Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon (aka Nightwing/Oracle), although romance is not the focus of the story Author on LJ: smittywingAuthor Website: SmittyworldWhy this must be read:Because once you've read this story, you'll be dead from cute and you'll like it. This is a story about what makes a family, even in the mixed-up world inhabited by superheroes, and I can't recommend it enough. The characters are spot-on perfect and the story mixes humor, drama, and love in equal doses. It's the first story in a fabulous series known as the Potatoverse (just trust me, 'kay?), which includes stories by smittywing, chicago_h, kiarda, and others. Collect 'em all! (My favorite is the currently unfinished but still fabulous "The Story of Dinah and Bruce." Read it and then beg Smitty to finish it.) Dick Grayson (Robin I and subsequently Nightwing) is a cop in the town of Bludhaven during the daytime and he encounters a young boy who's lost his entire family. And, well, anybody who knows Dick knows what happens next. But adopting a kid isn't easy for anyone, let alone two superhero-types. ( Read an excerpt )Coming Home

Fandom: Crossing Jordan Pairing: Withheld to mess with your head. Author: Julian Lee Author Website: The Thwarted InvasionAuthor on LJ: julianleeWhy this must be read:Julian Lee is one of my absolutely favorite authors. She never fails to find the funny when there is funny to find. And “Messin’ with the Kid” just brings the funny like nothing else in the “Crossing Jordan” fandom. This story picks up directly after *the* slashiest moment in “Crossing Jordan” history. Woody, after making a comment about how cute Maguire is, ended up getting backed against the wall and hit on by our dear Dr. Nigel [he of the ‘most probably gay’ in canon]. From there the story builds outwards and Woody’s day just gets weirder and weirder. To say anything else would totally ruin the fun that is following this story though all its twists, loops, and moments of utter “Poor, Woody!” followed by uncontrollable laughter. I give fair warning here: Do not eat or drink while reading this fic. Soda up the nose hurts. And that’s a note of experience. Messin' with the KidHi, I'm Perpetual Motion. You might remember me from such recs as CSI reccer for August 2004.

Hi, I'm Cathy. Last time I was given the keys to the van, I was reccing Battlestar Galactica. This time, I'll be directing you towards some seriously good Lotrips. I'm pretty much an Orlijah shipper, so that's what you can expect from me. Now, on to the recs... Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Elijah Wood/Orlando Bloom Author on LJ: myheadgamesAuthor Website: myheadgames lotr rpsWhy this must be read: This time around, I decided to start with something short and happy. I adore a good drabble and this is one of my favourites; myheadgames hits the perfect balance between whimsy, humour and sweetness. for the love of stairs and giraffes

Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Pairing: Not the point (although there's messianic Xander/Faith) Author on LJ: liz_marcsAuthor Website: None; Most-to-All Fics Archived in her LJ MemoriesWhy this must be read:A unit of Watcher's Council operatives from the far future arrive in 2003 Cleveland to acquire an artifact that allows them to fight an evil plaguing them in their own time. Stumbling onto the Scoobies they are awed to find themselves in the presence of the highly revered legends ...Xander Harris? ...and Faith? "Living History" considers the themes hero worship, fate, and free will. It also buckles its swash through a mystery/action plot involving a snarky diary that won't open to just anybody and a quest for a grail. Lizbeth, as always, deftly combines action, exposition, and character development. There's never a dull moment and there's never a moment that doesn't speak volumes of at least one character. Of special note in this fic is the fact that Lizbeth creates at least five original, fresh, likable characters who are central to the story but never overpower the original ensemble (who all get their moment to shine, something didn't happen in the later seasons of the series). The Good OC is a rarity in fic, and five of them at once is practically unheard of. Living History

Hello! I'm riverlight, and I'll be your friendly neighborhood driver around The O.C. this month. I'm pretty new to fandom, but hey, I figure this works out well for you all--it means I've read a ton of fic lately. So, without further ado, my first rec: Fandom: THE O.C. Pairing: Seth/Ryan; also, if you read the story she links to, Seth/Seth (go with it) Author on LJ: torchthisnow, a.k.a clem k. Author Website: None that I know of-- Why this must be read:This is, admittedly, not your normal O.C. fic. Sure, there's plenty of hot boysex and plenty of snark. But there's also time travelling. I know, I know. Crazy, right? But just go with it. The ending will just blow you away, in that you'll-still-be-thinking-about-this-tomorrow kind of way. ( Seth jumps time less often, which he's okay with. It happens now and then, though, which is why he finds himself in his parents' kitchen on a sunny September morning in 2002. ) missdeviant wrote what I suppose could be called a prequel to this, and I had a hard time deciding which story to rec, because they're both brilliant, but since clem provided a link to the former at the top of her story you can (and should) read both. Seth is 15, and 26
