Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Bart Allen/Tim Drake (Kid Flash/Robin)

Why this must be read:
Good Bart voice is hard to find, and it's excellent in this story--I laughed out loud repeatedly at this Teen Titans story.

01:25 am VID REC: QUEER AS FOLK UK - Brothers on a Hotel Bed
Vidder: [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24
Musical artist: Death Cab for Cutie
Pairing: Stuart/Vince
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24
Vidder's website: obsessive24.net
Why this vid kicks ass:

A great Stuart/Vince overview of the show, with emphasis, obviously, on the hotel bed scene from the second series. This vid also gives respect to the peripheral characters of the show: Nathan, Alexander, Hazel, and shows their struggles and the way that their lives revolve around and affect Stuart and Vince. Really, it's a can't miss.

10:26 am Ian by Beduini (R)
Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: Gossamer archive
Why this must be read:

This is unabashedly fluffy, guaranteed to make me smile and possibly give a little girly sigh at the end. And yet. Beduini's characterisation is again so perfect that it gives this fluff a depth and believability another author might not. I love it when authors take advantage of Mulder's past and use it for good rather than evil; i.e. they recognise that he had a life before the X Files. Ian is a friend from Oxford, come to DC as part of Tony Blair's administration. He looks up his old friend Mulder, meets the lovely Scully and hijinks ensue. You can pretty much guess what happens. But it's just so well done that you won't mind the cliche.

Leaning his elbows on the table, Ian studied his friend's face as the waitress returned with his change. "So, ...Scully."

Mulder's mouth curled up in a half-smile at the name. "So, ...Scully." He replied, taking another sip.

There was a gleam in Ian's eye. "You seem to have left out a bit of information on that subject, haven't you?"

"Such as...?"

"Well, you've told me about her skepticism and her sharp analytical mind, not to mention the fact that she's rescued your arse more than a few times. How frustrated you get when she doesn't readily accept your wild theories - how she keeps you grounded. But you neglected to mention one minor but very important point." Ian glared at Mulder.

Mulder had been nodding through Ian's narrative until the end. "And that would be...?" He said again, this time more pointedly as he stared at him.

"How bloody attractive she is, you sod."

10:09 pm Ante Bellum by astolat (R)
Fandom: KING ARTHUR (2004)
Pairing: Arthur/Lancelot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astolat
Author Website: Here
Why this must be read: This is a short but sweet post battle portrait of mid-service Arthur and Lancelot; they are still young but already poisoned by the dirty futility that is war.
It's essentially a PWP but the characterizations and dialog are so dead on that it reads like a piece of a book that you can't remember why you didn't finish. It does have the normal angst that fuels their relationship but it's not heartbreakingly sad like so much fic in this fandom.

Ante Bellum.

Enjoy this lovely and realistic portrait of love in war.

10:38 pm The Blue Jello Metaphor by Jennghis Kahn (PG-13)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Sam. Team. Hint at Sam/Jack
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast
Author Website: Mind Rot
Why this must be read:

In one of my all-time favorite Sam stories, Jenn gives a funny, affectionate look at a Sam who is just a little disgruntled about being smart (and the expectations that come with it), about being the girl, and about not being the girl. There's a nice touch of team love, too, with the guys stepping up and letting Sam know they love her for who she is.

10:47 pm Dangerous to Reason by Te (NC-17)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Tim/Bart
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thete1
Author Website: Teland

Why this must be read:
This story shows a thoughtful side to a maturing Bart. I especially like the Tim POV, and there are some basic truths about how messed up being part of the Bat family can be. Classic themes in DC fanfic, but Te takes it to a whole new level when she writes Tim.

11:30 pm Five Things That Never Happened to Xhalax Sun (R)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: Xhalax/Talyn with some Xhalax and Aeryn
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pellucid
Why this must be read:

Once, several cycles ago, she almost crashed her Prowler, caught in a planet's storm, gravity and atmosphere overcoming her skill. She lost control, tumbling helpless towards the planet, pulling up at just the last microt. She hates to fall.

This fic is a fascinating look at Aeryn's mother and where her choices have taken her - and where they haven't. I'm a big fan of the "five things" type of fics, and this one uses that device to great effect.
