Why this must be read:Because remix is often ignored in terms of feedback and it's created some of my most favourite stories ever (as seen in my last two recs). Because I love stories about Chris and Justin as best friends that includes this kind of tension. And because I adore all of the boys in this.

Fandom: STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: None
Length: 9,000 words

Why this must be read:
In honor of the American holiday celebrating mismatching survivors banding together against adversity and eating themselves silly, here is ... a DS9 story about a bunch of mismatched survivors banding together against adversity and eating themselves silly. (So to speak.)
"Internment Camp 317" is the story of what happens between Bashir's arrival in the Dominion prison and the eventful day when a Klingon, a Romulan, and a human walked into a bar 37 days later.  Jewels does a great job bringing Tain, Martok, Kalenna, and Bashir to life in a way which is true to their personalities.  As she shows, the way in which the different species work together to beat Dominion is something they can all appreciate.

06:11 pm Compass and Knife by Brigdh (PG)
Fandom: SWORDSPOINT
Pairing: Alec/Richard
Length: circa 1K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wordsofastory

Why this must be read:

Brigdh’s Compass and Knife was written as a stocking filler in Yuletide 2007, and fits neatly after the end of Privilege of the Sword. It’s a piece which draws heavily, Bridgh says in her introduction, on her memories of Cyprus, and the smell and taste of the island are detailed with sun drenched clarity, but I like the avoidance of sentimentality in this relationship which could never be other than difficult. Kushner does not entertain conventional happy endings.

'"Does it always take blood for you?" Richard asks.'

Why this must be read:

This is an AU where it's Passover, and everyone is Jewish. The story's fun, and it's funny, and the characters are very sweet to each other, but there are also moments that are complex and made me think. The story is built from vignettes using multiple POVs, and each and every one of them sound like the characters, with a few stylistic modifications thrown in. It's a lovely family piece.

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS.
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bistokids
Author's fic site: Bistokids' Fic Index
Pairing: Sam/Gene
Word count: 3067.
Why this must be read: It's a follow-on from [livejournal.com profile] bistokids' earlier Fitness First, wherein the general and overall level of fitness amongst members of Manchester CID in 1973 is called into question. Some, however, were a bit confused as to where the slash came into play. "Stamina" was written to stop this particular line of questioning before it could get too far. It's not only hot, but hilarious into the bargain. I'm posting it today because if you're in the US, chances are you're feeling fairly bloated and perhaps even a bit ill right now from being overstuffed. Therefore, Dr. Janni suggests you take in a bit of both "Fitness" and "Stamina" and call me in the morning if you're still feeling any...untoward cramping. ;)

11:00 pm The Guy Next Door by Jennifer Lee (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: Paris/Torres
Length: medium
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read: Ensign Greg Kronden can't sleep through the night because he has the misfortune of having quarters right next to B'Elanna's... and boy is she noisy. To top it off, Seven seems to be stalking him! What's a guy to do? Very cute third party pov of Paris/Torres, and even though Greg is a bit of a sap, it's always nice to have some fresh OCs.

11:34 pm Voyager Nights by Dave Rogers (G)
Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: Paris/Torres
Length: short
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Dave's Voyager Fan Fiction
Why this must be read: The song "Summer Nights" from Grease rewritten for Voyager. Very cute and extremely well written - Dave preserves the beat and syllables of the original song - and perfect for "Voyager: The Musical," something I would very much like to see. Here's a link to the original song so you can hum along while you read :)

11:49 pm Equinox Interludes by Julie Evans (PG-13)
Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: Burke/Torres, Paris/Torres
Length: long
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Julie's Fanfic
Why this must be read: A welcome addition to the episode Equinox. I like how it fleshes out the episode and Burke and Torres' backstory. The tension between Burke and Paris is great, I wish they'd have more time to play that up in the episode. Some great discussion regarding Torres and Paris' relationship and good characterization.
