02:10 pm Web of Destruction, by Angela Field (PG)
Fandom: HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS
Author Website: Heroes' Path
Why this must be read:

Angela Field's Argonauts are a bunch of appealingly rowdy young men, having the kind of adventures that the Young Hercules crew only wished they had the budget to film.

Angela excels at getting Iolaus into trouble, and this story is one of her best, foreshadowing Iolaus' later troubles in the episode Web of Desire and bringing tons of hurt/comfort, angst and adventure.

Warning: if you're an arachnophobic, you might want to skip this one. Or carry a really big shoe.

Fandom: HORATIO HORNBLOWER
Pairing: The Earl of Edrington/Archie Kennedy

Author Website:The Widgeteria
Why this must be read:

Pretense is set in the A&E adaptation movieverse and focuses on the relationship between Archie Kennedy and the Earl of Edrington aka Major Edrington. The title says it all. Both men desiring what neither can have. Their couplings are drenched with bitterness and the need to possess outside their grasp.

Harsh, hot, but never crude.

Why this must be read:

This is a short, sharp and exquisitely written story. In just under 3000 words, Kate Orman shows us another side of Servalan and one reason, at least, why her personal staff might remain loyal to her. The story is told from the point of view of Servalan's personal tailor Sayl, and describes the aftermath of a visit by Servalan to a Federation colony and the attempt on her life that takes place there. Kate's minimalist style is a pleasure to read: every word in this story has been polished until it shines like a diamond. Make time to read it - you won't be disappointed.

Why this must be read:

It was one of the first Sweet Revenge stories where they got together that I read and out of all of them, this one always seemed so sweet and it fit so well with the series and how things would have continued.

Expert: -

"Somehow I always leave a party leaning on your arm," Starsky said through chattering teeth, climbing slowly out of bed. Hutch smiled at the memory of countless parties where they'd staggered home, four sheets to the wind, and as close as a pair of twins.

"When something works, why change it?" Hutch joked, cradling Starsky close. They were both safe, there was no need to worry, but Hutch couldn't stop the fears that crept back in. Bad things happened to Starsky, and he had to be protected against assault from all sides. It was nothing more than any man would do for his love.

Why this must be read:

My Excuse: here in Australia it’s just past the Winter Solstice. It’s ranging 6 – 16 degrees C in the City, and there’s snow on the Blue Mountains (Yah, poor me). That’s about as cold as it gets in NSW unless you go inland or south to the Snowies. Therefore I feel free to rec fics that have a winter/Christmas theme.

OK, Ringing in the Changes needs no excuse. It’s one of the best ever Pros fics in it’s own right, and candidate for head of the class in the 21st century writing school. Charting the relationship between Bodie and Doyle it covers the years from 1975 until 1983, starting 19 December and finishing 27 December, leaping a year and a day each chapter. I gave it to a friend who gave it to a non-slasher fan in her office, who loved it ("You realise there's sex in it?" “oh, that’s just the boys, it’s OK”). Solid story, realistic plotting. Great sex. Just enough angst. Finely tuned relationship dynamics.

Just go read.
