Fandom: DC COMICS
Characters: Cissie King-Jones, Connor Hawke
Pairing: none
Length: ~ 2500
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] holli
Author Website: Holli's Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

Yet another pile of dysfunction-- the Arrows. That's Ollie Queen, Roy Harper, Connor Hawke, Mia Dearden and Cissie King-Jones. Canonically, only Connor is definitely Ollie's biological son but there's good case for Cissie. Cissie was stage-mommed into becoming a superhero and while she's left Young Justice, it keeps following her around. Holli's post-Crisis story is a road-trip between Cissie and Connor; a search for Cissie's mom, missing for several months; and a slow confirmation of her bloodline.

Fandom: ANGEL / BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Pairing: Buffy Summers/Spike, Winifred Burkle/Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, Lilah Morgan/Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, Lilah Morgan/Spike
Length: 96 K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jennyo
Author Website: Account at the Buffy Fiction Archive;
Jennifer-Oksana's
Why this must be read: In which Lilah Morgan has meaningless sex, eats onion rings, has more sex, falls in love, commits adultery, has a catfight with Buffy, and watches "a damn hobbit movie." Jennifer-Oksana is *the* definitive Lilah writer, and she's said that this is one of her favorite fics that she's written.

Hello! I'm [livejournal.com profile] subduction and I'm delighted to be reccing Horatio Hornblower as one of September's Monthly Featured Small Fandoms.

Fandom: HORATIO HORNBLOWER
Pairing: Horatio Hornblower/William Bush
Length: ~500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] quietcontrary
Author Website: LJ memories
Why this must be read:

When I searched for this fic in the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van memories, I was surprised to find it hadn't been recced previously, as it's one of my all-time, hands-down favourites in the fandom. [livejournal.com profile] quietcontrary packs a stunning amount of tension and heat into a tight, carefully-crafted few hundred words, and the combination of language and style make this one of the most immersive stories I've read in any fandom.

Bush's mouth is open and filled with the dark heat of the night.

04:52 pm My Dinner With Ani by Bodeewan (PG-13)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Anakin Skywalker/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Length: Approximately eight thousand words.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bodeewan
Author Website: In Vino Veritas
Why this story must be read:

And now for something completely different. My Dinner With Ani is an illustrated romantic tale on the order of How Stella Got Her Groove Back, sweet and funny and just angsty enough, with a satisfying ending. Anakin and Obi-Wan are a happy couple, although stumbling blocks of their own making nearly swamp their Love Boat. Watch out for Mr. Saheg, an unseen but pivotal character: he will make you smile. A master of manips, [livejournal.com profile] bodeewan's archive of 2005 and 2006 will reveal gorgeous manips and about three other stories, along with amazing essays; there is no representation of them in her Memories, but you won't be sorry you probed further.  The link below is for part three of the story; at the top of the entry is the link for the first two parts and the final fourth part is graciously linked at the bottom from the third part. My Dinner With Ani is itself part four of the completed Jedi High Jinks series, also linked below. Recommending that you start with My Dinner With Ani and move on to the dessert cart of the Jedi High Jinks.

[[livejournal.com profile] pronker EAD: As of November 11, 2012, the main story's link has been repaired, but the Jedi High Jinks series seems to have gone with the deleted journal. If anyone knows differently, I'd be happy to update the links.]

05:17 pm After All the Roads of My Life by kazbaby (Adult)
Hi! I am [livejournal.com profile] rositamia and I get to rec for Stargate SG-1 this month! \o/ I have fallen deeply, madly in love with Cameron Mitchell in the last little bit, even if I wasn't really sure about him at first, since he was neither Jack O'Neill nor John Crichton, two previous loves. Now, though, he rivals even Daniel Jackson for my affection (which is really saying something since I've loved him for almost a decade) so I've decided to showcase him this month. I'm going to be reccing gen, slash, and het. I hope that you find something to enjoy reading and that you'll fall as head over heels for Cam as I have.

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Gen
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kazbaby
Author Website: Unrealized Reality
Why this must be read:

story and comments contain spoilers for Continuum

Fives ways Cameron Mitchell lives his life; they each break my heart in a different way. The end of the movie itself broke my heart. That photograph in his locker made me wonder what happened to Cam. All these stories paint such painful pictures for him. But, truthfully, they make a lot more sense than a happy ending. Somehow, I can't see one for him, not really, not without his team, not alone, so completely alone. < shudder> Poor guy. I cannot even begin to imagine being that much out of time and place. He has such strong ties to his family and to his team; this would be worse than any other fate for Cameron.

After All the Roads of My Life

Update to a previous rec: Take These Broken Wings by synecdochic was previously recced. In case you're not aware, [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic posted the next story in her series: A Howling In The Factory Yard. She invited other authors into her sandbox and has been posting links to others' stories on her LJ. She also has two different communities, [livejournal.com profile] clanmitchell for stories about Cam's family, and [livejournal.com profile] farrow_marshall for a character from this story. If you like a good story, read this. Even if you don't know the characters or the fandom, read this. Start with the first story and read it all. These stories is one of the reasons I fell so hard for Cameron.

06:43 pm Indivi/Duality by chrissie
Fandom: PRINCE OF TENNIS
Title: Indivi/Duality
Characters: Yagyuu Hiroshi/Niou Masahiro [Rikkai]
Rating: PG.
Author on LJ: "Chrissie" [livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed
Author Website: Sesame Seed Radio
Why this fic must be read:

Chrissie sharpens her pen on that heavy stroke of almost obsessive-compulsive madness that Konomi hints at but dares not commit to with Yagyuu Hiroshi of Rikkai. Yagyuu doesn't like people touching him because "the way it turns him for a few seconds into someone other than himself." Since it is his fate to develop a play that relies on switching appearances with Niou Masahiro so effectively that it fools the closest observers, the tension and mystery winds up beautifully all the way to the inevitable. The story is broken up into post-internet ADHD compartments: lots of 1-sentence paragraphs and 1-webpage "chapters", but Chrissie does such a good job of tracking this fascinating mindset that the freeze-frame choppiness is forgiven.

08:40 pm Advice From a Caterpillar by Pat Foley (PG)

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Gen
Length: 22,000 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Pat Foley's FanFiction Web site

Why this must be read:
Almost five years ago, Pat Foley was one of the very first authors ever recommended in the Man From U.N.C.L.E. section of [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, and rightly so. The story was "Partners". Since that time her stories "Pawn to Kings Two", "Intrinsic Natures" and "Alternate Endings" have all also been mentioned here.

"Advice From a Caterpillar" is Part Three of her Wonderland series (Part One was "Pawns to Kings Two", mentioned above. Part Two is Shadows).

Illya Nickovetch Kuryakin has been sent to New York as the Soviet Union's first representative to U.N.C.L.E. Before he even gets in Del Floria's someone tries to assassinate him. Another organization wants him to remain detached from Soviet contacts. Illya is caught between the KGB, the GRU and Solo, who frankly just does not like him. In addition, he's adjusting to a different lifestyle, one where he does not have to supplement his food allowance by foraging in Central Park
