Fandom: NCIS
Pairing:
Gibbs/DiNozzo
Author on LJ:
Author Website: www.visionsofprettyboys.com

Why this must be read: I have talked about this full-length case!fic to more non-fandom people than anything I have ever read.  It almost doesn’t matter that this is an NCIS fic, because the greater emphasis is on the overall story.  Lady Ra has woven together timeless themes of Good/Love v. Evil/Hatred, making reference to classic examples, partly through Tony’s movie quotes, but also iconic images.   That being said, the NCIS crew are in character—gruff, flirtatious, exuberant, diligent, suspicious, insightful, and above all—dedicated to their jobs/callings.

Her writing draws you in right from the start:

06:23 pm Five Days' Journey Into Night by MAC (PG13)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: Chris/Ezra
Author on LJ:Unknown
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

MAC is one of my favourite authors simply because she can weave a tale that keeps me wanting more. But what I really like are the short little snapshots and PWP's that she produces every so often. My favourite fics are first-time's but this little snippet is one of those established relationships where one half has been away for a few days and returns. Short, sappy, but very cute, and sometimes you just want cute :)

07:36 pm Flashbacks by Melody Wilde (PG-15)
Fandom: MISCELLANEOUS JOHNNY DEPP MOVIES (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
Pairing: Wonka/Charlie
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] melodywilde
Author Website: at fanfiction.net
Why this must be read: Wowowowow! This was just posted today. SUCH a good read! It's Charlie's 16th birthday, and Wonka wants to know why he's been so unhappy. In a series of flashbacks we learn about Charlie's life at school after winning the contest, and about Wonka's childhood and unlucky attempts at love. Wonderful piece.

CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY at IMDB

"He smiled. “I know I’m a little...I’m not like other people. But I’ve tried to do the right thing by you—to be your friend and your teacher and your mentor. But now that you’re sixteen, I think things need to change.”
...

“You said my Chocolate Room was beautiful. You understood that there’s not supposed to be any point to candy. And I knew I’d picked the right one.”

09:56 pm Concurrence by Kamil and chelle (NC-17)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Duncan/Methos
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kamilaa and [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle
Author(s) Websites: Kamil's Site and chelle's Nightstand

Why this must be read: because after years of sexual tension that builds and builds between the two men, Kamil and chelle unleash all of that in this wonderfully hot PWP that has Duncan and Methos finally making love in a bookstore. Sizzling, steaming and the banter...one of the best PWPs in the fandom.

Originally released in the zine, Futures Without End IV, so there is some beautiful artwork to go with this story.

10:10 pm A Matter of Trust by Moonshayde (PG)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Daniel/Vala
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] moonshayde
Author Website: Scribal Traditions
Why this must be read: Vala is a hard character to get right. Moonshayde takes a look at Vala early in season 10, at her struggles to reconcile the changes that have come about because of her year in the Ori galaxy, and her time with SG1. This story is about Daniel and Vala, but, while I love Daniel/Vala, it's Vala's characterization that stands out for me. I've rarely read a story that rings so true as to Vala's struggle to integrate into SG1. It's an absolutely lovely little story.

10:44 pm Still Waters by Audrey (PG)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: can be read as gen or slash (or even glash or slen!)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] aesposito
Author Website: Audrey’s stories can be found here, here, and here

Why this must be read:

Hutch’s dad is often cast as a villain in Starsky & Hutch fanfic, and has inflicted every form of abuse on his son other than cannibalism (so far). So, it’s refreshing to read a story where Hutch’s father is just a regular guy struggling to understand and support his son. What’s more, Audrey persuasively tells her story from the elder Hutchinson’s point-of-view, thereby providing new insights into Hutch and the family he left behind in Duluth.

Overall, Still Waters is a moving tale, told with subtlety and grace, of the repercussions of violence, and of the importance of love.
