06:59 am Tribe Sentinel by Annabelle Leigh (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: n/a (I think. If you know her LJ, please let me know and I'll edit this post)
Author Website: Fiction by the Sea
Why this must be read:

Jim and Blair discover other sentinels -- ones that *aren't* completely nuts. Blair being Blair, this leads to setting up a sentinel/guide support network and then, of course, getting kidnapped. Again. Unlike most stories in fandom that feature a significant number of sentinels, this isn't a slave AU. Instead it's a smart, well-written pair of stories that realistically looks at how a group of sentinels might interact with each other and with their world. The OCs are interesting and well-developed, the sentinel/guide mythology is plausible, and the developing romance between Jim and Blair is full of the angst and h/c we love so much. Excellent on every level.

10:06 am A Good Man by meddow (PG for this story; R for series overall)
Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [personal profile] meddow
Author Website: Fanfiction Masterlist on LJ
Why this must be read: The last time I drove the Pirates Crack Van, I recced [personal profile] meddow ’s The Admiral Series, which at the time consisted of two parts, The Admiral and The Truth of the Matter. [personal profile] meddow has now finished her trilogy with “A Good Man.”

In this fic, Norrington returns to Tortuga once more, post-Dead Man’s Chest, but now as an actual Admiral and with the intention of sending all pirates there to the gallows. In addition to dealing with the repercussions of James’s actions on those who he spent time with him during his Scruffington phase, “A Good Man” also explores James’s relationships with Beckett and Swann--as well as his futile search for honor. Additionally, [personal profile] meddow does an excellent job remembering the reputation Commodore Norrington had in the pirate world during CotBP—perhaps better than the actual creative team ever did.

01:50 pm More than Two Men by Derry (NC-17)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Characters/Pairing[s]: Dick/Tim (assigning hero names would be... oversimplifying)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown
Author Website: Gildy Clobber
Why this must be read:

Because it's a classic. I hadn't recced this before only because I was so certain it had been recced by someone already. I rarely say something like this, but this story is simply a classic of the fandom, and that's why it must be read.

01:53 pm Everything Zen by Zara Hemla (PG-13)
Fandom: GILMORE GIRLS
Pairing: Rory/Jess
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zarahemla
Author Website: http://if.sweetdarkness.net/
Why this must be read:

What I love about this story is how it blends all the things that are essential to the Gilmore world- the townies, the banter, Rory’s absolute sincerity- and places them in an entirely different context while maintaining their integrity. Everything Zen is told from Jess’ point of view and the writing has a gorgeously literary quality to it. It’s wonderfully detailed and has an off kilter sense of humor that really sells Jess’ frustration. What impresses me most though, is how in such a short story, [livejournal.com profile] zarahemla captures the best and worst of Jess so thoroughly.

05:29 pm The Love Song of Gabriel "Sylar" Gray by hackthis (R)
Fandom: Heroes
Pairing: Sylar/Mohinder
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: hackthis' LJ memories
Why this must be read:

I confess, I usually find Sylar too creepy to even read about at all, much less read about him having sex. But I sometimes take a chance with an author I trust, and WOW. This is chilling in its accuracy of the inner workings of Sylar's mind, and the writing is gorgeously sparse. Even if you don't like slash, even if the thought of Sylar having sex is just too creepy to contemplate, take a chance on this one. It is an AMAZING character study of both Sylar and Mohinder, and if you leave this story without being convinced that those two crazy kids didn't hook up at least once during their road trip ... well, I don't know that anything can!

06:26 pm The Alex Krycek Affair by Rose Campion (NC-17)
Fandom: X-Files
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek (and several other fun pairings)
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

Based on the movie The Thomas Crown Affair (with Pierce Brosnan), this fic is delightful. The retelling is fabulous (the first time I read the fic, I hadn't seen the movie yet, and still I got the whole grasp of it), with some wonderful art descriptions. The XF characters are well-placed within the storyline. The relationship that develops between Mulder and Krycek is fun, dangerous, flirty, and sexy. The other pairings are great as well.

The fic is funny, a little sad, and who doesn't love stories where everyone happens to be gay?
