Fandom: Stargate SG-1/Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Gen
Length: Long
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ffutures

Why this must be read:

It's a long enjoyable read with a good plot and good characterizations. I liked how the author brought both worlds together. I especially liked the look at the Buffy universe through the eyes of SG-1.

07:09 pm Song of Experience by Sanyin (PG-13)
Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] eledhwenlin and I'm your due South reccer for March. I'm sorry to have to start my tenure late, but RL interfered. I'll concentrate on newer stories and try to have some variety in here.

Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: 6k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sanyin
Author Website: Sanyin’s fic index
Why this must be read:

I must admit, I’m a sucker for kidfic. But this is one of the most outstanding examples of it. Sanyin manages to pull it off wonderfully – B really does seem like she is Ray and Stella’s kid, she mixes both of her parents’ quirks. She seems real, so much that one is almost wondering which episode it was that she appeared in.
The story is both funny and serious at the same time – it’s set during Strange Bedfellows.

07:27 pm Masquerade by Slidellra and Omphale23 (NC-17)
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: 37k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] slidellra and [livejournal.com profile] omphale23
Author Website: Slidellra’s fic index and Omphale23’s fic index
Why this must be read:

This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] ds_harlequin challenge, which turned out a lot of very good fic. It’s a due South remake of the movie Charade with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. But even if you don’t know the movie, the story works.

Ray, clueless and twice as belligerent because of that, is written believable and, for those who care, this story also features a very, very nice Ray/Volpe scene. Fraser is wonderfully intransparent and for a long time you’re wondering whether he is friend or foe. I’ve been better entertained by this than by many mainstream thrillers. Slidellra and Omphale have managed to sustain the suspence over the whole 37,000 words and they have written a couple of very hot and lovely sex scenes, to boot.

10:45 pm Could End Up a Story by Fryadvocate (PG-13)
Fandom: DC COMICS/SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Chloe Sullivan/Clark Kent, Selina Kyle/Bruce Wayne
Length: medium-long
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate
Author Website: http://fryadvocate.livejournal.com/tag/fanfic
Why this must be read:

Yes, Smallville is big enough that it gets a rec category of its own. And yes, Smallville has reimagined the DC universe in highly distinctive ways (but when has any adaptation not?). When you get right down to it, Smallville is still a DC world. [livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate proves she knows this by seamlessly inserting Chloe Sullivan into the regular DC world as a writer at the Daily Planet, less flashy than her cousin Lois but no less competent and no less strong. Having broken a story sure to piss off powerful people, she gets sent to Gotham to do a puff piece on Bruce Wayne--but her reporter's instincts tell her more's going on with the billionaire playboy than meets the eye. In the process of her investigation she learns more about Gotham--and its heroes--than she anticipates.

This story is a wonderful look at Gotham's underside from a different point of view than we're used to, an outsider's point of view, and it is beautifully done. It is also an excellent example of how to marry Smallville and comics canon.
