Fandom: STARGATE SG1 Pairing: Teal'c/Cameron Mitchell Length: ~5000 Author on LJ: rydra_wongAuthor Website: LJ MemoriesWhy this must be read:This is the kind of story that you wish the show would do, except that, after reading the story, you're glad they didn't, because there's no way they'd have done it this well. It's Teal'c and Cam, off-world alone together while Daniel and Sam go for help. Well, alone excet for the Unas. And the Ori, and as if that's not enough to worry about, Cam's been snaked by a Goa'uld. Her Teal'c voice in particular is *great*; he's exactly as dry and amusing as he is in the show, and his concern for Cam (and himself, in a way) comes through loud and clear, and her Cam is perfectly in line with Cam on the show, enthusiastic and with odd skills, but with the same amount of occassional stumbling and worry. The gradual descent of the crisis from, okay, not great but not awful, to, okay, help now please, is fantastic to read. Also, it's hot as hell when they kiss. Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY Pairing: Lieutenant Myron Goldman/Sergeant Zeke Anderson
Length: 1303 words Author on LJ: majorbratAuthor Website: Notes from the Underground Why this must be read: Just about anything MajorBrat writes is a must read- she can turn up the heat between these two like no one else. This is a straight PWP and she captures the roughness and need for both of these men. There are no emotional hang-ups, just raw emotion and sex which she writes with blistering heat. Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Ziva/Jenny Length: 1000 Author on LJ: skripkaAuthor website: N/A Why this must be read: I didn't care for Jenny most of the time on the show. She had a few good moments but I find that writers of fanfic do a better job of portraying her as a fully rounded character than the show ever did. This story has layers and things unsaid are just as important as the ones spoken. Jenny took it with a wry smile. "It's not explosive, is it?"
"Of course not." Ziva waved her arms dismissively. "I would only give you explosives were we in another, more dangerous city."
"Tel Aviv? Cairo? Sarajevo?" Jenny stepped aside to let Ziva through the doorway. "Chicago? New York?" she grinned.Chain of Command

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Chris/Vin Length: 11,500 words, give or take Author on LJ: sara_merry99[Unknown site tag]Author website: sara_merry99Why this must be read: Continuing with another MOMA winner for this year, in the category of BEST ADULT NON-ATF AU, Sara gives us one of the best C/V stories ever. It's set in the Yellowstone AU, where the seven are involved with the Yellowstone National Park, either as park rangers or, in Ezra's case, as a fund-raiser for one of the non-profit organizations affiliated with the Park. It's a wonderful and different universe, modern but without the cliches that have attached to the ATF-verse and with some slight variations on the characters that make it all the more interesting.
Sara is, of course, a writer of tremendous talent, and her settings come alive almost as wonderfully as the characters do. This story is a lovely, angsty piece that begs for more. I'm very much looking forward to more from her, especially in this universe!
There were some awesome stories in this category, so it wasn't an easy win, which makes it even more well-deserved. Sepulcher Mountain

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: None Length: 1,459 words Author on LJ: malicehaughtonAuthor Website: FanFiction.Net AccountWhy this must be read: What a great idea for a story! Jackie being the first to teach the Doctor and Susan about tea and human hospitality. Also, Jackie not being phased when she figures out that her guests are aliens *and* then working out just who her guest-alien is! Plus, “Oh, no, my dear woman. We have no idea of our destination, or where we will end up next. So there’s no possible way we could be lost.” is *so* One. Earth Hospitality

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Ezra/Vin, mainly Length: novella - approx 37,000 words. Author on LJ: auburnnothennaAuthor website: http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/index.html
This won a runner-up award for the Best Adult Non-ATF AU, which means it was darn close in points to sara_merry99's " Sepulcher Mountain" which won (see my last entry). And I have to say, it would be a close vote for me as well. This is a wonderfully dark story, set during the 1970's in Vietnam - during the war, and up through the American evacuation/pull-out. Auburn does a stellar job with the characters, keeping them where we see the canon in them, but also adapting them so well to her universe that one can actually see them there. It's a dark story, though, as I said, very much like "real life" in many ways. And real war. It's those qualities to it that appeal most strongly to me, but I do warn you. Auburn does an excellent job of mixing all the elements that the reader needs to understand what's going on and why, keeping it historically accurate and realistic, but not too much so. The atmosphere is as heavy and pungent as the country it's set in, and easy to get as lost in the story as the jungles. Another very worthy award-winner. In-Country Vietnam
