Fandom: TORCHWOOD Pairing: Jack/Sarah-Jane Smith Author on LJ: aeshna_ukAuthor Website: N/A Why this must be read:When I knew I was going to get to rec Torchwood this month, I immediately thought of this fic because it is *wonderful*. It was actually written before Torchwood aired and yet, it is perfectly fitting for Jack. It's just...when you think of how many of the Doctor's companions are running around on Earth it's inevitable Jack run into one of them and omg, Sarah Jane. For Who fans, her characterization here is wonderful btw. Encounters On The Slow RoadI've so enjoyed reccing Torchwood this month and I hope you enjoyed all the stories.

Happy New Year, everyone! I'll be double teaming you this month, with recs from the due South and From Eroica With Love fandoms. Hope you enjoy! Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: RayK/Fraser Author on LJ: etcetera_catAuthor Website: Etcetera-cat's denWhy this must be read:This is the story of Ray and Fraser told from the perspective of Diefenbaker, their trusty sidekick and tricky matchmaker rolled into one. This story needs to be read for Dief's voice alone. He's hilarious, and the way that he views Fraser and Ray and humans in general seems right on target. The best thing about this story, though, are Dief's interactions with Ray's turtle. ( Excerpt )Learn to Speak Canine in Seven Easy Steps

One of your small fandoms this month will be From Eroica With Love. thehoyden provided a fantastic fandom overview that you can read here if you're unfamiliar with the canon. Fandom: FROM EROICA WITH LOVE Pairing: Klaus/Dorian, pre-slash Author on LJ: laurakayeAuthor Website: The Fanfiction of Laura M. KayeWhy this must be read:Since yuletide author reveals went up yesterday, I figured I would start with the lone Eroica story written for the challenge this year. It's relatively short, but compelling. For Christmas, Dorian finally hits on the perfect Christmas present for Klaus. I wondered what he could find that Klaus would appreciate and was surprised and satisfied with what the author came up with. ( Excerpt )Provenance

Hello ladies (and a few gentlemen)! I'm Luthe and I'll be your Star Wars driver for this month. I've got things in the van for both PT and OT fans to enjoy, and my emphasis this month is on gen, with only a few little bits of slash. I'm a bit Luke-and-Vader centric, but I promise that I'll be reccing other stuff, too. Now, onto the rec! Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: None Author on LJ: tartanshellAuthor Website: Tartanshell's FicWhy this must be read:For everyone who's always wanted Luke and Vader to have just a little more time together at the end, Tartanshell comes through. You can feel the love between father and son in this fic, and there is a powerful sense of intimacy that dominates the story. Tartanshell stays absolutely true to the characters to the point where you wonder why this isn't canon. ( Excerpt )Even Though I Know You're Leaving

Hi, I'm Dori and I'm driving the Sentinel van this month. *waves* Some of you may be surprised to see me reccing Sentinel instead of QAF, my most recent Obsession (hey that's a perfume, right?), but, well. QAF pretty much broke me, and Sentinel is where I went for comfort. *G* And there's a lot of Senfic to comfort a broken heart, so I've been saving up recs for about six months. Here we go with the first one: Fandom: SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Author on LJ:Author Website: http://members.tripod.com/~AnnaBleigh/the_library.htmWhy this must be read: This is a long piece, with hot sex and angst. AND a happy ending. (No blood, but, well, nothing's perfect.) This story got me right where I was living when I read it--wanting something so desperatey, and knowing you're not going to get it, ever. Except when you do. Surrogate

Hi, I'm poisontaster, and I'll be your Angel driver for the month of January. Angel is a fandom that I play in strange corners and the oddball fringes and my choices will probably reflect that. Hopefully, however, I might bring you some fics that escaped your notice before. I tend to like shorter fiction, and my choices will reflect that. Fandom: ANGEL Pairing: None, really. Minor mention of Lindsay/Lilah. Author on LJ: alizarin_nycAuthor Website: House of the Red CometWhy this must be read: This story was written for the "I Will Remember You" ficathon, which happens to be one of my favorite episodes. Which, obviously is not the reason YOU should read this story. But the story captures some of the same emotional poignancy of the episode itself; significant, life changing events that take place during that day and are later erased forever. There's a brilliant tragedy to seeing what might have been and, through no fault or action of the characters, is never to be. Bury You In It

Hi. I'm rubynye, and I'll be reccing for DC Comics this month. My tastes lean towards Gotham-based stories, so my recs will tend towards those as well, but I've tried to include some stories from other settings and with other characters. The DC Comics fandom has oodles of wonderful fic; I could easily have prepared 24, or 36, or 48 recs for this month. I hope you find the ones I settled on useful and fun. To start with, a short story with a long title. Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: None, believe it or not. Author on LJ: __marceloAuthor Website: http://users.livejournal.com/__marceloWhy this must be read:The Lord King Bad Fic challenge at dc_flashfiction produced many great stories. One of my favorites was this one. Many fans of Batman (most, I might even venture), have wondered what would happen if Bruce ever tried a different tactic in his War on Crime. So did Marcelo; then he wrote it down.
Excerpt: It was a combination of things.
It was Selina's reason to open her own community Center in the East End. "What I was trying wasn't working, so I decided to try something else."
It was the white hairs he had found in his head last morning.
It was his weekly analysis of Gotham's crime patterns, red curves that never fell.

Hey all, pocketmouse here with your Magnificent Seven recs for January. Ezra's my favorite, but I love 'em all, really, so while Ezra's going to feature rather heavily in my recs set, he's definitely not going to be alone. Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Gen Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: BlackraptorWhy this must be read:There are a lot of Magnificent Seven AUs out there that feature one or more of the gang as children, but as fun as that might be, that tends to change the dynamic for a bunch of tough, gun-slinging desperadoes or hardened federal agents. It's hard to find one that can keep the balance between the Seven equal, but this gem manages it deftly. Fellow Travelers, an AU set before the Civil War, features a young Ezra Standish, fleeing his abusive uncle with the help of the slave Nathan. It manages to keep much of the team dynamic as they meet up with the rest of the Seven, and struggle to stay together no matter what happens, be it vengeful relatives, hoop snakes, or the law itself. J. Brooks has been featured here before, and it is much deserved, as her characterization is always spot-on, and her dialogue and descriptions are both accurate and funny. Her stories are never without humor, a must for Magnificent Seven. Fellow Travelers
