09:35 am Fandom Overview - Men's Professional Tennis RPS
To make a list of all the players we slash would be quite difficult, it's probably easiest for me to say that if they're in the Top 100, they're fair game (though even that's not absolute). There are so many at-the-net ass pats (Roger Federer, I'm looking at you), and cheek caresses (and you Marat Safin) that really there's 'evidence' for pretty much any couple you could ever want to see.

Howdy y'all! I am [personal profile] sansets and I'll be your due South driver for the month of October. The pairing of my heart is Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio, but don't worry - I am going to try to rec at least a story or two per pairing, and perhaps throw in some *gasp* het too!

Why this must be read: Over and above this being my OT3, this story has some amazing things going for it. An adorable sweetness to the established relationship, dancing, and I don't think that I can say enough good things about the voices. (Especially Vecchio. She nails Vecchio's voice but good!) And it is really hot - did I mention that yet? In conclusion, just go read it - NOW!

Hey there! I'm Sar and I'll be Captaining this vessel er...Driving the van for the Hornblower fandom this month. I have a variety of interests in terms of pairing and I hope to be able to share a variety of different recs with you guys over the next thirty one days.
Without any further adieu let's get started:

Fandom: Hornblower
Pairing: Hornblower/Bush
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dastier
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

This is the fic that sparked my interest in the Hornblower/Bush pairing, seeing that I usually tend to prefer Archie Kennedy as the love interest in most Hornblower slash. The premise is what first drew me in:
Horatio is put into a mental hospital for violating the 29th Article of War: In other words, he's been found guilty of sodomy.

It's up to Bush to get his captain out before it is too late. But first he has to get to him by navigating the aslyum and then trying to work within the system to free him.

The story is griping, brutally honest in its descriptions of the horrors patients regularly had to face and features a very strongly written Maria, which is a nice change from most fics in the fandom. It is one that I tend to read over and over again when I have the time, and though I know what is going to happen, it doesn't change the element of suspense at all.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Author on LJ: No
Author Website: File Forty
Why this must be read:

This is almost the first thing I read in the MFU fandom, causing me to fall in love instantly.

It's a 'how they met' and a striking one, treating us to a rare glimpse of our boys in their extreme youth and how their relationship was forged through the worst of all possible meetings. Napoleon here is so young, raw and uncertain, yet toughened by circumstance and every inch the inspiring commander in embryo, already displaying the humanity and resourcefulness that will define his later career.

The early part crackles with the caustic humour and casual heroism of men in a male world. It is also a crossover (I won't say which) and the spot-on character voices all add to the fun. The second half of the story charts Napoleon and Illya's blossoming passion with charged erotic encounters which will leave you breathless and dreaming.

Read and enjoy.

10:20 pm Territorial Imperative (one through seven ) by Bone (NC-17)
Hey, there! I’m [livejournal.com profile] tatkreiswok, and I’m happy to be driving the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van for “The Sentinel” again! Now that I’ve wrested the keys away from Jim -- buckle up! We’ve got bad guys to pursue! Dissertations that we hope pass committee! And as many tribal customs that facilitate sex scenes, gratuitous crime stories that lead to sex scenes, and well, just about anything that leads to getting Jim and Blair into bed (or onto any available surface, really) as we can come up with! That said, I’m a sucker for canon and for great characterizations that keep Jim his macho cop self, and avoid feminizing Blair.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thisisbone
Author Website: Bone
Why this must be read:

Is love – or sex, for that matter – a territorial imperative? Is it chemistry alone that makes you fall in lust, or in love? And what exactly is it that makes you want to claim someone else as yours – either sexually, or by taking over a sock drawer? A lot of fic for “The Sentinel” plays fast and loose with the idea of spirit animals and the inescapable attraction of Sentinel and Guide for one another. They all have their place, but here, Bone sublimates all of those impulses and puts forth some very simple questions about attraction and imperative behaviors that beautifully frame the ongoing relationship between Jim and Blair; wonderfully complex men, who are hardly perfect, as they figure out what we’ve known about them all along: they’re better together.

I was shocked that this bouncy, lusty, and thought-provoking series had not been rec’ed, and am only too happy correct that oversight. Bone is one of the best writers you’ll come across in “Sentinel” fic, and this series is no exception. It follows alongside canon events, and it is a masterful work; great voices, terrific characterizations, and molten (and very real) sex that gets progressively hotter as each story progresses.

[livejournal.com profile] ishie here, taking another turn at the wheel. This time, I make two promises: 1) more recs!, and 2) more recs! I sadly neglected some wonderful stories and characters last time, so buckle up -- it's going to be a busy month.

If you're wondering what you're in for, it's simple. This month, you're going to get a lot of smaller stories about many of the secondary and tertiary characters. Plus, the obligatory ensemble piece -- and at least one Josh/Donna story. What can I say? I'm weak. ;)

Fandom: THE WEST WING
Pairing: Ainsley, Mrs Landingham (gen)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pene
Author Website: [unknown]
Why this must be read:

My original review of this story was one word: Guh. I still stand by that opinion. This is a very tiny, very beautiful post-18th and Potomac Ainsley fic, but it's so much more than that. It was written for something called the Gal Pal ficathon and uses the aftermath of the episode to explore the permanent and fleeting bonds between women.
