Fandom: BLAKE'S 7 Pairing: none Author on LJ: astrogirl2 Author Website: Betty Ragan's Home Page, but Betty's on-line B7 stories are in the Hermit Library Why this must be read:
Hi there, I'm driving the van for Blake's 7 for February; sorry I took so long to get it started.
I thought I'd rec LJ fiction this month. First up is this thoughtful and moving story written for the B7 crackficathon. It isn't crackfic at all however, with its insight into Cally and her isolation among aliens which hits her hard when her moondisc dies. She wondered what had killed it. Perhaps conditions on the ship simply weren't suited to sustain it in the long term, though she had sensed no discomfort from it, even at the end. Perhaps it had simply reached the end of its allotted span. Or perhaps it had never been meant to live without the touch of others of its kind and had faded away because there was nothing left to keep it alive.
She carefully fed the remains into the recycler, emptied the sandbox, packed away the lamp. Then she sat down on the bed, staring at nothing until the nothing become blurred with moisture.
How odd, she thought, after all the deaths she'd seen, to finally cry over a plant. When the crew realise how much the loss has affected her, they decide to help. Each tries to do so in their own way and with little real understanding of Cally herself. In fact, as kalypso_v says in a comment, they offer themselves in a way, so this poignant and lovely story tells us something of them too. Zoosemiotics

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Author on LJ: morganloganAuthor Website: http://morganlogan.com/Why this must be read: Because everything's Molo's ever written in this fandom is just terrific and usually very hot. She write with an intensity and focus that's absolutely gorgeous. Caught Lightning in particular stands out for the unusual use of metaphor in the story. Not to mention, the hurt/comfort - both physical and emotional - is absolutely yummy. And it all ends exactly where it should, leaving us feeling quite satisfied. Caught Lightning

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Elijah Wood/Orlando Bloom Author on LJ: airlia_vegaAuthor Website: Story ListingWhy this must be read: Written for the prompt "desperate housewives" on lotrips_fqf, this lovely AU story is made up of a series of slices of life that merge together to form a bitter-sweet, melancholy, home-sick romance. valentinstag

Sorry I'm so late kicking off this month! I'm babylil, and I'll be your Stargate: Atlantis driver this month. You'll probably see a bunch of Sheppard/Weir, but I'm getting some advisors in to widen my choices a little so I won't be a one trick pony. I hope you'll enjoy the recs!Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS Pairing: gen (featuring mostly Sheppard and Weir) Author on LJ: duskwingsAuthor Website: unknown Why this must by read:There are a hundred million time-travel stories in every sci-fi fandom, right? And yes, at least eighty percent of them are utter rubbish. This is one of the twenty percent that's excellent. Duskwings takes the 'butterfly in China' idea, and asks just what would've happened if Elizabeth Weir had never joined the Stargate Program, and what John Sheppard could've done about it. Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: None (Genfic) Author on LJ: bwinterAuthor Website: Graphomania in the SnowWhy this must be read: Because this reads like canon. If George Lucas was ever going to tie together the original trilogy character's impressions of the prequel characters based on history and information available, I can't see it going any other way. Gorgeous little moments and solid links drawn from prequels to originals. The characterization is flawless, the pieces touching, and the voices solid. Bwinter also has lovely language and description employed in here. Very memorable and just rings true. It is a series, and the links to each following piece are included in each post. Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Author on LJ: dolimir_kAuthor Website: N/A, I think Why this must be read: It's got everything -- romance, psychic connections, heroic!Lex, CLexcest, and it's by dolimir_k! What more can a fangirl want? Two Halves

Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS Pairing: Smeagol/Deagol Author on LJ: sangredulceAuthor Website: ashes, ashesWhy this must be read: Because this is both creepy and sweet. This is Smeagol and Deagol in the time before and after the discovery of the ring. The peacefulness of the moments before the discovery make the twisting of the relationship by the ring both unnerving and tinged with sadness throughout. This is one that will stick in your mind for a while. ( Excerpt )Birthday Present

Hi there. My name is SA, and I will be doing Harry Potter recs this month. This is my third year with Crack Van (wow!) and the seventh fandom I've reccomended. Time flies so fast! Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Author on LJ: geovikiAuthor Website: Author's Directory at Skyehawke Why this must be read:This is the perfect answer to a cold, snowy day. Fionn's book is long, plotty, and hits my particular kinks. While Harry/Draco may not be your cup of tea, this story also has strong secondary characters that engage the reader, especially the relationship between Seamus and Dean. If you're looking for an excuse to hide awake from the rest of the world (as I am this blustery month!) this is the perfect diversion. A Thousand Beautiful Things

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: no pairing Author on LJ: lithium_dollAuthor Website: Alter IdemWhy this must be read: This is a wonderful saga with a gripping plot, good characterisations and wonderful character interactions. It's got all those familiar faces we've grown to love in the show - Duncan, Methos, Joe, Richie, Amanda and a couple of good OC-s diving headfirst (or, in some cases, being unwillingly dragged *g*) into the worrisome business of saving the world from a more than usually intriguing K'immie. Methos' past rears one of it's ugly heads again...Duncan is comfortably mature...Joe and Amanda are as good as we remember them and Richie is better *g*...oh, and here be wondrous snark, too. And did I mention that it is long? Mmmm, long snark *gg*. Besides, as a bonus, you'll find out why life is like an empty bottle of beer. ( an excerpt )All Fall Down
