Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch, Starsky/OFC (brief) Author on LJ: tiranogAuthor Website: None Why this story must be read: because Rosemary is probably my all-time favorite author in Starsky & Hutch fandom. Why? Her stories are imaginative, superbly written with incredible dialog and characterizations that make you wish you had thought of that idea. This story is no exception. Set after Starsky gets shot in the episode, "Sweet Revenge," this is a gripping story about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Just what makes a person attractive or appealing in another human's eyes? For Starsky he finds out the hard way that people may not see beyond the scars on his body after his shooting. In fact, some women might think he's not so sexy anymore. (Bad original female character, bad!) However, in the end, Starsky knows he can always rely on Hutch for love and support because what truly matters is that Hutch sees the real Starsky and loves him --flaws and all. A story that hits all my buttons about what true love should be about. The Right Beholder

Fandom: Star Trek: Enterprise Pairing: Tucker/Sato Author on LJ: lovellamaAuthor Website: Josephine's Enterprise Fan FictionWhy this must be read:This was apparently a take off of an RR that the author participated in, but it stands on its own feet just fine. This is a fist kiss story. I love this story. It's sweet, romantic, and it just captures the moment perfectly. Change of Scenery

Fandom: INVISIBLE MAN Pairing: None Author Website: Story found at The Invisible Man Fanfiction ArchiveWhy this must be read:Darien has counteragent to burn, for once, and makes the most of it. Critterkeeper actually takes a really lovely tack here, showing Darien revelling in his abilities instead of seeing them as a burden, and showing his friends what the world looks like through his eyes. Fandom: INVISIBLE MAN Pairing: Fawkes/Hobbes Author Website: Miriam Heddy's Little Corner of the UniverseWhy this must be read:Because sometimes it really sucks to put your heart out there for someone who doesn't love you back. A slow, bittersweet trip into unmarked territory. "No, that was...that was good. I just--wanna try something. Don't look down, okay, or you'll freak." Typology

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003 Pairing: Kara/Lee Author on LJ: stars_like_dustAuthor Website: stars-like-dust.comWhy this must be read: Sometimes all sex can be is an affirmation of life, followed by a return to the realities of the chain of command. Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex, Clark/Lois Author on LJ: sagenessAuthor Website: Sage's Fiction PagesWhy this must be read: Clark's had two great loves in his life, and this story is all about what happens when he's forced to let go of one of them. Oh, this story hurts, and yet it's such a good read! A Box Called Time ( Warning: This is a death fic.)

Fandom: X-Men Movieverse Pairing: Gen. The Stryker family. Author on LJ: NevacarusoAuthor Website: NevaWhy this must be read:Oh, damn, this is good. Life in the Stryker household, as told from the POV of Jason's mother. This reminds me of Stephen King's writing. Teenage Jason, just expelled from the Xavier Institute, is scary as hell. Jason's mother just comes to life. You really feel her terror. Stories like this justify the existence of ff.net. Keeping House

Fandom: X-Men Movieverse Pairing: Scott/Jean, Charles/Jean, Scott/Logan Author on LJ: Ramblin’ OnAuthor Website: Brenda Antrim’s Fan Fiction ArchiveWhy this must be read:Brenda is a well-known and prolific author in many fandoms. She’s won a number of fannish awards and has been interviewed by mainstream media reporters on the topic of fanfic. Brenda has a tough, blunt, unsentimental way of writing that I think lends itself to writing from the masculine POV. In “Unfinished Business,” a husband bent on revenge tracks Logan to the Institute. The man observes Logan’s interactions with Scott and decides to kill Scott first. The title refers not only to the “unfinished business” between Logan and the man from his past, but also to the “unfinished business” between Logan and Scott at the end of X1. I really like the way Brenda describes the growing attraction between Jean and Charles, a pairing which makes all kinds of sense to me. I like the way Brenda writes Logan. He’s a crass SOB, but likeable. And the way she writes the angry husband’s stream of thought is interesting. Note that Brenda doesn’t describe Scott’s mutant power correctly. In her story it is a laser beam, not a blast of concussive force. Unfinished Business

Fandom: ALIAS Pairing: Francie/ Syd, Syd/Anna Espinosa implied Author on LJ: jennyoAuthor Website: http://www.imjustsayin.net/jennyoWhy this must be read: The author needs no introduction. I recommend this story above her others in the Alias fandom because she gives us that rare gem: the true and compelling Francie POV. Funny, sexy, embarrassing, painful. A sweet little story. Slash and Mary Sues and the boys of 'NSYNC being all funny and meta? Yes, please! Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Chris/Alana, Justin/Christney, Lance/Andrea, JC/Delilah, Chris/Joey Author on LJ: lucyhaleAuthor Website: FuBitch AcademyWhy this must be read: From your other crack van drivers in the past, you've gotten a lot of recs for sincere, moving, emotional fics. Well, I'm here to bring something a little different. I'm here to bring you raging sarcasm and insincerity. Hooray! There is a lot of really bad popslash out there. "A lot."* Fortunately for us, Lucy took some horrible slash and Mary Sue fic and made the boys of *NSYNC do commentary on it, in the style of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (MiSTied fic). What we get is the most hilarious real-time commentary on a truly terrible work. I was re-reading parts of it to do this summary, and I was nearly crying, I was laughing so hard. If you have time, hit up the rest of the MiSTied fics and especially the little piece where *NSYNC MiSTies their own song lyrics. Priceless. * "A lot" in quotation marks refers to a part of *NSYNC's Making The Tour special where Chris discusses how many mistakes they make when doing rehearsals for an upcoming tour. It's very funny and you can even rent the DVD of Making the Tour and see for it yourself! < /PSA>( Excerpt )Immortal Pop Star, MiSTied
