Fandom: Entourage Pairing: Vince/Eric, Vince/Others Author on LJ:: proteinscollideAuthor Website: So QuietSo if you'll recall Vinnie Chase is kind of a giant manwhore. Sometimes he even forgets who he sleeps with. That is a problem. A pretty big one. What I particularly like about this story (apart from the obvious) is that it takes place right where we left off in season four. Vince isn't exactly Hollywood's golden boy at the moment, and that subtle thread of exclusion runs through this story. It's exceedingly well-crafted--the ending is just, gah. I can't reccomend it enough. "Did either of you see a girl clearing out of here this morning?" he asks instead, curious.
"Nah," Turtle says, "Was she hot? If she was hot then I wished I had."
"Of course she was hot, the Chase men don't settle for anything less," Drama growls. "So...uh, how hot, Vince?"
"I don't remember," Vince says, "I had a lot to drink last night."
Turtle and Drama crow loudly, until Vince clutches his head, and they drop it down to some silent laughter. "Man you haven't been this wasted forever," Turtle teases, "Must've been in some mood last night."
"Oh, Vince, E left early this morning, crack of dawn almost, while I was doing my crunches."
Vince frowns again. "He say why he was out that early?" Last night, last night has something to do with Eric. A Little Closer to the Ground

Fandom: Entourage Pairing: Eric/Ari (Vince/Eric implied) Author on LJ:: givemehistoryAuthor Website: LJ MemoriesShort, gutteral, with an undenial impact. Not unlike the man himself. He's never been good with women. He can't handle his wife, and for all he talks about wanting to fuck Emily, he knows he'd never do it, even if she draped herself on his lap with those tube lips pursed invitingly.
His wife married him for the image -- the suave young agent and his glamourous wife -- but they don't really care about each other, at least not in the way he thinks couples should. And Emily, well, bless her, she knows his game well enough to give him the benefit of the charade. But everything ends there. Fool's Gold

Fandom: Entourage Pairing: Vince/Eric Author on LJ:: giganticAuthor Website: new words for the 1990sA quiet crawl through their lives that conveys their growing importance to each other, in a subtle and compelling way. "What time is your thing? The table reading's today, right?" Eric asked instead of everything he could have said, still a little groggy, a little tired, a little disbelieving.
Vince shrugged, lifted one shoulder. He said, "Not sure. It's not important."
Eric thought, of course it's important, but he didn't make Vince talk about it. Vince passed back the cigarette, continuing their exchange without effort, and Eric had never made Vince do anything -- not at eleven, not at fifteen, not yesterday. Background Noise

Fandom: Entourage Pairing: Vince/Eric Author on LJ:: dancinbutterflyAuthor Website: LJ memoriesThe title, from an Editors track by the same name, could not have been put to better use than for this story. This story is like being omnipresent in a news article--it's something that pops up on the newscycle, and it's sad and scary and worrisome, but you can't really connect with it because it happened to someone else, even if they are famous. But in this story, you're as part of it as Eric himself; that worry is made somehow more real. I refuse to call this hurt/comfort, because the comfort isn't the point, and neither is the hurt; this is a story of how bad things happen to people, and how the people who love them deal with it. Don't pass this by, even if lighthearted stories are normally your thing. I promise it's worth your read. There's a picture of Vince, beneath a blue hospital blanket, ventilator firmly in place, on the front of People. It's an old picture; it has to be because the ventilator came out half-way through week three- which is a good sign, the doctors told him: it means he's healing.
However old it is, Eric's got no idea how they have the picture, but he figures it's his fault - he'd forgotten about the paparazzi and, for once, Ari and Shauna don't yell at him about it. He's forgetting a lot of things lately.
His world has shrunk down to the chemical smelling halls of Mount Sinai in New York, so that Rita could be close to Vince. He only goes home and showers when she brings his own mother with her, and even then he has to practically be dragged by the ear before he'll go. Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors

Fandom: X-FILES Pairing: Mulder/Scully, a little bit of Mulder/Fowley Length: Novel-length Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: http://www.omniscribe.com/Why this must be read:On the whole, The X-Files isn't known for its realistic depiction of investigative work. One of the things that I love about fanfic is the way that it makes up for that gap, and Syntax6 is the queen of the X-Files police procedural. This story is as good a mystery novel as you could hope to read. A threatening serial killer, suspense, and just enough relationship angst to keep the shippers interested. The thing that I really love about it is the way it doesn't focus too tightly on Mulder and Scully: you really get the sense that there's a whole city out there, with police department, press coverage and all. Great stuff. Overnight Sensation

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Wash/Zoe, crew Length: 5135 Author on LJ: sarahetcAuthor Website: Fic &cWhy this must be read:This is a story from waaaaaaay back when, and it still stands up well as an interesting bridge between Ariel and War Stories. Wash-centric for the most part, as the writer charts the rise of the tension which will trigger Wash's explosion in War Stories. Also: what did happen to that ambulance? ( an excerpt )Laid Bare

Fandom: X-FILES Pairing: None Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: http://www.underthewing.com/branwell/Why this must be read:It's a gen supernatural casefile! Not a kind of story that I usually read, so you know that if I'm recommending this, it has to be good. While it's set as part of the Virtual Season 8, and the character interaction bears that out, the plotline bears comforting similarities to a lot of season one episodes. You know, the government base, the hazy conspiracy, the way that all of the evidence is snatched away again at the end. The nostalgically predictable nature of the plot frees the reader up to pay attention to the things that are different. And yes, things are different. Like "Bone of Contention," this story really brings home the human toll of all these shadowy experiments that we are always hearing about. It gives a sense of agency to the victim, and that is something that the show could have stood to do more often. Closed Colony, Special Stock

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Length: 17k, 28k Author on LJ: None Author Website: Sloane Bennett on The Starsky & Hutch ArchiveWhy this must be read:I love reading about the early years of the boys' partnership, and "Detour" starts there, graduating from the academy and talking about an event that happened just a few days before. While there's no clear POV, the writing is still done well enough that it doesn't matter so much - the love and the intensity is clear. Follow that with the sequel "Where the Road Ends" and we come full circle, back to that early event, and ready to take that detour again when they realize no woman is ever able to come between them or mean more to them than they do to each other. Detour: "I--" Starsky started, then quieted his voice, taking a swift look around the grounds. "I never in my life--"
"Same here," Hutch told him.
"So why did it happen? How did it happen?"
"I don't know."
Starsky blew out a breath and shrugged his shoulders, noticing how blue-grey the dark sky was above him. Only a few stars were visible.
Hutch tossed his head back, a wisp of blonde hair that had fallen onto his eyelashes going back in place.
"So what if it happens again?" Starsky asked, looking point-blank into Hutch's eyes.
"So what if it does." Ken's gaze was unyielding. Matter of fact. Just like before. It wasn't provocative, but it wasn't tame either. "Starsk, we can say a lot of things... come up with a lot of reasons and rationalizations," he began. "We can say a lot of shit. We can say that it was experimental, or for curiosity's sake or happened because we were drunk... but personally, I don't buy any of it."
Starsky listened, unmoving.
"I think whatever it was -- whatever reason it happened, came out of this," Hutch pointed to himself then Dave. "This closeness between us. This friendship between us that's so," he searched for the right word, "intense."
Hutch mused for a moment. "And I wonder in the long run if it matters -- that you and I got a little physically closer than either one of us expected."DetourWhere the Road Ends
