Since being stranded, she keeps painting her toenails and then chipping away at the layers, just as this fic slowly works past her brittle, bitchy surface. Also love the nicely drawn supporting role by a surprisingly sympathetic (for the canon timeline) Sawyer.

Why this must be read:

A charming epilogue to “The Girls of Nazarone Affair,” in which Napoleon and Illya speedily divest themselves of the Innocent in favor of private fun and games. The image of the two agents chasing each other around a hotel room is both plausible and delightful. As Illya reflects (while leaping over beds and shoving chairs into Napoleon’s path), “It had been odd, in the beginning, having a chase that consisted of two predators and no prey—but we'd gotten used to it. We were too much the other's equal to be anything but ourselves when we were together.” Doesn’t that sound just like them? And I love Napoleon’s impromptu zoological lecture when he traps Illya against a window: “And over here we have the fascinating and very rare Illyus kuryakinus, believed to be the only living example of its kind. Take note of the unusual markings of the dominant and predatory male, the flashy coloring and the prominent genitalia.”

I've had a blast being the driver for Smallville this month, and I'm going to finish up with two stories that I just find incredibly hot.

Why this must be read: We all have those stories we turn to when we need a little something-something to get us through the day, and this one never fails me. Threesomes are a serious hot button as far as I'm concerned, and this is the hottest one I've ever read. "Turn You On Somehow" gives us eager, awkward virgin Clark. A slightly predatory Lex. And a sexy girl, who conveniently goes back home to Metropolis the next day. What could be better?

Read it. You won't regret it.

My last couple of recs are going to all be Mulder/Scully, because I am a 'shipper deep down and want to go out with what I think are some of the best classic MSR fiction ever written.

Why this must be read: because it is just so sexy and filled with great dialog.

Scully is mad because she feels Mulder touches her inappropriately at work. Mulder claims the touches are "strictly platonic." They get into a discussion about what is a 'good touch/bad touch' for friends and colleagues and Scully feels Mulder isn't respecting her as a partner. She walks out on the argument when Mulder doesn't seem to grasp her points.

Not be left out of a debate, Mulder goes to her apartment a couple of days later to confront the real reason Scully is upset: that those touches make her so uncomfortable because she wants Mulder.

Then, he tells her the definition of "platonic love" and lets just say things happen. Sexy, sexy things. Mulder is determined to seduce her with words and touches and boy, does he.

Is it hot in here? *g*

My final rec for The Professionals this month and I enjoyed doing it.

Why this must be read:

This story is slightly AU, Bodie is in CI5 and Doyle is not, he's an artist.

Two young people who modelled for Raymond Doyle were used for blackmail and are now murdered. Bodie has to go undercover as a model, to find out if Doyle or his friends have anything to do with it.

They get on well together, very well and a relationship is beginning to develop. Bodie however still needs to go through with his investigation.

And then Ray Doyle finds out who Bodie really is.

... Gah! okay, I've just got to rec this one. It seems to be based on the audiobooks Neverland and Zagreus. Which I haven't heard. I can probably say with confidence that I do not understand this fic, but it freaks me out anyways. In a good way. The "Holy shit!" vibe should stay with you for the duration of the fic, and while having heard the audios in question would probably make the whole thing more comprehesible, it would probably also take much of the kick out of the very end. Bad things happen here. Bad, bad things. But you just can't look away.

Why this must be read:

Because uberaeryn's writing will absolutely kill you. It's beyond gorgeous and haunting, with a stunningly dark underbelly. You can't go wrong with any of her fics (and I strongly urge you to read them all), but this one in particular has all her hallmarks, especially the beautiful but deadly lure of the island, which in so many of her Jack/Sawyer fics is the third character and here cruelly manifests itself in their dreams. There's also the push and pull of trust and need between Jack and Sawyer, two of the must fucked-up guys on TV and you just hold your breath waiting for them to get together. When they finally do, it's hot and bruising and everything you want in an NC-17 fic and more.

This fic, like so many of hers, grabs you and doesn't let go.

Why this must be read: A Post-ep for The Plague told from Starsky's perspective, all I can say is read this because Paula Wilshe wrote it. And if that's not enough to make you read it, try this:

He slumped down on the couch and leaned his head back against the cushion. "I'm just so fucking tired," he said in a low voice. He ran a hand down his face. "I want to feel better than this," he added, gesturing with his hand. "I'm tired of being sick."

"I know," I said softly, "I know," and I stroked his forehead a little bit. It must have been the right thing to do, because he closed his eyes and sighed. "I understand, I really do." I made my voice as gentle as I could, there was so much emotion behind there, you know? But I had no idea if I could make Hutch hear that, feel that. "You'll do better every day," I said, "baby steps, but that's okay, 'cause we've got all the time in the world now."

The caring, the love, the friendship - it's all here, wrapped in a sweet bundle, with a healthy dollop of "me and thee" on top. It's the kind of story you savor, and sigh at the richness of the writing. And I'm not ashamed to say it made me all misty and stuff.

It was written to answer a wish fic for last year's oz_magi challenge, that request being for angsty masturbation, and I think you will agree this comes up aces on delivering.

Why this must be read: ‘Lee seducing Kara’ sounds like a bad cliché, but trust me, it really works. Mostly, I think, because the Lee in this is so perfect; it takes Kara a while to work out what is happening, why she’s so unsettled around him, but by then, it’s too late. Plus, I love the way Voleuse sketches in these scenes that you can just see with so few words.

This is the best portrayal of the Lauren/Sark relationship that I've ever seen. I've never been all that fond of Sark as a character, but this story makes him very interesting.

The line "I can't decide whether you're capable of having loyalties, or merely of changing them," might be the best line ever written about Sark. And it's not all about the Sark! There's some lovely Lauren in there too. So, go ahead, give it a shot.

After making a devastating decision that alienates him from the Scoobies, Xander must cope with life as a lone geek, with only his girl Anya by his side. Somewhat depressed and lonely, he grudgingly accepts an offer from Jonathan to join a little D&D game he has going with these two other guys, Warren and Andrew. The four form a loose bond, and when Xander discovers that Buffy's out of town, he decides to take charge of Sunnydale defense with these magically-inclined losers. Together, they form a team with a mission to save Sunnydale: The Quartet.

Airawyn crafts a wholly believable AU Season 6 from a very simple idea: what if the Geek Trio had strong, benevolent leadership to start with? The characters are all very much themselves. Jonathan just wants good friends, Warren schemes to undermine Xander's authority, and Andrew will take the easiest side in any given conflict.

If you like the Trio, you have to read this fic. It's the wacky Indiana Jones adventure they never went on but totally should have. Airawyn is brilliant with characters and she has a knack for hilarious geek dialogue. Plus, Spike does wedding planning. How can you go wrong?

The Quartet: Hunt for the Chraka Rathklo

As examinations of the cannon dynamic between Blake and Avon go, you can't go wrong with this fic. The relationship between these characters is always fraught, and is captured here with great clarity. The stifling atmosphere echoes the constraints placed on each by the other. Blake needs Avon on his side if his rebellion is to succeed, but how best to push Avon's buttons if they aren't neatly labeled?
