Why this must be read:

As far as I can tell, this is one of the very first "John goes to Earth" stories out there. It's long, plotty, and filled with the FS characters we know and original characters that manage to steer clear of the Mary Sue/Marty Stu label that is so feared.

My favorite thing about this story is how the characters are used. This is about adjustment and adapation. About learning and re-learning people you thought long gone and the new arrivals you bring with them. That, I think, is the strength of this story. Death2PrimeChick shows us those growing pains, those adjustments in fine form. It's not only John who must adjust, but the daughter he brings. On the other side, John's father as well as most of the Earth's inhabitants must adjust to a half human child and a man who's lived among aliens.

This may sound a bit bland, but it's not. It's interesting and, even with the amount of Earth fics around now, it's still original in it's ideas and plot.

06:23 am In My Line of Work 2, by Leareth (PG - 13)
Fandom : CLAMP – SERIES: X/TOKYO BABYLON
Pairing : Seishirou/Subaru
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] inkpawprints
Author Website: Behold, the Void
Why this must be read:

In My Line of Work 2 is the sequel to In My Line of Work 1 which I recced earlier (you know I had to rec them both).

In My Line of Work 2 starts with the strange death of a controversial political figure. The investigation of this death leads the detectives to a certain handsome and dangerous man who made an appearance in In My Line of Work 1.

This fic is just as wonderful as the first, if not even better. We get a more extended view of the dark sexual tension between Subaru and Seishirou, yet it is still subtle and quietly done, just like in the manga.

The way Leareth tackles Seishirou and Subarau’s relationship is my favorite part of these fics. What she leaves unsaid makes the whole even sexier.

There are several areas in this fic that make me sigh with the singular pleasure that comes from reading a perfectly executed scene. There is definitely something to be said for a fic with no lemon scenes that none the less is still sexier than most fics with explicit sex.

Here is a little snipit from the POV of Detective Kobayashi )

Why this must be read:

This story features a six year old Pippin and does a lovely job of capturing the difficulties and excitment of life at that age. It is cute and sweet, but not saccharine, and includes wonderful details of everyday hobbit life.

09:35 pm The Door by Batela (NC-17)
Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder / Scully / Skinner / Other
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Walter Skinner’s Journal
Why this must be read:
“The Door” is a great story – it works both as a case-file and as a relationship story. It has a pre-existing relationship between Skinner, Mulder, and Scully, which is always nice to see after so many first-time stories (but don’t worry, if you want to know how this one started check out the Morning Glow series which has a nice stranded-in-a-cold-cabin beginning for the threesome).

“The Door” puts Mulder and Scully out in the field with Skinner on a remedial field course for wayward agents – Mulder and Scully, for once, are there as examples of how to behave. They manage to stumble right into an X-File when the group gets kidnapped, and strange things start to happen...

The story includes an original female character who’s a bit of a Mary Sue (knows a bit too much about various topics convenient to the plot), but she’s likeable and not too perfect (and balances out the threesome nicely). The anthropological details and tidbits of the lost culture they stumble across create a backdrop that seems authentic, and the story feels gentle and humorous while also being fast-paced...and the hot sex scenes don’t hurt a bit, either.
