07:30 am YOUR INEVITABLE UNHAPPY ENDING by Helen (NC-17)
Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: Sheppard/McKay
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] helenish
Author Website: Oh, the humanity!

Why this must be read:

This is Helen's first SGA fic, but many people know her from other fandoms, including Sentinel. This particular story is well written, with a believable premise and an emotionally compelling conflict that draws the reader in. She keeps John and Rodney real, somewhat effed up, and utterly sympathetic. She also manages to flesh out the background characters so that no one really feels like they're there just to support the scenery. In other words, she knows what makes the SGA crew tick, and transposes it into a "what if?" situation without losing anyone along the way.

In addition to that, her writing is emotional without being OTT or maudlin, humourous without being slapstick, and hot without being spuriously pornographic. It all has depth and context and it's just ... damn it, it's good.

11:22 am That My Days Have Been A Dream by Nerys (R)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: John/DK/Jack although no sex, just major angst; John/Aeryn
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: unknown archived on Farscape Void (now defunct)
Why this must be read:

Nerys wrote this story in the early days of Farscape fandom and it still haunts me with its longing for home and normality. John is searching for the theory of wormholes and is torn between home and Aeryn. He is seriously depressed and Nerys writes with much heart about John’s dilemma. It is lyrical, realistic, and spooky and plays to all our Moyan’s strengths. Beware of suicide in this story that earns it its R rating from Nerys.

11:52 am The Price by can (PG-13)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: John/Aeryn, John/Harvey, John/Scorpius, Sikozou/Scorpius, John/Mel-on Grayza

Why this must be read:

This story is long and angst-filled, pain-filled, and a little over the top but a fun romp to read. It takes play just after What Was Lost and posits an AU where Aeryn comes back with Scorpius ala Promises but the promise is different. All hezmana breaks loose from there. Can writes with her heart on her sleeve. This isn’t literature but it is glorious angst. Can asks what is the price of love and loyalty?

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: none (gen)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fluterbev
Author Website: Fluterbev's Ephemera
Why this must be read:

The Sentinel fandom has slowed down in recent years, so most of the stories I am recommending have been around for awhile. Fortunately there are still some wonderful authors actively creating new fiction. Fluterbev is one of the best. I'm happy for the opportunity to recommend a brand new story from her pen (keyboard?) and equally thrilled to see a 'Coming Soon' announcement on her site.

Someone who knows about sentinels is committing crimes in Cascade. It never occurs to Jim Ellison that the one person he trusts completely could be involved. Can you imagine circumstances that would cause Blair to turn on his Sentinel? At first we can't understand why Blair would feel the need to take this drastic step, in spite of the desperate situation he finds himself in. Why does he make such bad choices? Gradually Fluterbev peels back the layers of old secrets to make us understand.

Jim reacts as we expect, with cold fury, seeing things in the worst possible light. Simon is the voice (and heart) of reason, helping the two to see other possibilities in this satisfyingly long, gripping tale that breaks your heart before healing it.

"Jim," Sandburg protested, glancing up. "It's not what you-"

"Shut up! Just shut the fuck up!" Sandburg winced, his eyes closing, as Ellison's barely contained bitterness sprang loose. "I don't wanna hear it. Save it for the judge. Because I'm telling you, ‘Tommy' or whatever it is you call yourself. You are going down." As the detective spoke, he reached to his belt, unhooking the cuffs hanging there. "So make it easy on both of us, huh? Don't fight me on this. Because it's over. And you can't possibly win." He approached Sandburg, the cuffs in his hand.

Sandburg opened his eyes and watched as the other man came closer. Their eyes met, angry blue to anguished blue. "I'm sorry, Jim," Ellison's former partner said, a deep, aching misery in his voice. "I'm really, really sorry."

And he sprayed the mace that was concealed in his hand directly into the sentinel's face.
