12:05 am To Rise Above by Jb (PG)
Hello all! I'm [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I'll be driving the Stargate SG-1 van for you in February. I tend to read a wide variety of fics, although I do have some authors that I read repeatedly. So for my first rec, I give you a Daniel-centric fic with Jack and Daniel friendship overtones.

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: The Tablet

Why this must be read: The events in this story take place shortly after Beast of Burden. Daniel is struggling with his actions with Chaka and the consequences of them, coming to terms with the fact that things don't always work out the way he plans. Of course, this is a common problem for Daniel... honestly believing that nothing he tries will ever work out.

When Jack tries to talk to Daniel about the incident, he learns that Daniel has recently obtained his pilot's license and the resulting day trip turns into more than Daniel bargained for as far as lessons that can be learned.

I love that Jb is able to write Daniel in situations such as these. He's able to grasp the turmoil that goes on inside the character and captures it wonderfully on paper. Jb also expresses the friendship between Jack and Daniel. Jack tries to offer 'help' to his friend in really the only way Jack can.

12:19 am One for the Road, by Kat Allison (R)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Methos/Duncan
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] katallison
Author Website: http://www.kat.mrks.org/

Why this must be read:
Methos leaves; it's canon, it's fanon, and the likelihood that he'll ultimately pick up and leave Duncan is one of the bittersweet tristes topiques we love to chew on.

This is the best portrait of Methos leaving I've read. It may be my favorite depiction of Methos, period. Try a taste )

12:29 pm the One Thing Or Another series by Eleanor K. (NC-17)
I'm d, and I'll be your Firefly dealer for the month of February. I like River when she's with Kaylee and Simon when he's with anyone else and angst in general, so I really hope that that's what you like too.

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Kaylee/River
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] emungere
Author Website: Consequence Free

Why this must be read:

For real, I hate this part of the assignment. Because I like it. Isn't that enough? And okay, also because Kaylee, and River, and Kaylee and River together. Objects In Space is generally seen as the point of no return for Simon and River, the premature end of the series and the freefall into something new. Eli nails River's clarity/confusion and the shimmer of change like it's no trouble at all.

Also, Kaylee and River. Together.

Kaylee likes boys. Hard, flat chests and muscled shoulders and hairy legs, stubble scraping against her cheek. She likes the way they smell, the way they surround her, the way she can take them in and make them gasp and make them hers.

She likes boys. So she can't figure out what she's doing with River.

09:19 pm Defense Mechanisms by cosmic (PG)
Fandom: ALIAS
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cosmic
Author's Website: None listed
Pairing: Will/Lauren
Why this story must be read: Last year when I requested this pairing for a ficathon, I was pleased to get such a lovely, well-written story. This might be the oddest of odd pairing, but [livejournal.com profile] cosmic made it work. She has an excellent handle on Will's voice here and after seeing Season 3, an eerie bit of foreshadowing can be creeping around the edges.

Defense Mechanisms

Hi, I'm Siryn and I'll be driving the getaway car for Alias this month. Look for a bit of everything, with a nice dose of angst for good measure

11:30 pm The Sun From Both Sides by Veronica (NC-17)
Hi, I'm Rhiannon-Jehane, and I'll be your [livejournal.com profile] crack_van driver for The Sentinel this month.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] veronicaluv
Author’s website: Aithine.org

Why this must be read:

I’m a sucker for stories where the guys confess their feelings and then are promptly separated. In The Sun From Both Sides, a rookie who’d gone to the academy with Blair is killed in the line of duty. This prompts Blair to confess to Jim the feelings he's been quietly harboring, but it also brings up some old, unresolved issues between them. The separation comes when Blair decides that the best thing for both of them is for him to move out, promising to come home when he knows Jim truly trusts him. And since Jim has a teensy little problem when it comes to trust, it may be a long wait before Blair is back at the loft… and maybe Jim isn't the only one with issues.

The Sun From Both Sides

There's also a short epilogue/companion piece from Simon’s point of view, called Penumbra.
