03:22 pm SPIDER BITES ON ALL YOUR LOVERS BY MELYMBROSIA (NC-17)
Hello! I'm [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster and I'm going to be your Supernatural driver for the month of September! I have been waiting a LONG TIME for this and I plan to take full advantage of my time in the driver's seat. In fact, I am SO EXCITED, I'm posting this on vacation!

As you may know, Supernatural fandom contains a lot of incest fic. However, I plan to bring gen and even some het as well as the 'cest. So welcome to my house, buckle up tight!

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Dean/Crossroads Demon (het)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] untrue_accounts
Author Website: Inauthentic Prototype
Why this must be read: This is not really a story for the timid. In addition to a pretty hefty array of kinks (demons don't do vanilla), it's a sharp and somewhat bleak story about a demon with an axe to grind for one Dean Winchester. And like any good villain, she takes her time about it.

More than the dark, erotic tone is the way the author looks out through the demon's eyes and vivisects Dean into cold, brutal slices that chill and fascinate while simultaneously making your heart ache. It's a gorgeous creepfest of a story that leaves you reeling and thinking about it for a long time afterward. Check it out:

Hi! I'm Suz, and I'm driving the Queer as Folk: US van this month. I love Brian/Justin and hate any character/pairing bashing of any kind. I'm very happy to be sharing the QAF love - I'm another one who's posting recs while she's on vacation :D

Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK: US
Pairing: Brian/Justin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bigboobedcanuck
Author Website: LJ memories
Why this must be read: This was one of the first fics I ever read in this fandom, and still remains one of my absolute favourites.

I'm not going to quote from it because it's quite short, but it's very powerful and one of the surprisingly few fics that deals with the possible consequences of casual drug use frequently seen in the show and in its fic. That should probably give you some warning about the content of the fic, too. There's nothing graphic, but it is quite shocking. Or I thought it was anyway ;)

Highly recommended. Angst.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ:http://spikedluv.livejournal.com/

Why this must be read:

Known sentinels and guides, required bonding, red-hot sex, mistaken identities? Man, oh, man, this reads like a bit of lusciously kinked-out Jane Austen.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] ishafel, and I'll be reccing HP fic for September. I have some great post-Deathly Hallows recs for you, so be aware that these recs may contain spoilers.

Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: none; George, Verity--gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain
Author Website: Fic on FictionAlley

Why this must be read: This is a brief and lovely look at George Weasley after the war. It's bittersweet, but not bleak; it very much gives the feeling that life goes on, if imperfectly. There's no melodrama here, no hysterics: that's this story's greatest strength. It's the best possible outcome for the character and the situation.

"Tattered posters advertising U-No-Poo still fluttered from the front of the shop. One window had been smashed; it was a testimony to the fear that had kept even thieves out of Diagon Alley that most of the merchandise was still intact."

07:27 pm Coda to an Epilogue: Twenty Years Later, Or The Kids Are All Right, by mistful (PG13)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: none; Harry, Draco, gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mistful
Author Website: Maya's website

Why this must be read: I suspect many of you have read this story already. If you haven't--it builds on the events of the epilogue, only better. No sentimentality, no romance. This is the finish JKR should have written and didn't, the one in which there are no happy endings or great tragedies, only people growing older, learning to live with who and what they are and what they've done.

“I want to be absolutely clear on this,” Harry said. “You’re telling me that you lost my children in the sewers?”

Professor Araminta von Bosau, headmistress of Durmstrang, looked confused and distressed by how badly Harry was taking this.

“Does this happen often in Durmstrang?” Harry demanded.

“Every now and then,” Professor von Bosau said. She looked up at Harry’s face and added quickly: “It’s very regrettable, of course.”

“They’ve been gone for twenty-four hours and you haven’t sent a search party after them!”

Professor von Bosau gave him a reproachful look. “Be reasonable, Mr Potter. My staff are extremely busy and besides that, what use would they be against giant alligators?”

“Yes, about that,” Harry said between his teeth. “Why does Durmstrang have giant alligators in its sewers?”

