Fandom: THE A-TEAM
Pairing: none (could be read as Face/Murdock pre-slash if you squint hard)

Why this must be read: In the episode "Lease with an Option to Die," the team goes to Chicago to help out B.A.'s mom when bad guys try to drive the tenants out of her building. One of the key scenes of the episode is B.A. disarming a bomb in the basement, the team refusing to leave although they know if B.A. fails, the bomb will take them all. This story is a quiet resolution to that incident. Face has gone to the rooftop to deal with things in his own way, and B.A. seeks him out. The conversation they have is very much in character, yet reveals an astute side to B.A. that the show rarely allowed him to show. B.A. may not say much, but he knows them all extremely well. How they act, react, and why. The POV in this story is a really interesting look into the way B.A. sees his role on the team, and how he understands the complicated relationships between the four of them.

'You okay, Faceman?' )

Why this must be read: Face and Murdock can be hilariously entertaining in the hands of the right author. Here, Murdock has been trying his "oh-so-subtle" approach at getting Face's attention. As the author says, it's "good days, bad days, two explosions, and three kisses, and not necessarily in that order," and that really does sum up the story. Much of it takes place between a bathroom door in a motel. Face has gotten a clue, but isn't sure what to do about it. Murdock is persistent as only he can be. It's got great dialogue and the sex is mostly of the fade-to-black variety, which works just fine here. One of my comfort fics when I need a smile.

'I’m having a lousy day, Murdock,' he said. 'And I have no shoes. If I didn’t think tomorrow would be better, I’d slit my wrists. And don’t think I’ve forgotten about that, that kissing thing. What the hell’s that supposed to mean?' )

01:21 pm Untitled by Thea (PG)
Fandom: STARGATE: SG-1
Pairing: Cam/Vala
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thassalia
Author Website: memories
Why this must be read:

Vala is another difficult character in fic, I think, because she has to walk that fine line between precocious, but not stupid or shallow. (Well, shallow in some ways. Not in others.) And Cam/Vala, I tend to think of as a 'ship mainly invented by "those crazy Farscape people" (not that that's necessarily true, or that there is anything wrong with Farscape or sublimated John/Aeryn urges, I fully support all of the above). But in canon, they've exchanged maybe two sentences outside the briefing room. Thea takes those two sentences, and shows us how much Cam and Vala actually have in common. Each is the odd man out, the newbie, doing the best that they can.

And if that doesn't sell you, just think: John! Aeryn! Kissing! Eeee!

Across the mess, he can hear Vala's laugh, sharp and catching. He looks over, sees her talking to the two security guards who aren't supposed to follow her so much as steer her in the directions she's supposed to go. It's like setting rabbits to watch the Rotweiller, but she hasn't – to his knowledge - tried to seduce or rob them like last time so everyone just lets the situation alone, hopes for the best.

"Do you think this is a good idea?" Mitchell looks at Sam intently, trying to put some of his serious misgivings into his voice. "To let her stay?"

Sam shrugs. "Where else is she going to go?"
