Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: Cuddy/Cameron
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] modernsaints
Author Website: none listed

Why this must be read:

Meth!Cameron is a popular scenario in the fandom, and here [livejournal.com profile] modernsaints uses the same scenario - Chase's phone is busy, and so Cameron calls Cuddy instead. [livejournal.com profile] modernsaints writes gorgeous prose, and a gorgeous Cameron who's a little lonely and a little desperate. Oh, and so very hot!

03:08 pm Pascal's Wager by prufrock's love (PG-13)

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Increasing Workplace Productivity
Why this must be read: Prufrock's love does an amazing job yet again in this fine example of the Mulder-returns-post-Requeim genre. There's an insecure, insomniac and not-too-together Mulder, a baby that came out of nowhere and Scully trying to take care of it all, plus the return of the shape shifting aliens and some good mytharc. This is an incredibly rich and detailed story that I'm still reading over and over again, because it's just that good.

03:40 pm Mind Games by Spider (NC-17)

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: spider's gossamer page
Why this must be read: This is a really long and utterly fascinating story about profiler!Mulder and his spooky abilities. Turns out he has 'latent psychic ability to communicate and "mirror" serial killers.' You'll see what that means. Pretty graphic at some points, but worth the read because it's so darn interesting.

03:51 pm Covenants, Contracts & Restrictions by Suzanne Schramm (NC-17)

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Suzanne's gossamer page
Why this must be read: During Arcadia, Mulder asks Scully to stop being so uptight. He also gives her a foot massage. Three guesses as to what ensues. Great missing scene for Arcadia, and pretty hot.

09:21 pm Tending the Garden by Azdak (G)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: none; gen
Author on LJ: azdak
Why this must be read:

One of the joys of Man from U.N.C.L.E. is that the agents are so well-traveled and the format is so flexible that MFU stories can be transposed to practically any setting or genre.

In this light-hearted piece, we find Illya in a veddy English setting, working as a gardener at a posh manorhouse. His mission is to steal a list of Thrush contacts tucked away in his Lordship’s safe, but first he must maneuver dotty old Lady Dalrymple into helping him.

And what better way to charm her than to intrigue her with hints of a noble Russian past?

Like any proper English mystery, this one delivers a nice twist at the end, but not before it has presented us with an array of literary and canon references, like sweet little biscuits on a tray.

Another cup of tea, dear?

10:01 pm Descent by Cobalt (NC17)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: Chris/Ezra
Author on LJ:Unknown
Author Website: Cobalt
Why this must be read:

Cobalt's fic makes me very happy. The tales are well spun, the characterisation spot on, and the sex is just plain hot. This is one her longer fics, twinned with angst and misunderstandings that all come together eventually to a satisfying conclusion. Chris is trying to deny his feelings and urges, trying to protect, and trying to finally put to bed the issue of Ella Gaines.

10:04 pm Hot Sky Blue by Livia, Julad & Calico (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] julad, [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico, [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn
Author Website: ambivalentpleasures, calico’s lair, livia’s library
(If anyone can advise on a more up-to-date site for livia, please let me know.)

Why this must be read: This is a five-star PWP that, like all the best of the genre, gives the reader an insight into the characters involved.

The story is one long present-tense fantasy from a first-person pov and no names are mentioned right until the end.

All of this helps create two impressions: firstly, an immediacy and involvement that pulls you right there into the story. Yet simultaneously there’s also a sense of detachment and distance through objectification that might be experienced in a sexual fantasy – or by an anthropologist observing a ritual.

But that all sense of distance melts away in the last four sentences.

A little taste... )

The writing is wonderful throughout. It’s also hotter than hell.
