Gosh, we love the missing scene - what happened before and after the scenes we were shown? Charlotte does a fantastic job here showing us how Starsky takes care of Hutch after he rescues him from the insane Diana, who has stabbed him while in the shower, a la Psycho. Hutch's pain, and Starsky's efforts to keep him awake, and then how he sits by him in the hospital, thinking about how he ignored the signs that Hutch and Diana were in a heap of trouble, all brings us to an interesting conclusion. Hutch's eyes were still closed, and his face was more relaxed, as though in sleep. But Starsky's hand was squeezed hard.
"I'm right here, partner," he soothed, wishing both hands weren't busy so he could have petted Hutch along his shoulder and back. "It's gonna be okay now. You'll be back on your feet in no time. Hear me, babe?" He really hoped to get an answer to that question.
In the distance was the sound of a siren.
"Ambulance is just up the street," he soothed, then realized he hadn't given Hutch a chance to answer. The blond was quiet. "Hutch?"
The eyes didn't open. "Still here, partner." The voice was very low.
Starsky grinned and leaned closer. "Of course, you are," he whispered, squeezing the hand again. "Maybe next time, I'll get here a little faster, huh? Be here for you before you really need it?"
Still the eyes didn't open. Outside, the siren was very loud, then was abruptly silent.
The corners of Hutch's mouth turned up into a tiny smile. "Here now," he whispered. "'At's what counts."
Starsky gripped his hand harder. "Aw, Hutch."

They took time, slowly exploring each other's mouths, long strokes and small darting motions that told them all they needed to know about each other's mouths.
Eventually, they sighed apart and stared at one another.
"That was..." Starsky shook his head.
Hutch smiled and stroked the side of the much-loved face. "It was a long time coming, that's what it was," he said gently.
"Yeah..." Starsky sighed, closing his eyes under the soothing touch.
Hutch rubbed the scratchy evening beard, pushing his hand against the rasp, enjoying the sensation.
Starsky opened his eyes. "Thank you," he said, turning his head to kiss the palm against his face.
Taken aback, Hutch blinked and shook his head. "What for?"
