Sorry for the delay between recs folks... school took a bit more time than expected.

Why this must be read:

The first chapter alone is enough to rec this story. The character who's point of view it is told from is usually seen as the savior, always in control of the situation, so it is a refreshing change to see him in a situation beyond his control and scared.

Beyond the first chapter the story grows to show a side of the Asguard not shown in the series, and for that reason, I am reccing this story.

Why this must be read:

I have a soft spot for stories written from either a secondary character's POV, or from an original character's POV. This story, written from the POV of an original female character, is one of my favorites. This story, related to the S1 ep, The Fix, of course, the reader watches Hutch's slide back into addiction and Starsky's struggle to get him out again. We come to an amazing understanding of Hutch's pain, Starsky's love and concern, and most of all, what they're both in for in the future, all through Brandy's thoughts, observations, judgments, behavior, and most of all, her compassion. Her understanding of what she's seeing in Hutch and Starsky come from her own experiences in a world that she knows Hutch doesn't belong to. She's an amazingly appealing character, thanks to her flaws and her good heart, and her distinctive voice that's clear and true.

There are a million other reasons why you should read this story. I don't have to list them. You'll know them once you've read it. But pay special attention to the period details, the brilliance of the characterizations of both the known and the new characters, the descriptive passages, and sad/funny tone throughout. This story is flawless.

I specifically wanted to drive the crackvan this month, because I knew this story would be timing out and available online. It's a true work of art, and I wanted to be the one to rec it. It was originally published in the zine Blood and Destiny, produced by Kassidyrae.

Why this must be read: This story's just fantastic. It's THE Jack/Jack story, for me. It's the one that hits all the points that I want hit - the emotion, the pain, the characters - everything. It plays with time travel, and it makes it make sense. Just a nice, elegantly written, story.

10:08 pm Morning Will Come by Jedi-Princess-Solo (PG-13)
Hello! I'm Malabud, and I will once again be driving the Crack Van for Star Wars this month. Just to let everyone know, Star Wars lacks future drivers. If no one signs up after me, Star Wars may be discontinued as a full-time fandom here at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van. If you have some favorite Star Wars stories that haven't been recommended yet, sign up! Without you, the SW crack van will run out of gas at the end of the month!

And now, on to the recs....

Fandom: STAR WARS PT
Pairing: Gen
Length: 2,300 words

Author Website: Jedi-Princess-Solo's Fanfiction.net Profile

Why this must be read:

Just what did Obi-Wan spend his time doing during those nineteen long years between the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope? I think he probably watched over Luke, until Owen drove him away from the farm. Otherwise, I suspect that he spent a lot of his time brooding. Nineteen years is a long time to go over all the things one ought to have done differently, after all.

This fic depicts a ghostly Qui-Gon speaking to an unhearing, brooding Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon does not remonstrate his former apprentice, but he does have some wise words for him. Trouble is, Obi-Wan cannot hear them. The fic is short, but it's a lovely read. Qui-Gon sounds like himself: calm, wise, and good. Jedi-Princess-Solo has written several fics along this vein; that is, monologues by one character speaking to another character who cannot hear the first. Each one is delightful in its own way. But this one is especially good. So go, read, and enjoy.
