We know Holmes keeps Watson’s checkbook in his desk. On this particular day, however, Holmes is out and Watson needs to pay the local tobacconist’s boy, who is making a delivery. When Watson opens Holmes’s desk, he discovers a box that isn’t tightly shut. To his shock, the box contains pictures of a naked Holmes with another man.

Watson knows that Holmes will discover the photos have been moved. But before he can say anything to Sherlock he has to struggle for a while to come to terms with what he saw. Of course, he is aware that eventually he will have to discuss it. He just isn't sure what his reaction is.

What I really like about the story is that from this point on it does not turn into a simple tale of Watson discovering Holmes likes men; Watson and Holmes fall into bed. Instead, the bulk of the story is about Holmes and Watson working through their emotions and fears.

Merlyn does a good job of portraying the characters’ thoughts and keeping them true to their canon personalities.

There are a few typing issues, such as ‘bare’ for ‘bear,’ but nothing that renders the story unreadable.

Why this must be read:

It's a story about the past and the future, about loneliness and security; about fear and love, family and home. And all written in capital letters.

"Did I ever tell you I´ve been kidnapped when I was a kid?"

Taken completely off-guard by the question, Starsky stared with his mouth still open. "Uh... Ah... Wh..." he stammered, obviously not going to be released by Hutch, who just blinked at him questioningly. "Wh-what?" the smaller man finally managed. "What d´you mean, 'kidnapped'?"

Despite the content of their conversation, the blond shrugged casually. "You know, kindnapped. Taken. Captured. Held against my will." He paused, seemingly thinking about other synonyms and shrugged again. "Kidnapped."

Starsky doubted his eyes could grow any wider. His mouth opened and closed against his will, until he once more regained his speech. "Wh-when?"

Again, Hutch shrugged, not aware that his partner decided to physically restrain him if he´d do that ONE MORE TIME. "Dunno, when I was twelve or so. Eleven, I think. Really a long time ago. I was just a kid."

Silence followed, Hutch´s fingers busy scrambling the label off the innocent bottle, while his partner watched him with growing unease.

Starsky waited as long as he could, but after a few seconds couldn´t restrain himself any longer. "Well, NO, Hutch," he burst out, "you NEVER told me `bout that. Please do now!"

Why this must be read:

Author's summary: When the end comes, one brother is on one side, and the other on the opposite.

I'm shocked that this hasn't been recced already and gleeful that I get to do it. Crossovers, when done well, teach you something about both (or all) fandoms and characters involved. Set the whole premise at the end of the world, and it's either going to be a hell of a ride or hell of a let down.

This fic is the former. It explores the lives of mutants through the Winchester brothers, taking us through the events of X-3 through outsider eyes, and shows us more about both worlds than I ever imagined possible.

This is a great read.
