12:29 pm This is the Way by Nanda (NC-17)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Sam/Jack/Daniel
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nandamai
Author Website: nanda'a lament
Why this must be read:

More Moebius fic, this time set in the Ancient Egypt time-traveling part. What the team does when they have no one else left. Sad, slow, and sexy.

Daniel shivered while Sam pulled the skins back up around them and curled her warm body next to his. Desert winter. His wet hair didn't help, either. He buried his head under the covers.

"Shit, you're freezing," Jack said. "Don't touch me."

Fandom: BUFFY
Pairing: Faith/Buffy
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] stoptocheer
Author Website: Unknown

Why this must be read:

Powerful, dark, embodying everything I love about Faith's canon jealousy of Buffy, and hot as all get out, "Hate/Love/Desecrate/Own" doesn't need any more introduction than yes yes yes go read it yes yes yes. Bow down before the wonder that is [livejournal.com profile] stoptocheer, who got it all right in only her second attempt at Buffyverse fic.

Fandom: THE DEAD ZONE
Pairing: Johnny/Bruce

Author Website: http://www.intimations.org/
Why this must be read:

For a show with so many themes about touch, there aren't too many PWPs in this fandom. Touch is, for both the reader and Johnny, a bit of hurt/comfort that slides into sweetness.

06:14 pm Attack of the Hobbit Mafia, by Freedomfry (PG-13)
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Gen: Hobbits 'n' Orli
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] freedomfry
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

The author rates this as 'worksafe', and well, it's worksafe if your employer doesn't frown upon shrieks of laughter emerging from your cubicle. Freedom, while a slashgirl to her core, seems unable to write sex. Which is fine! Because, you know, that means that we have this. Hobbits 'n' Orli and present day and video games and Astin-with-a-bit-of-a-stick-up-his-ass. There's so much humour in this that the little serious moments can be ignored, or, as I prefer, stand out like jewels.

Attack of the Hobbit Mafia

Attack of the Reader Feedback is good, too. Even if you're not a hobbit.

07:15 pm Hunting Squirrels by faelinn (PG)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Charlie/Hurley friendship
Author on LJ: faelinn
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] faelinn
Why this must be read: okay, let me start by saying that this is pure funny and showcases the friendship between Charlie and Hurley. It shows that even on the Island of Doom, people still have time for a bit of silliness and that one of the things that helps make life bearable is friendship. I absolutely adore [livejournal.com profile] faelinn's Charlie and Hurley. Read it for that warm fuzzy feeling and a nice little laugh. On another note, [livejournal.com profile] faelinn is one of those authors I discovered just recently, and most of her Lost fics are a tad bit, well, a lot, darker than this one. Imminently readable. She specializes in what I would consider unusual pairings...in fact, if you drift over to her lj you should check out the Sawyer/Jin fic she wrote. Now, onto the funny...

07:39 pm In the Wild by Maya Tawi (R)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Sawyer/Other
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi
Author Website: http://panthea.populli.net/
Why this must be read: Let me start by saying that this is a brutal fic. It's tightly written, and deals with nonconsensual sex. But, OMG, it's a gripping read. [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi captures Sawyer's voice perfectly, his inner monologue of snark and wry observations regarding the other Lostaways. As far as I know, [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi hasn't written any other Lost fics, which is a damn shame, because she has a real talent for capturing the characters. This fic is set about half-way through the first season and manages to take the reader back to those moments before the hatch, before the Others, when all the Lostaways were still complete strangers. This fic made me shudder and tense up and then burst out laughing at Sawyer's view of some of the other survivors. I'm including an excerpt from one of those parts to lure you in

Fandom: LOTR
Pairing: none

Author Website: wake up and smell the fanfic
Why this must be read:

"In a moment of quiet after the battle of Pelennor Fields, Gandalf reflects upon those who have already departed and those who may yet be lost."

This one grabbed me from the very first lines:
The back of his hands are covered in fine lines, the pattern broken only by brown spots and swollen knuckles. They have always appeared thus for he has no memory of youth. His body arrived, left and was returned to the world aged. This is the way of his kind.

A gentle but not exculpatory story about Gandalf, and the way that he paid with others' lives for the victory he engineered.

09:19 pm Nevermore by Nyssa (PG)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: This isn't a very long story, about three pages, and almost half of it is taken up with Illya on his own. Yet Nyssa manages to get across his feelings for his partner in a few powerful paragraphs. And with the same economy of words, Napoleon's own feelings are expressed. Their scene together is gorgeous.

09:47 pm Taking Care of Business by Vanillafluffy (PG-13)
Fandom: ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] vanillafluffy
Author Website: fanfiction.net profile
Why this must be read:

Vanillafluffy's take on things is always innovative. This story starts almost immediately at the end of Clockwork Mexico, but with a surprising protagonist. Lisiado is a cartelista who has worked for the Gomez cartel for some time. He has married into the family and is raising a son. The Gomezes have suffered a serious setback compliments of the mysterious gun-slinging characters from the previous story, and the internal power struggles that ensue are, at first, of only cynical interest to Lisiado, a world-weary veteran of the cartel wars. Then his own past returns and a meeting with the enemy - El Mariachi himself, and his sunglasses-wearing American associate - opens doors of opportunity for himself and his family. Vanillafluffy warns that this is not a Sands story, and it isn't, though Sands is in it and remains a vital force behind the action. Sands threw "the shapes" that Lisiado "catches." It's great fun to view our two, er, heroes through the eyes of their enemies. This story is not to be missed.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ: not sure
Author Website: Me and Thee Archive
Why this must be read: Often the best stories are the simplest. This story is one of those, a hot little exchange between the boys as they debate whether or not celibacy is something they could live with - even just for a month. Featuring snappy, sassy dialogue, this is the kind of pillow talk that makes one just yearn to be a fly on the wall.
