Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: JC/Justin
Length: 9000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid
Author Website: improvidence
Why this must be read:

It's Diwali today, so what better way to celebrate than a story about JC's healing hands? Also, sex. *g* Lily has always had a knack for writing stories that touch on spirituality in a very real, tangible, thoughtful manner without divorcing it from life and messiness and sexuality; she also is one of those happy writers who is able to take a slightly odd, hackneyed premise (JC has healing powahs!) and create a nuanced and textured story from it. Her characterization is gorgeous, and this is the perfect read for those of us who like things that are beautiful but not necessarily painless.

12:56 pm Damascus by nightdog_barks (PG-13)
Fandom: HOUSE M.D.
Pairing: House-Wilson friendship
Length: 3,700 words
Author on LJ: Author's LJ writing journal profile
Author Website: nightdog_writes
Why this must be read: I'd really love to rec this writer's extraordinary AU series The Annals, which has House and Wilson in ancient Rome, but that's technically a work-in-progress. So I'm picking another of my favorites of her stories. "Damascus" centers around House giving Wilson a gift that is both unusual and unusually thoughtful for someone as self-centered as House.

04:59 pm The World Spins Madly On by Sheepfairy (PG-13)
I was quite distressed to realize that I haven't recommended any hot woman-on woman action so far. Definitely time to rectify that right now!

Fandom: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: Kira/Lupaza
Length: 11k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sheepfairy
Author Website: Planet Fiction

Why this must be read:

The World Spins Madly On is a brilliant exploration of Kira's time in the resistance, and what happened when the Occupation ended. Through a series of vignettes, the author reveals how those years were both the best and worst of times for Kira, and how they indelibly formed her character.

Kira and Lupaza is an unusual pairing, but Sheepfairy makes it feel like canon. The relationship between these two women is multi-layered and poignant, much like Kira's involvement in the resistance itself. While the actual sex between them is a very small component of the story, it's a sensual and funny moment that tells us a great deal about life in the Shakaar cell.

Fandom: GRAVITATION
Pairing: Yuki/Shuuchi
Length: chaptered
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dhrachth
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/162216/dhrachth
Why this must be read:

Nice, and entertaining. You don't often get long Gravitation stories so this is a real treat.

"You like my song?" Shuichi asked almost disbelievingly. "You really like it?"

"I wouldn't go quite that far," Yuki said repressively. "But, it's not as bad as usual. With a few changes it might be almost passable." Picking up the well-chewed pen Shuichi had left on the coffee table, Yuki started crossing things out and writing in a word here and there. "Here," Yuki said, handing Shuichi back the page.

Shuichi took back the song and read it through. "You crossed out two whole verses, rearranged the chorus, and totally rewrote the English part!" Shuichi protested.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair pre-slash
Length: 9,791 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dolimir_k
Author Website: 852 Prospect Fic Index
Why this must be read:

Another AU, this story shows what could have happened if Jim and Blair met before Jim's abilities come back online. Jim's still in Vice, doing a dirty job well, and Blair's doing the best he can to get through his master's degree. It's an interesting take on a period we know very little about, and you can almost imagine things "really" happened like this.

09:11 pm To The O'Briens With Love by Fire Frog (PG)
And now for something completely different. . .

Fandom: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: O'Brien/Keiko O'Brien, Garak/Bashir
Length: novel length
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Fire Frog's Deep Space Nine Slash Story Page

Why this must be read:

In the interests of full disclosure, I must warn you that this story is an mpreg -- no, don't run away! Let me assure you that I believe that any author who writes a fanfic (other than a parody) featuring a pregnant man should be beaten with dead Cardassian voles, and the story itself banished to the Bajoran fire caves.

Except this one.

In canon, a pregnant Keiko O'Brien was badly injured and Doctor Bashir had no choice but to transfer the baby into Kira. Fire Frog reboots this weird storyline, except this time Kira can't be the surrogate because of her alien physiology. What makes this mpreg work is that the author never pretends that a pregnant human male is anything other than a really bad idea, both physically and psychologically. However, Fire Frog cleverly exploits canon facts about Doctor Bashir to explain why he might just take this incredibly foolish risk.

Plus, from baby names to disappearing penises, this story is as funny as hell.
