Why this must be read:

It's not completely rare to find fiction from the point of view of an 'outsider' as regards to go. It probably stands to reason, as the players' obsession is often something to wonder at. There are some very well done pieces along these lines, often from the point of view of family, which makes sense as they would usually be expected to have other forms of connection, though given the circumstances go often enough ends up being the means of insight in some form or another. That's not completely applicable in this case; The Stars All Seem to Weep centers around a family member, Hikaru's grandfather, but instead makes the connection from within the game and presents an interesting example of the past connecting to the future, a key note of the series.

Fandom: SGA
Pairing: Sheppard/OFC (though not the focus of the story)

Author Website: Derivative Fiction
Why this must be read:

This story is great science fiction. It showcases characters making some very hard choices, against a backdrop of a rich alien culture, with interesting plot, angst, H/c, and multiple layers of theme. (One of my big literary kinks)

This story is great fan fiction, delving into who John Sheppard is and exploring the Stargate universe, assembling bits and pieces of canon (such as the episode 'Allies' and the on-going genetics storylines) and extrapolating from them to create much more than the sum of its parts.

This story is future fic, raw and uncompromising in its conclusions, full of resonant emotional intensity. It's a novel, and I sank into the story as I read it, walking away with something approaching an emotional hangover when I was done.

Though of course, everyone's mileage on the reading experience will vary.

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: none really, a few hints of Tony/Abby
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kageygirl
Author website: http://www.kageygirl.com/. I didn't see the NCIS fics there, but you can find them in her memories.
Why this must be read:

This is a delightful, light-hearted fic with a sequence of scenes from the inside of an elevator--a place used often on NCIS for conference rooms and impromptu meetings. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you want to pet various characters, and it's just overall wonderful. Kageygirl keeps everyone in character and has a deft, light touch with the vignettes she presents, leaving you satisfied and at the same time wishing you had more. As far as I know, she's new to NCIS fandom; here's hoping she sticks around.