“I’m sure I don’t know. Why does Hogwarts have giant spiders in its environs? These things happen.” Professor von Bosau was starting to look distinctly miffed. “Mr Potter, I understand that you’re upset-”

07:27 pm The Years That Walk Between, by femme (NC17)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Snape/Draco, Harry/Draco
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic
Author Website: Femme's fic on Skyehawke

Why this must be read: This is the world, after the war has ended; this is a generation learning to live with love, and loss, and the world moving on. It's beautifully written, and even more beautifully paced, and it feels very natural, very real.

"He's dead," Narcissa says quietly, touching his arm, and Draco's throat tightens. He stops in the middle of the Hogwarts corridor, just outside the Headmaster's office, and he looks at her. He won't believe Potter, would never believe Potter because Potter can't know—would never know—but Mother--

07:27 pm The Pandora Incident, by Abstract Concept (R)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Harry/ Snape
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] the_con_cept
Author Website: Fic on LJ

Why this must be read: This is the kind of story that I think you need to be entirely unspoiled for. There's nothing I could say that would prepare you for something this funny and clever anyway.

Everything was very sombre. Well, Harry reckoned it was supposed to be that way—it was, after all, a grave. There was a crypt with a statue and it would be rather inappropriate if the place were choked with daisies or covered with rainbow decals or something. Still, Harry couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous.

07:27 pm Is That a Decoy Detonator in Your Pocket, Or are you Happy to See Me?, by rose-whispers (NC17)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing:Severus Snape/ George Weasley
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rose_whispers
Author Website: Fic on LJ
Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] painless_j recced this story this evening, and as soon as I saw the title I knew that I had to read it. And it more than lives up to its promise. This isn't a pairing or a scenario I would have imagined, but it's wonderful, hot and sweet and funny and beautifully told.

When George Weasley was a boy, he and his twin used to lay awake at night and tell each other about the future. Not through Divination, of course-- they both thought that to be a load of graphorn dung and had never bothered taking classes with Trelawney. No, they didn't use tea leaves or tarot cards. They used their imaginations. Rather than interpreting dream symbols, they spun dreams for each other, dreams that were so palpable and so beautifully adventurous that they both had no trouble believing them.

07:27 pm The Road Less Travelled, by scoradh (PG13)
My last rec for the month. Thank you, all of you, for reading.
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: mostly gen (post-epilogue generation)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] scoradh
Author Website: Fic on LJ
Why this must be read: This is kid-fic, and I never meant to read it. My taste runs to grownups, and to drama, and to tragedy. And yet. This story is pretty irresistible. It's reminiscent of the books in the way that few fanfics are; it actually reads like a children's story, which is a pretty amazing accomplishment. It's well written, it's engaging, it's long and plotty and the characters in it are real kids who act like real kids.

The long squeal of the train's whistle jerked Albus out of his reverie. He'd been standing on one of the toilets, trying to peer through the two-inch square window for a last glimpse of his parents and little sister. His eyes felt hot and prickly, but he was determined not to cry. James could spot red-rimmed eyes from a mile off, and no sliver of sympathy for his brother's plight would stop him teasing Albus for the next month and a half.

Hi everyone! I'm [livejournal.com profile] severuslovesme, your Battlestar Galactica reccer for the month of September. I like a wide variety of pairings and genres, so hopefully I'll rec some things that y'all will enjoy!

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brynnmck
Author Website: Brynn's Home Page

Why this must be read:
This story is from mid-Season 2, so it's a little out-of-date canon wise, but I think the themes of friendship and love are entirely relevant even now. Ship to Ship was one of the first fics I read in BSG fandom, and it's still one of my favorites. It's humorous and light without being too fluffy. If you like pilots at all, definitely check it out!

Hi, I’m Penknife and I’ll be driving the Pirates of the Caribbean van for September. I'll be focusing on some of the fabulous stories that have been written in the wake of AWE, although I may throw some older work into the mix as well.

Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN
Pairing: Will Turner/James Norrington
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] termagantwrites
Author Website: termagant
Why this must be read:

This is a lovely take on a scenario that's been itching to be written in the wake of AWE, in which Will takes James aboard the Flying Dutchman and James decides he's in no hurry to leave. The quiet, unhurried way that James feels his way back to himself in this story is really well-done, and it's entirely believable when he and Will eventually drift closer.
