09:48 am Rosencrantz and Guildenstern by Wintertime (Mature)
Fandom: SGA
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] in_wintertime
Author Website: Her SGA fiction is available through Wraithbait
Why this must be read:
This is a 'what if' AU, where one slight change is made to aired canon, and the story cascades down from there. The actual mechanics of the change is done as a slow reveal, which is one of my favorite story structures. So we start with events already in progress, and have to pick up the background as the story goes along, making this part mystery and part horror, and a study in the unlikely friendship between McKay and Ford.

10:08 am Pinocchio by TimIan (PG-13)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: None

Why this must be read: I find it hard to express exactly how much I love this story. I've always thought that Kal must have a power of seduction--not necessarily sexual seduction, but a way to make people love and want to protect him. It's the only reasonable explanation for the way people react to both Clark (mostly never really seeing what he is, but loving him intensely if they're in the inner circle) and Superman (such adoration, so little fear).

This story is a short, creepy vignette which nails that idea. Nails it cold. It gives me goosebumps every time.

05:08 pm Slip into joy by Maygra (NC-17)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Methos/MacLeod
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] maygra
Author's website: Maygra's musings
Why this must be read:

Suddenly, I felt like reccing something by Maygra. I wonder why. Let's see? Because she's a better writer than most? Because her stories have a start, tell a story and end the right way? Because they're satisfying? Relationships pictured in their contradictions and flaws and uncertainty? No feminization of the characters, true to themselves? Should I mention the clever dialogues where MacLeod and Methos sound like, well... MacLeod and Methos? The sex, that's hot and satisfying for both? The characterization, flawless?

All of it. I love Maygra's writing. I love this story; it's a very good one. Not frustratingly short, not boringly long; with a very believable relationship and characters -both of them.

08:48 pm Won't Fade Away by Hybridbabe (PG-13)
As promised, this one is not John and Aeryn...

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: John and Stark friendship
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hybridbabe
Author Website:
Why this must be read:

Stark is a notoriously hard character to write for, Hybridbabe does it beautifully. He is a fully realized character in this fic, and the piece is almost lyrical in its language, full of depth and beauty. The dialog between he and John is perfect, driving the story foward and so true to who these characters are. The quiet sense of both hope and melancholy are perfectly balanced and it makes the reader ache for both Stark and John. (In a good way *grin*)
