brings Starsky back is fantastic. We’re never really told how it all works, but real life’s never that neat anyway, right? And, as other-worldly as this is, it feels so real it’s unbelievable. I was dragged in from the start, and left kicking and screaming when the real world demanded my attention again. The characters are so well put together that I swear I could see them right in front of me, and the way it (and the case) all unfolds is careful yet seamless, and particularly clever with a few twists and turns to keep you guessing. “Eternity: A Promise of Forever” has angst, humour and, most importantly, love. It doesn't add much to established canon, but it articulates some of the same stuff dealt with on the show in a delightfully Sorkin-y way, and I can think of many worse things a fic could do. :) I thoroughly recommend this to anyone who fancies squeeing over Jed and Leo - or just wants a nice dip in the West Wing world, actually. Hiya, I'm snowgrouse and I'll be your Blake's 7 driver for the month. *revs up the engine* I must say it's great to be back!:) In celebration of B7 being reactivated as a major fandom on here, my first rec will be something light and fluffy and wonderfully smutty. Fandom: BLAKE'S 7 Pairing: All of the S4 Scorpio crew in various combinations Author on LJ: Don't know Author Website: Susannah Shepherd's Fiction Collection Why this must be read: Like I said, this piece is wonderful, fluffy, smutty fun. And well-written too, which isn't easy when you're doing orgy fic of all things! In the story, Vila installs a camera in Dorian's bedroom as he suspects Soolin and Dayna are having an affair, and things progress from there. I know the theme sounds terribly dodgy, but here it's handled with refreshing humour--you can't stop grinning while reading this. It's a rare instance of orgy fic that *works*. All the characteristic dry wit of the B7 crew is to be found in the dialogue, coupled with hilarious fumbling and smut. The girls are clever and wicked, the guys confused and silly in their lust, whilst everyone stays firmly in character. And oh, did I mention it was as hot as hell, too?:) This one has got f/f, het, m/m, the works. There's something for everyone here--good characterisation, good smut, good belly laughs. I'm Sithdragn, and I'm driving the van for MFU for the month of December. I can't say there's a theme to the stories I'll be rec'ing, because I'm basically a characterization slut. I'll read anything -h/c, pwp, angst, humor, even some romance- as long as the characters are recognizable to me as the characters I see on the screen. Yadda yadda, enough about me, on to the spies. Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon/Illya Author on LJ: cousinnatAuthor Website: n/a Why this must be read: One thing every law enforcement fandom has in common is an appreciation for holsters. The way a holster accentuates muscle and bone, the masculine smell of deadly weapon wrapped in leather. It's a universal lust love. If we notice it, it makes sense that the characters in our fandoms would notice it, right? In Man With a Gun, Napoleon definitely notices. And appreciates. And who can blame him?Illya would sometimes come out of the bathroom, fresh from a shower, and slip that holster on over his bare skin. I would grin from ear to ear and he would take a wide stance like a gunslinger at a showdown, his hands loose at his sides. "Wipe that smile off your face, Solo," he would say. Or, "I knew you were Thrush from the first day I met you." Or, "Stick 'em up, or whatever you'd care to stick up."Man With a Gun isn't about poetic verse or plot; it's a short romp into sexy, insightful and playful.
