Severus rolled his eyes, rather disappointed in Avery. "He does not," he said tiredly, and waited for Avery to laugh at him anyway.

Avery didn't laugh, though. He only glanced at Severus curiously, and had his face been mocking or mean, Severus wouldn't have listened to another word he said. But the look that Avery gave him was almost pitying. It said, without the childish words: Does so.

This story is cute and so much fun. The atmosphere and character interaction reminds me of the first few books of Tokyo Babylon.

In a fandom full of so much angst this fic manages to capture the original light and fun feeling that is also part of Tokyo Babylon manga. The banter, jokes and dialog are so perfect and in character that I smiled the whole way through.

If someone is looking for a nice place to start in the Tokyo Babylon fandom, and does not want to be spoiled for the ending, then this is the story for them!

Why this must be read:

Because it has a lovely Snape, an amusing Hagrid, and is both believable and sweet. It's more like preslash, but subtly done.

It was like a different world in here. Warm and close and... singed--well--that was one thing Hagrid's hut did have in common with his dungeons. The stench of exploded potions and charred cauldrons were so familiar to Snape by now that the air here, thickened with dragon-induced smoke, didn't even bother him.

'Why did ye say ye were leavin' before, Pr'fessor?' Hagrid asked as he poured them both cups of what Snape knew, from past experience, to be three parts alcohol and one part tea.

'I thought...' And here Snape suddenly felt uncomfortable again, and he reached into his robe pocket to clutch his little vial of mugwump as though it were a charm against blushing. 'I thought that you had company.'

And why the ruddy hell was he sounding diffident? Snapes don't sound diffident. No Snape, not even his unassuming, Muggle-marrying Uncle Hephaestus, had ever sounded diffident.

Snape managed to dredge up an appropriate sneer.

It works so beautifully: two broken men slowly healing. Very slowly.

He didn't really know why he was in hospital. He didn't know why all the people who said they were there to help snickered behind their hands, first when they thought he wasn't looking, then any time they pleased. He didn't know why the pity and admiration with which he was met when he was first admitted changed, abruptly, to disdain and contempt.

Then again, since he didn't know who he was or who he'd been, he wasn't at all surprised he didn't know anything else.

The man who'd been told he was a wizard named Gilderoy Lockhart stared out the window of the recuperative wing of the ancient hospital and wondered if he would ever remember anything at all. It was all well and good to be told who he was by a bunch of people he didn't know. They'd given him books, then snatched them away a few days later, sneering at him about the contents being a load of crap -- well, one doctor had been kinder and called them works of fiction -- and saying they wouldn't help him rediscover himself. He'd looked at the hard face of the nurse who'd fluttered over him only the day before and wondered what he'd done to disappoint her. Whatever it had been, he didn't remember it.

Why this must be read: I love heist stories, it's one of the reasons I love Alias. This is a great heist fic and would work as a wonderful episode. I mean they have gone to Vegas already. This isn't a crossover but rather uses the premise of Ocean's 11 and tweaks it for Alias. I haven't had so much fun reading a story in a long time.

Why this must be read:
So, after the angst of the last story, I wanted to rec a happier story. The tendency has been to set dS stories in Chicago or Canada, but this one has a refreshing change of location. The exotic setting (Italy) feels right to me and makes me recall a trip I made to Italy about 14 years ago. I also chose this story because long-term relationship fic is fairly rare for this pairing, and when one does find it, it often is too schmoopy for Ray/Ray. Hth conquers the task of keeping the snark in this relationship while balancing it with domestic happiness. I get a warm, contented feeling after reading this story, and I have it bookmarked for future comfort reads.

Why this must be read:
This series of stories has to qualify as one of the most bizarre in X-Files fandom, and given the unusual events that qualify as canon in the TV series, that’s saying a lot! The author describes “Life from the Ashes” as an “Alternative Universe scifi-fantasy story”. It begins shortly after the consortium has been exposed and aliens release a deadly virus on Earth, which begins to kill off all the women and mutate the men. And you’ll never believe where it goes from there!

The series could be subtitled “Everyone wants Mulder”. For those who enjoy Mulder in various degrees of jeopardy, being rescued over and over again, this is the series for you. But as outlandish as the premise and description may sound, the story is solid – well-written and entertaining, with lots of hot sex, great original characters and locations. It’s just a very fun, enjoyable read. Just suspend your disbelief, and look forward to the end of the series where Mulder, Skinner, and Krycek are living a very comfortable existence together with more children than you’d want to imagine.

The series, which is long and satisfying, takes place in a series of five books plus a prequel. Read them in order, and make sure you don’t have any pressing work to do – once you get involved in the story you won’t want to stop for the days / weeks it’ll take you to read the whole series!
