01:45 am Helpmate Series by subterrain (NC-17)
Fandom: MARVEL: IRON MAN (Movie AU)
Pairing: Tony Stark/Pepper Potts
Length: novella
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] subterrain
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: When I saw that this was a genderfuck (always-a-boy) story, well, let's just say I was dubious. But as it turns out, all my suspicions were confounded by subterrain's gorgeous, gorgeous writing. This is such a lovely, bittersweet look at Pepper's life and the way Tony changes it, both subtly and in humongous ways. This story isn't to be missed. Go, read. *shoos you off*

06:08 am Eerie-ass Physics by Kispexi2 (R)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Mal/Simon
Length: 4,355 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kispexi2
Author Website: Kispexi's writing LJ
Why this must be read: Kispexi2 does wonderful character voices and relationship dynamics. Her Mal-voice is especially a joy to read. She clearly loves her characters, both together and separately, but she never makes the course of true love run either unrealistically smooth or melodramatically angsty. Instead she deals thoughtfully and believably with their issues and troubles, creating a compelling and fully-realized relationship...as well as palpable heat.

11:03 am Sector fifteen by toestastegood (NC-17)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Charlie/Sawyer (side pairings of Ana/Michael, Jin/Sun, Claire/Charlie)
Length: 7900
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] toestastegood
Author Website: Master Fic list.

Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] toestastegood writes very original and in character Charlie-centric fics and this one in particular is very fascinating.
It's an apocalyptic AU and the claustrophobic atmosphere is perfectly balanced by the elusive but sweet connection between Charlie and Sawyer, drawn to each other like ships in the night. Even if you didn't think about this pairing before, I think this fic could change your mind.
Also, she expanded this 'verse with a few other fics that deal with different characters and a sequel of this one. Here you can find more details about those fics: Sector 'verse links.

Summary:
'The human population is: One-Two-Four-Two-Three-Eight. Please remember to locate your breeding partner as soon as possible. The curfew is in one-oh-eight minutes, please be in your sectors by this time.'

Excerpt:
“Stalker,” that British accent accused from to his right. Sawyer’s head whipped around quickly to see him, Charlie leaning against the wall beside him with his arms crossed and a smile on his face, as always. He must’ve crept up – it wasn’t hard, with the sound of thousands of people moving around them – when Sawyer wasn’t looking.

01:39 pm These Years of Madness by sarken (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: Janeway/Chakotay
Length: short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sarken
Author Website: Manhattan Trash
Why this must be read: Simply written but very powerful. This is the way Janeway and Chakotay break over the years, slowly yet surely.

"You haven't slept in two days," you say, and you know you're being conservative. You always say two days; you can't stand to think that you've been here almost four years now. You can't let anything outside the next twenty-four or the last forty-eight hours exist. She feels all seventy years of this journey enough for both of you.

01:49 pm M'Ina by monkee (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: none
Length: short
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Monkee's stories
Why this must be read: When Samantha Wildman's baby dies, but she ends up getting a new one within the next 30 minutes of the show, I think people tend to ignore how deeply emotional of an event it was. Monkee goes back and fills in those missing parts of "Deadlock" and I think monkee does an admirable job dealing with Samantha's pain and the crew's reaction.

06:00 pm I Got Me a Nice Little Place in the Stars by luzdeestrellas (pg)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Length: ~25K words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] luzdeestrellas
Author Website: tag list on LJ
Why this must be read:

This is 25K words of brotherly banter and emoporn, of Sam learning how awesome Dean is, and how much he loves him (and how much Dean loves him, and is willing to do for him). It's AU, but not by much - it could have gone down like this - and the long, slow unfolding of their slide into a sexual relationship, of Sam realizing what he wants and getting Dean to give it to him, really works for me here. Plus, it's funny and hot and made me all achy in the chestal area.

In the interest of full disclosure, I suppose I should mention that I betaed this story, but all beta bias aside, you should totally read it. And don't forget to leave feedback if you enjoy it.

07:16 pm The Needs of the Few by Brenda Shaffer-Shiring (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: None
Length: 3800 words
Author on LJ: none
Author Website: Brenda Shaffer-Shiring on Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:

Ben Sisko and Michael Eddington were a lot more alike than either would have believed, what with their shared penchants for over the top speeches, ethically ambiguous decision making, and dearth of cranial hair. Like Siskso, Eddington was a complex character doing what he thought was right in a complex situation; unlike Sisko, Eddington found himself on the wrong side of the official line.

This fic examines why Eddington joined the Maquis -- or, more precisely, the circumstances under which a perfectly unremarkable Starfleet officer came to the absolutely remarkable conclusion that it's easy to be a saint in Paradise, and harder to be a moral person living in a world of shades of gray.
