Why this must be read: For my first rec, I'm selecting one of my early favorites in the fandom. (Yes, I'm one of the HRs - but I'll be reccing a range of stories this month!) This is an episode based story from the second season, "Psychic Pilgrim." It must be read because it captures some of the intricacies of Section and its multiple agendas, along with the reactions of many characters, canon and original, to the first onscreen-sex between our star-crossed lovers that everyone else inside their universe also gets to watch unfold via hidden cameras. This story is also beautifully written.

02:37 am La Femme Nikita the Television Series Overview for February 2007
Hi, I'm the driver for La Femme Nikita the Television Series this month.

LFN, as it's fans know it, debuted in 1997 and ran for four and a bit (8 episodes) seasons. During the original airing it inspired a rush of fanfiction, and while the flood has long since tapered off, there is still a small active corps of fanfiction fen, and now that all the seasons are available on DVD the ranks seem to be growing again.

I initially offered to drive the LFN small fandom van in October of 2004(!) (I know - where does the time go?) and in the several computer moves since then lost whatever sad fandom summary I started writing. Realizing that if I waited to get the perfect overview written, February would be over before I recommended a single story, I'm beginning with a small overview which I plan to keep working on until it is complete, and then get on with the recs!

Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: House/Wilson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] isagel
Author Website: Drops of Moonlight
Why this must be read:

There's always something delicious about realizing that the first story you read in a fandom hasn't been recced yet here, like taking friends to your favorite sidewalk cafe in a foreign city. And while there are many stories that show the change in equilibrium as Wilson's relationship with House turns sexual, this is the only one I've seen so far that shows the side effects of Vicodin taking their toll as pleasure starts to mean more than just the absence of pain.

Then the infarction had struck, and he had seen Greg's body crumble. The effortless grace turned into a constant struggle, the forceful strides James had hurried to keep up with lost forever in the quagmire of pain that made every little step forward a battle as often lost as won. It had hurt to watch, and he hadn't known how to look away. Until one day he'd been walking his friend through the corridors of the hospital and, glancing at him, he had seen a rhythm, a flow to his steps that made his breath catch. A new kind of grace; shaped and contained by the limitations of the ruined leg, but grace nonetheless, as striking in its own way as what had been there before. That was the day he had started to keep an eye out for illnesses that couldn't be explained.

Fandom: HOUSE

Why this must be read:

I love this view of House and Wilson by a very new Chase, where the hits just keep coming...

To Chase's surprise, Wilson pulled out his wallet and extracted some bills from a side compartment. "You're in luck. Eleven was a bust, but I played the street and won with 12." House reached out to take the money, but Wilson slapped his hand away and gave it to Chase instead. "That should cover a couple of weeks worth of lunches," he said, winking.

"I'd count it, if I were you," House whispered conspiratorially. "You know how Jews are about money."

Chase flinched and nearly dropped the bills, but Wilson just shook his head, smirking indulgently. "I see the sensitivity training Cuddy sent you to has really paid off," he said dryly, and Chase tried to decide if Wilson actually was a saint, or if he was just a pushover. "I don't think that was one of her brighter ideas - putting you in a room for eight hours with assholes who actually mean the things they say. I can only imagine the material you gathered."

02:41 pm Four Emails Gibbs Never Sent (And One He Did)  (PG-13)
fandom: NCIS
pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/ Donald "Ducky" Mallard
author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lonelywalker
author website: World on a Wire

Last month  [livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow  recced Four Emails Gibbs Still Hasn't Read (And One He Has), also written by [livejournal.com profile] lonelywalker, which was a brilliant story.

Now, [livejournal.com profile] lonelywalker wrote another one, following up that fic. All things considered, we know that even though Gibbs is somewhat technophobe, he knows one and two things about technology. Even though he seems to be 'afraid' of it, he's doing it. The first time I read it it had me snickering all over, because this fic just screams "Gibbs!" and has a perfect characterisation. It works like a charm.

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Kara Thrace/Saul Tigh
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brandil
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: Saul is one of my favorite characters on BSG and Brandil has his characterization, along with Kara's, down pat. Set Post-"Exodus Part 2," this fic looks at how both Saul and Kara are dealing with the aftermath of New Caprica. Both of them work through their grief and anger and hatred for themsleves, each other, Adama, and people around them. This is possibly the most disturbing fic I've read and I'd read it again.
