A better question to answer than why this must be read is
how in the hell has this not been recced on
crack_van yet??? Well, lucky me, I get to be the one to rec it.
This is the third of my favorite fanfics of all time. In fact, I love it so much, when
svmadelyn asked me what my favorite fics were for a game she was planning for
slumberparty04, this was the one I said. Never mind the fact that I was gullible enough to believe it was actually for a game. She and
seperis banded together with
cjandre to bind Love for Sale into a book for me, which I have since mailed to Lenore to autograph and send back because I fangirled her so embarrassingly at
slumberparty04. But enough about that. Let's get to the story.
It's AU in that Lex has never been to Smallville, but it takes place primarily after S2. Clark has run away from home to Metropolis on Red!K, and decides to make some money by becoming a hooker. He's bought by Lex, and Pretty Woman, but with better porn and angst and truly intriguing plot and characters, ensues.
The story could probably be best summed up by the abject embarrassment it has caused both myself and the author. Such as the time Lenore was at work and someone was curious about her writing notebook, where she was making notes for Love for Sale, and she fought that thing out of her coworker's hands like it was her life on the line.
And the time I was reading it in Chinatown in NYC while waiting for my bus to arrive and take me back home, and finally some hippie poked me and said, "Hey, the bus is here. You must be pretty engrossed in that book. What's it about?" I may have blurted something about hookers. I don't really remember.
And that same day when I arrived at work, and when pulling my purse out of my backpack, the book, tangled in the strap, went flying and landed with a thwap on the floor. My boss, who reads everything that words on it, dove for it and asked, "What's this?" "Nothing!" I squeaked, as I yanked it out of her hands, stuffed it into my purse and scurried out of the store to get some lunch. The whole time I was thinking, "That was close."
And then there was the week I was petrified because I'd accidentally left the book in a friend's car. Such is the embarrassment caused by carrying around a book this fucking hot about hot characters from a tv show having hot gay sex every few paragraphs. But in the end, it is worth all embarrassment, because it is, in my not so humble opinion as this month's Smallville Crack Van Driver, my favorite story in all of fandom.
So go! Read! Now! You'll so regret it if you don't.
It's over
here, and be sure to leave Lenore some feedback!
