09:58 am Just Doing the Shopping by saklani2 and wushu76 (PG-13)
Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Viggo/Elijah
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] saklani2 and [livejournal.com profile] wushu76
Author Website: Saklani's Wilderness
Why this must be read:

I'll be the first to admit that this fic is more than a little schmoopy, but it's also pretty damn funny.

Viggo lifted a tomato and regarded it with utmost seriousness, before putting it aside and picking up another that looked almost identical. Apparently, this one contained the right mystic aura, for Viggo put it in the cart.

Elijah looked at Viggo choosing the tomato, and then picked up the one in the cart and the rejected one. He studied them intently for a moment before asking, "What's the difference?"

Viggo pointed to the chosen one. "That one wanted to be a part of the pasta dish I'm making tonight."

01:22 pm Break by AnnaK (PG-13)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: Aeryn Sun/John Crichton
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] annakarrennina
Author Website: Fool's Gold
Why this must be read:

Anna is fairly new to the Farscape fandom and in Break she proves that she gets the characters, particularly Aeryn, in this season 3 fic. The prose is beautiful and spare, and cuts deeply while managing to avoid gratuitous angst. You feel Aeryn's pain and hear the words as if they were truly her own.

02:51 pm The E Street Band by [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce (PG13)
Hi! I'm [livejournal.com profile] sionnain and I'll be bringing you X-Men goodness (both movieverse and comic-verse) for your reading pleasure for the month of August! *waves*

Fandom: X-Men, Comicverse (Astonishing X-Men)
Pairing: Scott, Logan; references to Scott/Emma, Scott/Jean, and most of the E Street Band.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce
Author Website: Organized Links

Why this must be read: Just read her description of how this story came to be: I was trying to figure out why Logan spends so much time crouching on Scott's bed. The answer, inevitably, led me to the life story of Bruce Springsteen. Because every shipper war has a Bruce, a Patti, a Stevie, and a Clarence. Logan will be happy to explain.

How could you not want to read this?

[livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce writes a great Scott, a wonderful Logan, and the banter between them is spot-on and wonderful. Her voices are perfect, and her comparisons of the X-Men team to Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band? Priceless

Here follows a snippet!

"Do you actually have a point? Because this might be the stupidest conversation I've ever had before noon on a Sunday."

Logan keeps staring at him, "You tell me. Why did Clarence move?"

"Because he was the new second guitarist?"

Scott has actualy seen Logan stabbed in the gut, more than once, but he's never looked quite so pained as he does at this moment.

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Ten/Rose

Why this must be read:

Once upon a time (i.e. June 2006) there was a ficathon. [livejournal.com profile] little_bit_foxy, the First Doctor Who Kinkathon. This fic was one of this ficathon's shining jems. How can you not resist enormous amounts of flora and fauna, the setting of Amsterdam, and the excessant use of trenchcoat!porn? You can't, says I! It's got good flow... like jazz in a way.

08:04 pm Adverse Possession by Meg Tipper (PG)
Fandom: The Magnificent Seven
Pairing: None - gen
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Meg's Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

Meg does a wonderful job of weaving all the men into this story, something that can be difficult with seven main characters.  When a land hungry Frenchman starts to strong arm settlers of Four Corners the Seven are forced to utilize all their talents to bring him down.

Chris rested one hand on the pouch at his belt, which contained the Aif’s eviction notice, his face falling into a deep frown. "Ezra," he began, "what about these notices. You said that they were not in themselves necessarily illegal."

Ezra did not respond immediately, mulling over his words. When he spoke, Chris noticed there was a slightly uncertain tone in the voice of the usually self-assured gambler. "What I meant is, if Mr. Allen is a wealthy man, then there is a possibility that he may own more than just land; he might own some very influential people as well. That Sheriff Clark, the surveyor, may have been bought. If so, it would have been very easy to have him forge title documents, and then create an order of eviction based on such documents. The notice is legal until it is proved the titles are fake."
