Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: None, really. Author on LJ: Various. Author Website: Various. Why this must be read: This "story" consists of nine linked vignettes by nine very talented people, each featuring one of Farscape's alien characters, pre-series, contemplating the stars. Not only does it offer up some lovely character insights, but there's also some excellent world-building, and, in a couple of cases, a creative and original writing style which does a great deal to capture the sense of truly being in an alien POV. Each segment is short enough, and different enough, that there isn't really much point in quoting an excerpt... Just read the whole thing; I don't think you'll be disappointed. Fandom: BLAKE'S 7 Pairing: none Author on LJ: shimere277 Author Website: none, but you can find many of her stories in the b7fic memories, under by Shimere277. Why this must be read:
This is a taut and brilliant analysis of Vila and Avon's relationship, as they take shelter in a hunting shack on Gauda Prime. Vila, to whom feeling is all, tries to get Avon to acknowledge that he cares, and Avon, all cutting logic, cannot grasp why Vila seems to, well, care about being cared about. Vila’s head spun with the obscurity of Avon’s logic. To him, it wasn’t about logic, or evaluations, or anything of the sort. You take care of your friends; that’s all. “Well, bloody being tortured for my sake seems like a foolish gesture, if you ask me.”
“I would never betray an ally to an enemy.”
“It proves you care.”
“I wouldn’t betray Tynus. I certainly didn’t care about him. I considered his friendship a simple business expedient.” Vila and Avon are perfectly in character, and the story captures the whole feel of season 4 very well indeed. A Man and His Dog

Fandom: BLAKE'S 7 Pairing: none Author on LJ: executrix Author Website: Executrix's Plotless Lagomorph Asylum Why this must be read:
Like all of Executrix's stories, this is witty, vastly entertaining, and beautifully crafted.
When Ron Weasley's father brings home a muggle artifact called a television, Ron conjures up some help from it. ( Except: meeting of different worlds ) I could quote just about every sentence (like the one with Restal's Thestral Vestals), but that's one of the signs of an Executrix fic. This is a comic joy, with SorcerPreme Commander Servalan as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, a guest appearance by Tarrant, a heist at Gringott's branch office in Hogsmeade, and a Warning for Avon. Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Author on LJ: sabershadowkat d/b/a Henry Jones Jr. Author Website: Sabershadowkat's Home PageWhy this must be read:"You told me once that some people were meant to be alone." Clark Kent smiled sadly at his best friend. "I think you were right."Thus begins the tale of the marriage of convenience of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. I name it a "marriage of convenience" because it's awfully inconvenient when your wives keep trying to kill you; Clark's suggestion is that if he and Lex are married, Lex would have to get Clark's approval before he could take another homicidal bride. This story, full of the warmth and humor characteristic of Henry's writing, follows canon up through Obsession. With This Ring

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: none Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Fanfic by LolaWhy this must be read:I don't want to say too much about this story, because I don't want to spoil it. It's very short, it's... even sweet, though in a rip-your-heart-out kind of way. It is not a happy story. It's listed as gen, and I'm sure the writer intended it to be gen, but really the whole gen/slash divide is irrelevent in this little tale. It's about love. A Crooked Smile
