01:08 am Infirmary After by Teand (PG-13)
Fandom: STARGATE: SG-1
Pairing: gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] teand
Author Website: The Compound
Why this must be read: One of the reasons I love fan fiction is that it can bring characters into situations that are real and scary in a way that networks can't or won't; in some ways bringing the characters to life in a way that they aren't on television. Infirmary After is a short fic that does that in a heartbreaking way.

"Did you know that when women started flying combat missions, we were taken aside and told what we could expect, as women, if we went down behind enemy lines?"

04:05 am The Space Between by Layton Colt (R)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: none; gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] laytoncolt
Author Website: Nixa Jane's fanfiction
Why this must be read:

The moment the episode Twilight ended, you could tell the fandom was in shock. So much so, a whole category of fic was created practically overnight--the Twilight aftermath--to fill in the space we had to wait between one season and the next. There were several approaches, but the most common one was a character study, often from the POV of another character.

Layton Colt's The Space Between gives us McGee's look at Tony's rapid descent. Each section is rawer than the preceding and the fic is not only almost poetic, but it gives you a fair approximation of what many fans were feeling at the time.

04:25 am Truth Or Dare by Kylie Lee (NC-17)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Kate/Abby
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kylielee1000
Author Website: Kyliefic
Why this must be read:

Sometimes you just need a good, sweet, girly drink of a fic. Maybe with a bit of salt around the edge.

In canon, Kate and Abby hit it off from the first moment they meet. Their friendship grows deeper over two seasons, and there's plenty of text, sub and otherwise--girls' nights in, lacy underwear, who's packing what--all very flirty and, well, hot as hell.

Truth Or Dare is a wonderful slice of life, a teamfic--Tony, Abby, Kate and McGee all out for drinks after work. The premise, is, of course, simple, but Kylie Lee makes it work. Each character is written true-to-voice, and Kate's reactions to the entire situation ring perfectly.

09:39 am Crossroads by Alyjude (NC-17)
Fandom: SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alyburns
Author Website: Stories by Alyjude
Why this must be read:

One of the things about Sentinel fandom is that if there's pain to be dealt, physical or emotional, Blair Sandburg inevitably gets the short straw because he does "hurt" so well. And those are great, but sometimes you just need a story that shows the side of Blair that rises to whatever challenge life throws at him, that shows his strength. Crossroads has Blair and Simon badly hurt in the middle of nowhere and shows Simon's growing respect as he leans on Blair to get them out of trouble.

"i'm moving. why am i moving?"

"Well, see," he paused, tried to catch his breath, but failing that, threw words out around his strugging pants. "It's like this. If I move... you move. When... I started to drag you... to that safer - place I mentioned? Well... got stuck. No choice... but to drag your... sorry ass -up this fucking... mountain."

"Sandburg, stop right now." The voice, the command, both unmistakable.

Blair kept going.

"Sandburg, did you hear me? This is an order. Stop right this minute."

"Well... I'd like to, Simon... but - I've got this rhythm... going, you know? Hate... to break it now."

04:49 pm It's Probably Me by David S. (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek
Author on LJ: Not that I could find
Author Website: The X-files Musings of nakedmanatee (once again found through the Wayback Machine)
Why this must be read:

I went to look this fic up to link and started to skim it, just to figure out what I was going to say. Ended up re-reading the entire thing and enjoying it all over again. So much fun, a writing style that's original enough not to feel like the same old stuff, and a great injection of humor at the perfect moments.

Exerpt:
"You're not going to...kiss me again, are you?" I finally say, breaking the silence.
"You've got a one track mind, Mulder," he says, getting off me.
