12:14 am In Between the Rain by tesserae_ (PG)
Fandom: STARGATE: SG-1
Pairing: Cameron Mitchell/Daniel Jackson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tesserae_
Author Website: fic tag
Why this must be read:

A gently heartbreaking Cam story, in which the Cam/Daniel is almost incidental. Almost, but not quite. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest challenge, and so goes to a place and a theme that most SG-1 stories don't go. And it's always a great theme in Cam Mitchell fic, I think. Because Cam has, the most of al SG-1 members: that searching, yearning, that obvious gap between what he sees in the mirror and what others see in him. Here the author fills in the lines of that want, and makes it stinging and real.

And as always, Daniel is right there at the end, patiently waiting for everyone else to buy a clue.

He’s jolted out of his reverie by a sharp knock on the door. It’s Jackson, looking serious and tired and unfamiliar in loose trousers and a tweedy-looking jacket.

“You ready?” Jackson says, and Cam grabs his car keys off his desk.

“I’ll drive,” he says, and Jackson nods his agreement. Which – yeah, if they can't go kill bad guys, taking the Mustang out is definitely the next best thing.

12:41 am That Inverted Bowl We Call the Sky by Rigel (PG)
Fandom: STARGATE: SG-1
Pairing: Daniel Jackson/Sha're
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rigel_7
Author Website: fic index
Why this must be read:

Daniel and Sha're, beautifully and clearly drawn. Set between the movie and the series, when they are still new to each other, still falling in love. And Daniel is still our Daniel, restless on Earth or on Abydos, always seeking out the more, trying to find out what else there is.

Sweeping a smooth area onto the floor, she traced a few lines into the sand.

"Here is Nagada and there the gateway of the gods." Her finger made the symbol – three circles and a pyramid, then she walked her fingers further.

Raking four parallel lines, she continued. "Here is desert, then comes the deep dunes and then the flat lands. Beyond that comes the city of trade."

He followed the movement of her hand intently as she formed a square, showing the boundaries of the city.

02:16 am A Free Man in Chicago, by missmollyect (PG)
Fandom: Bandom (My Chemical Romance)
Pairing:Gerard Way/Bob Bryar
Author on lj [livejournal.com profile] missmollyect
Why this Must Be Read:

So far I've recced three MCR stories and every one of them had been Gerard/Frank. That is the dominant pairing in the fandom, but it's not my favorite. I support the Gerard/Bob pairing the most, and am kind of a shameless cheerleader for it. This is a growing pairing, and a lot of it is pretty good. "A Free Man in Chicago" is one of the good ones.

This is a story that takes place during the time before Gerard got sober, and when Bob was The Used's sound man. Bob takes Gerard to his place to sleep it off, and Gerard misinterprets Bob's intentions. It's a beautiful story with a delicate touch. The characters really shine.

11:27 am Meant for Breaking by becky h. (NC-17)
Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Jack/acrobat twins
Length: 2100 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] becky_writing
Author's Website: None listed
Why this must be read:

Because it is ACROBAT TWIN porn. And hotter than a hot, hot thing. Really, that's more than enough, isn't it? I mean, this is Jack we're talking about...

Excerpt:

There wasn't a lot that scared Jack. Of the few things that did, most were universe- or, at least, world-ending disasters. None of them had a thing to do with sex, and right up until about thirty seconds ago, he would have sworn that there was nothing about sex -- at least consensual sex -- that could shake the hell out of him.

12:33 pm Coitus Interruptus by Linda Cornett (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Illya/OFC
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lcorn
Author's Website: Observations

Why this must be read:
I have to admit to a strong bias towards slash fiction. But every so often I discover a het story with such witty dialogue and intriguing characters that I just have to read it over and over.

In this story, Illya is on a stake-out, talking on his communicator to a female U.N.C.L.E. agent. They start reminiscing about past times and we gradually learn a little bit about Illya's life outside of U.N.C.L.E.. Written with humor and a great ear for the characters' speech patterns, this story is a wonderful read.

10:47 pm Much Like Wolves (NC17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Mark Smithbauer
Length: ~3,00 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] llassah
Author Website: List of Doom
Why this must be read: because [livejournal.com profile] llassah is an extremely talented writer and has built a lovely alternate universe for Fraser and Mark - a universe in which they are classical musicians - Mark on trumpet, Fraser on cello.

[livejournal.com profile] llassah's writing is sensual and dreamy, yet somehow full of powerful little details. Here is Benton Fraser, trying to slip out from under the long shadow of his famous father, trying to make his own way in the musical world of the Toronto Conservatoire. His search for a deeper emotional connection and not finding it, telling himself that this is all he can expect from life. Needing so much and settling for so little.

[livejournal.com profile] llassah draws a believable world of musical students and the strong bonds of friendship that can develop.

11:20 pm Sounding the Depths by ML (PG)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully (UST)
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: http://ml.invidiosa.com/index.html
Why this must be read:

Another instance of fic writers mending 1013's holes in character development, "Sounding the Depths" is a vignette about Mulder and Scully putting their partnership back together post-"One Son." It's subtle and satisfying, a great read. I wish I could rec a couple more similar stories to go with it, since it's a bit short, but if you're interested, I can definitely do so in the comments.
