Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] keelywolfe
Author Website: Keelywolfe's Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

Keelywolfe is an amazingly prolific, and amazingly good, writer who, after a period spent writing for other fandoms (shocking, I know) recently returned to the fold with "Auditory System", an oddly disturbing story that haunts your brain long after you've finished reading it. All of the other stories I've recced so far have been about UNCLE as a kind of "heile Welt" with Napoleon and Illya, for all their crises and angst and sexual frustrations, as fundamentally happy, functional human beings. This one is different. I wouldn't call it darkfic - it's much too subtle for that - but it's set in a rather ugly, seedy world, where Napoleon is carrying out a very sordid assignment, knowing full well that Illya is listening in via surveillance equipment. The story is more about what doesn't happen than what does, about failure to communicate and failure to connect, and it packs a far more powerful emotional punch than you'd expect from this attempt to describe it. It's also beautifully written and the characterisation, though rather bleak, is utterly convincing. I, for one, would be thrilled if she decided to write more in this vein.

Hi, I'm Gilly and I'm supposed to be driving the van for The Sentinel this month. A noxious combo of severe RL issues and an attack of tonsillitis currently laying me low means I'm off to a pretty late start. Sorry about that; I'll be posting a rec a day from now on to catch up - starting with Saraid's magnificent 'Panther Tales'.

Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing:
Jim and Blair
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Saraid's fanfiction

Why this must be read:

I love a good AU; the more extraordinary and angsty the better, and this is, imo, one of the strangest and angstiest out there. Jim and Blair have been abducted, tortured and escaped. Both are severely damaged, Blair especially is a weird shadow of his former self. Working together, they use their Sentinel-Guide link as high-paid mercenaries for hire as they search for the ones who destroyed their lives.

Intense and beautifully bizarre; National Security is the first in a series of stories in which Jim and Blair’s tragic story unfolds like a flower.

Even though I am all about the Snarry side of fandom, my second favorite pairing is Ron/Draco, so you will be getting a few of those stories in the next week or so to balance out the Snape/Harry.

Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] exitsign
Author Website: Girl Called Jane

Why this must be read: because a complex love/hate relationship is extremely hot - if written well - and Ron and Draco have always had the hate part down pat, but what about the love bit?

All the great couples on television and in literature (for me at least) have always had a fiery bickering relationship. Maddie and David from Moonlighting, McKay and Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis, Kate and Petruchio from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and lastly, Ron and Draco from Harry Potter.

It's true what they say about opposites attracting.

So while these two men despise each other in the books and movies, the author in this story explores the concept of what would happen if you were forced by circumstance to live with your childhood enemy and what could happen if those passionate feelings of hate turned into something else?

So wonderfully deft and brilliant is Jane's writing, I know that by the end of Sea Change you will be rooting for Ron to win Draco's love and another fan of the Ron/Draco pairing.

Apologies for slacking off - going to catch up as quickly as possible...

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kelly_girl
Author Website: Kelly_girl's stories @ MTAC
Why this must be read:

One of the first things that becomes apparent about NCIS (well... apart from the overabundance of chemistry generated by the principal cast. Not to mention eyecandy for all ages and tastes;)) is the relationship between Jethro Gibbs and Tony DiNozzo.

It is fair to call it a slasher's dream pairing. Hell, even with the inclusion of certain 'elements' in the season four (the last to be aired. season five starts in September '07), there is no denying the frisson between these two men. Case in point: the mens room scene in 'Blowback'. Which leads me to reccing both this story and the next one I want to rec.

[livejournal.com profile] kelly_girl does the near impossible with this story. Gets inside Gibbs' head and makes it look easy in the process (don't mind me - just incredibly jealous). The plot is simple - Gibbs reflecting on his work and relationship with his Senior Field Agent. It looks at just what Gibbs wants and why he cannot have it. Yes, there is angst, but it feels 'right', very much in character and does both men justice.

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Ianto/Jack
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dew_chan
Author Website: None
Why this must be read:

Jack and Ianto after Lisa. This story is bitter and angry and it doesn’t end in love. It ends with an understanding, with the beginning of a recovery, and with Jack and Ianto being closer than before. It’s utterly convincing, as it doesn’t ignore Ianto’s anger and his promise to watch Jack die and includes some morbidly beautiful images.
