12:05 am Heatwave, Walls, All Things, by Todd F (PG-13)
Fandom: EMERGENCY!
Pairing: various gen
Author on LJ: unknown

Why this must be read:

After I recced the Sedentary slash series earlier today, it brought to mind another three-story series (gen this time) that I would be remiss in forgetting.

In Heatwave, Walls and All Things, author Todd F. takes hurt/comfort many steps beyond the basics, digging deeply into the psychologies of the men of Station 51 as they interact with each other, the fire service and the world around them. They live, they love, they get hurt, and they heal... often becoming better people in the process.

Todd varies POV, style, dialogue, and use of canon details to make all three stories distinct, yet part of a wonderful whole.  Keep an eye out for how he develops secondary characters as well -- his Brice/Stoker fanon is fascinating.

08:56 am Sleeping Habits by ketchupblood [NC17]
Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Pairing: [Seigaku] Tezuka Kunimitzu/Fuji Syusuke
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ketchupblood
Website: n/a
Rating: [NC17]

[livejournal.com profile] ketchupblood's soft-focus gaze at Tezuka's and Fuji's shift from friends to lovers is so free of angst and issues that readers are left with a profound sense of how normal the whole process is. There's nothing fraught or disturbing here, just satisfaction over sharing warmth with someone whom one loves and trusts enough to feel comforted by on cold, blustery nights, and the possibilities of where that might lead. The author has a gift for conveying kindness and true friendship in her characterizations, which brings readers to the point that style is grand, but having something to say with style is better.

10:21 am Vesalius by Salieri (PG)
Fandom: SLINGS AND ARROWS
Pairing: Gen (Geoffrey, Oliver, Charles)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] troyswann
Author Website: Outside the Box
Why this must be read: It's a brilliant AU take on a plot element in the third season.

This story riffs off of the conversation between Oliver and Charles in Charles's hotel room. It reads entirely like the show: I heard every bit of dialogue in my head, I saw every bit of staging. And in my head I was going, oh my GOD oh my GOD, as I realized where the story was going.

01:07 pm Dreams in Dreams by azuredamsel (PG)
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam Tyler/Annie Cartwright
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] azuredamsel
Author Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived)
Why this must be read:

This glorious little piece was written for the [livejournal.com profile] ficalbum challenge. There are spoilers for both series, as well as the very last episode.

This fic details Annie's reflections on Sam's actions throughout the two series. All those little crazy moments that Annie doesn't comment on in the show are now laid bare with sparse prose and to the tune of a breaking heart.

01:46 pm Songvid Oddities: Stargate: Atlantis Multi-fandom AU - Petty Theft
Vidder: SandraInTheSun
Musical artist: David Holmes
Pairing: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sandrainthesun
Vidder's website: Vid Tag
Why this vid kicks ass: I love crime capers; they are just made of awesome -- the snark, the cunning plans, the comedy arising out of things going wrong, the twist ending. What's not to love? This songvid has all of that... but wait! There's more! You see, this particular crime caper is an AU of Stargate Atlantis, and stars John Sheppard, Rodney McKay and Laura Cadman, transplanted to Vegas a la Ocean's Eleven. "Petty Theft" has sharp, clever editing, John and Rodney having sex, sleazy paisley shirts, the team being competent, and the most kick ass use of crime-caper music. *happy sigh* *goes to re-watch*

04:19 pm Inform On Your Neighbor by anniesj (PG-13)
Fandom: FAKE NEWS RPF
Pairing: Jon/Anderson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anniesj
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] anniesj's memories
Why this must be read:

I thought I'd rec a happy little ficlet since it's Christmas Eve, a quite hectic time for everyone. Anderson visits The Daily Show and gives Jon some government cigarettes from Baghdad. Jon actually smokes them and muses on how ridiculous they both were in the interview. What I love about this is that [livejournal.com profile] anniesj gets Jon's voice nailed; I can really hear him in my head.

Happy Christmas!

Fandom: THE HISTORY BOYS
Pairing: gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] orangesparks
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] orangesparks
Why this must be read:

The title nails it: it's all about being just barely on the brink of something, and waiting for someone to make a move, and not sure which way everything's going to fall out. Scripps POV, and we all know how miserable he is at actually ever taking action, but Posner's there and maybe, maybe. Plus a really embittered Dakin, behaving exactly how one might expect a peevish Dakin to behave.
