Why this must be read: One of the things I love about vegetariansushi's writing is how spare it feels, while still somehow managing to pack in so much detail. "Fall" is a perfect example, showing us the way Orlando experiences the world, and written with a kind of breathless grace.

Why this must be read: I watched the series finale tonight, and thought I'd post this because this has been a major issue for some factions of the fandom. I've never been one who was vehemently anti B/M though I have never thought it would work in the long run either. Much angsting has gone on about the subject, but I'd like to think if it happened, it would have happened like this. Julad has truly captured the flavor of the characters, and a sense of the show. It's a pre forth season piece according to her author's notes, and that feels dead on in the levels of maturity the characters show. It's a funny, sweet, lighthearted look at what might have been.

Why this must be read:

Novel length works can be tricky - maintaining a complicated plot and keeping a handle on character motivation becomes more difficult the longer a fic gets, and even the professionals who get paid to write the official tie-ins tend to mess it up.

Fortunately, yahtzee63 doesn't drop anything with this fic. It goes AU after the third season, and the author manages to tie all the mythology and character arcs together into a resolution more satisfying than the show's fourth season.

All of the pairings and character relationships were handled well, but it was the father and daughter interaction between Jack and Sydney that really blew me away. Go read it; I'm sure you won't be dissappointed.

Why this must be read:

It's damn funny, that's why! Oh man, this story brightened my day when I was very very sad, and I would have loved it just for that. But more than that, it's a hilarious take on the Gotham crowd, both heroes and villains. You'll meet everyone, from poor beleagured Catman to the powerful (and quite amused) Jason Blood. There's magic, there's love, there's cats, there's catfights in the Iceberg Lounge...

In this story, Catwoman's tired of the tabloids making up weird stories about her, not to mention the way the regular papers lie. So she comes up with a clever way to set the world straight: a one-woman show.

No, I'm not kidding.

This is just the first in an incredibly long series, and they're incredibly addictive. Bet ya can't read just one.

Why this must be read:

I have to admit I'm a sucker for these stories. They're an interesting challenge, 5 AUs in one go, and this story is no exception. julianlee has a really solid grasp on Danny's character, and it's really nice to see him fleshed out a bit more. Make sure to read the subject lines of each part because they really tie the stories together.

Why this must be read: She finally finished it!!! It's got everything... grown up Kiko and Molly, Post-Sweet Revenge PI's Starsky and Hutch, and a shared household. It seems Kiko's fallen in love, and he's looking to Starsky and Hutch for guidance. Not because they're womanizers (who've never really gotten to keep any girl they've been with) and he wants some pointers. Noooo. Kiko's in love with a guy, and he thinks S&H will understand and share their insight because he thinks they're together. Except they're not, not really, not yet, but Kiko's such a soft-hearted kid, they don't want to ruin his illusion. And they want to keep an eye on him, so some vulture doesn't pluck him out of the nest and ravish the poor innocent. And the fanfic cliche dies right there.

This is not just "we were pretending and fell in love for real". This is something far deeper. It's got love, romance, a murder case, a beautiful woman in distress, strange feelings of jealousy from a certain partner, and hot, hot, sex. Lamardeuse writes a beautiful Hutch. He's contemplative, angsty, and is so adorably sexy throughout this story that you can't help but love him. Coupled with her equally beautifully written Starsky - brash yet unsure, sexy, and seductive... what a combination. From the first kiss to the first time they get nekkid, this is a romp well worth curling up in your favorite chair for hours to finish.

Again, it's a long one, but it's Wednesday. You need something to get you through the rest of the week.
