Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: None Author Website: Tara LJC's Fanfiction LibraryWhy this must be read:We know that the Time Lords were wiped out by the Time War. But what exactly does that mean? He doesn't tell her that he'd muttered an apology, and fled to the opposite end of the galaxy where he'd begun combing through the future history of the revised timeline, desperate to understand how the wounds in space and time had healed over without a single scar. Without a single mention of an unearthly dark-haired girl who had once travelled far from home with her grandfather. To whom he had promised to return, one day. He'd wandered at first, searching for signs of his previous existence. But if they existed, they existed now only in the memory of a timeline his own actions had obliterated. Children who now had never been born laughed in his memory. Enemies had been wiped out at the same time as trusted friendships. Dozens, hundreds of lives diverged, friends and enemies dying or living all because they had never met him. All the good he had done had been simply erased. As had all the harm. A clean slate might have been what he had wished for, once. But not at this cost.Sins of Omission

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Nine/Rose/Jack Author on LJ: diannelamercWhy this must be read:Now and again it happens in fandom that one person writes a story and another person takes that idea and goes to town. In this case, an adventure in New Orleans opens up possibilities between the Doctor and his companions, but what's great about this series is that it isn't all smooth sailing -- there's infinitely more opportunity for misunderstanding and hurt feelings between three people than between two, and sometimes it takes a lot of hard work to get where you want to be. Jack clearly knew he and the Doctor were in the doghouse, but being Jack he had to try to charm his way out. "Tomorrow morning it's apparently horse races, or something like that," he offered. "Then the big ceremony and then we can... go." He faltered a little, when he realized what he was saying, but no one around who had heard him seemed to take any offense. Rose just nodded again, indifferently. She'd just discovered that one of the goblets in front of her held something that tasted a bit like lemonade, but promised all the kick of serious alcohol. "You know that's actually pretty strong stuff...." Jack trailed off his warning at her look. She deliberately took another big swig of it, just managing not to choke on the burning in her throat.
Jack's next look -- to the Doctor, probably for back-up -- was entirely in vain. The Doctor was all smiles and toasts and small talk with the local chieftains. Jack's next look at her was that of a man who knew he should stop while ahead, but wasn't going to. "They say the rooms are pretty much the same on both sides of the palace. Lots of silk and pillows?" He checked with a grin, apparently assuming he was on safe enough ground.
"Lovely," she agreed, without the smile. She toyed with another bit of roast meat on her plate. "Nice big bed. Nothing but silk and pillows. All to myself."Baiting, by LizbetannLet the Good Times Roll, by Dianne LamercFrustration, by Dianne LamercMaking Amends, by Dianne LamercThree by Three, by Dianne Lamerc

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Nine/Rose Author on LJ: casiraficsWhy this must be read:Why the Doctor never lets things go too far with Rose. He turned away then, the words coming to an abrupt stop. Rose didn't seem to notice why he had; she was still mulling his information over, looking into empty space as her thoughts clicked down and sorted. In fact, he'd focused back entirely on his task when she tilted her head and said, in a remarkably arch sort of tone, "Got two of anything else, then?"
His hand almost slipped on the console.
"Oh, do tell," Rose said, grinning.
He gave her a look. "I've got two of plenty of things," he said, his voice held carefully level. "Eyes, lungs, kidneys -- same as you."
"Mmm-hmm."
"Symmetry is good," he said, and pointed. "Rose, if you don't mind, I need that display behind you."
She ignored him. "How about those things I don't have?" she prompted, her expression tilting toward impish.Pulse

Fandom: HOUSE Pairing: Cuddy/House implied Author on LJ: goddesspharoAuthor Website: Author's LJ House tagWhy this must be read:Because it's so deliciously funny. This is a wonderfully light-hearted look at the havoc House (and Wilson) can wreak on Cuddy's attempts at dating. The banter is witty and practically perfect. House's machinactions, Wilson's reluctance, and Cuddy's (not quite) long-suffering acceptance of same are all very much in character. The friendship and humour between the three is deftly portrayed, as is the ending: sweet, but not without its own bite. All in all this is a gloriously fun fic. Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Author on LJ: none Author Website: http://meandthee.shahrazad.net/search.phpWhy this must be read:It’s three or four months after “Sweet Revenge,” close living is driving them both crazy and the two of them are working out the details of just what they mean to each other. Beautiful. “Hutch even put everything away to avoid having to go on to something else. He felt highly charged, an electrical circuit, every time his fingers would brush Starsky's soapy ones when he took a clean dish to dry. This truly was a soapy scene, and the weirdness of it made him laugh. "What?" Starsky finished by wiping down the countertop and stove. "Nothing, it was one of those strange thoughts that gets stuck in your head." We Can Never Go Back to Before

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Fraser/OFC (Fraser/Rae Kowalski), Fraser/Kowalski Author on LJ: isiscoloAuthor Website: http://hieroglyfics.net/Why this must be read:There aren't many genderbender stories out there who don't play it just for fun or for sex (or both). This story deals with Rae Kowalski, who has always been a woman, swapping the body with Ray Kowalski. "due South" had always a slight magical feeling to it, so it doesn't feel to constructed or unbelievable. With over 50,000 words, the story takes its time exploring the differences between Rae and Ray and their relationship to Fraser. The sex, when it happens doesn't feel forced and the tension has been slowly built up to it. A very engaging story, which can make you think without being either too preachy or meta-ish.

Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: none Author on LJ: hossgalAuthor Website: hossgal's fic homepage Why this must be read: Rygel has a conversation with Crichton. One of those rare moments of solemnity and introspection for the little guy. "Well, Sparky, I'd say glad to be here, but I'm not. And you're not coming to the point. What's up?" "Perhaps I only wanted a conversation, with a friend." "You don't have any of those here? I must have passed half a million little green guys between the driveway and your door." "I am Dominar. I have servants, syncopates, simpering concubines and scheming advisers. I do not have friends." But For Grace

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Casey McCall/Dan Rydell Author on LJ: missdeviantAuthor Website: None known Why this must be read: The last rec I made on here was for a fic by torchthisnow. This fic is a companion piece to another of hers, Time Grabs You By The Wrist. That fic is from Dan Rydell's point of view: three times Casey McCall was the best friend anybody could have. This one tells Casey's side of the story. Through his eyes we see Dan as an almost unpleasantly cocky young intern, gradually learning what lies behind the brash façade; we get a glimpse of Casey's own life, his unhappy marriage, and how his friendship with Dan contributes to that; there's a brief, flurried bout of drunk, impossible, heartbreaking sex; and there's enduring friendship, seamed through with a rich vein of love. On Christmas Eve, Casey learned about Sam and the accident. He listened to the words spill out of Danny's lips. As the thin sounds of Christmas carols floated over the porch, he wished that he could wrap his hands around Danny's heart, to mend what was broken.Landlocked Blues

Fandom: Heroes Pairing: NA Author on LJ: hackthis Author Website: http://www.obsessedmuch.net/dysfunctional/Why this must be read:Honestly, this is actually the part where I warn, if you have any real problems with sap, do no venture hence. On the other hand, if sap is what you're into, as well as MachiavellianBaby!Nathan, come on in. There's also Peter and some ducks, but mainly it's Nathan, using his fledgling powers(not the flying ones, the political ones) to make life better for Peter. And also, you can hate Peter as much as you like, but if the kid!Peter in this fic doesn't make you, "AW!", you have no soul. http://hackthis.livejournal.com/425170.html

Fandom: Heroes Pairing: Matt/Mohinder Author on LJ: 00smutAuthor Website: from the heavens...Why this must be read:Heartbreakingly little story, set after the Season 2 Finale, the M3 that dares not speak its name. It's Mohinder and the company, Mohinder and Molly, and a hole where Matt should be. The entire story keeps your dangling off a cliff until the end, wondering where Matt is and when he'll be back where he should be. Of Cabbages And Kings

Fandom: RPF (SCI FI TV) Pairing: Torri Higginson/Joe Flanigan Author on LJ: anrAuthor Website: angst n' romance Why this must be read:So to be clear, the first kiss in this story actually happened, though possibly it didn't spark a torrid affair. A hot, Torri-d affair. One of the fun things about the sci-fi actorfic fandom, or un-fun things depending on your point of view, is that most of the players are old married with kids, so the spouses either have to be incorporated into the story or fanwanked into this happy, magical land where no one really believes in monogamy. As much as that place sounds like a fabulous spot to move to, Atlantis RPF for whatever reason produces a lot of door number one. And it is traumatic and angsty and results in much pining and longing and manly self-denial. This author is one of our queens of that sub-genre, and this is one of my favourites of hers. She giggles, and says, "sorry," as he does, probably assuming the touch is her fault, so he doesn't really think it counts as a kiss even if he can smell pineapple and rum and Torri in the moments before she's out of reach and gone. Fandom: RPF (SCI FI TV) Pairing: David Hewlett/Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett/Jane Author on LJ: ideal_girlAuthor Website: memories Why this must be read:Fits into the angst-and-realism category to the point of utter, utter depression. So you'll either love it or hate it, but if you love it, it's brilliant. Fast-talking David, outsider Joe - the characterisations make you want to reach right into the story and hug everybody. And there are cameos by the whole gang, Torri and Rachel and Rainbow, drinking and gossiping, which will cheer you right up. If Joe does show up, it's for a perfunctory round of beer, his car service idling on the curb, and his jacket still on.
Torri thinks it's pretty lame, but David thinks that he's just got his priorities straight. Jane thinks he's just too serious, and Rachel thinks there's more to Joe than they know. House Rules
