12:35 am Reflection by Sandi (NC-17)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Methos/Kronos
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Sandi's index at The Methos Boxer Brigade
Why this must be read:

During "Revelation 6:8", Methos sits reading. Unbeknownst to him, Kronos watches. This is a very seductive look through Kronos' eyes at his memories of Methos and what they were together. And they were pyroclastic – full of intensity and passion, just the way I love it.

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: *NSYNC Chris/Joey pre-slash
Author on LJ: Dayse
Author Website: *MoJoe*
Why this must be read: Every once in a while, I will see a pic of the guys when they were younger and want to read something that takes me back to those times. MoJoe does it in just a few short paragraphs, nailing each guy so well, you smile. It's not a perfect time but they're together.

Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark Kent/Lex Luthor
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Castle's Keep
Why this must be read:

This is an incredibly hot established relationship future fic. Basically, Clark and Lex go out and a couple poor souls are unfortunate enough to try and mug them. It ruins the rest of their night, but then it's redeemed in a different way when Lex discovers that Clark has an...interesting...reaction to the muggers' taser. Oh boy, *fans self*

05:38 pm Selections From The Book Of The Dead by Lyrastar (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Author on LJ: watergal
Author Website: http://liquidfic.net/
Why this must be read:

“Selections from the Book of the Dead” is set during the events of “Star Trek IV”. Kirk and Spock return to find that Starfleet Security has ransacked their apartment in its search for evidence to use against Kirk at his upcoming court-martial. They sift through the damage done to the possessions they shared. As they do so, Lyrastar highlights everything they have lost and will likely continue to lose. The miracle of Spock’s renewed life contrasts with the loss of the connection between them, and they must face the probability that Kirk will be sentenced to a long prison term.

Then Spock, searching for the remnants of what they once possessed, decides to take Kirk on a most interesting journey.

Lyrastar has a genius for creating a specific image which carries the emotional weight of a scene. The wording of an inscription on a gift, a child’s heartless comment, an abandoned toy – each one of these details adds to the impact of this story. A striking image of the Nile River, which has breached its banks under the influence of the alien probe, shows exactly how close the Earth came to destruction. It also emphasizes how very much James Kirk accomplished even as he lost everything else. Finally, she uses an image of ruin to express hope.

Lyrastar writes with subtlety and with strength. Every time I read her work, I feel I know more about these characters than I ever knew before.
