04:44 pm peace comes dropping slow by thedeadparrot (PG)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Martha, Chloe/Jimmy, implied Clark/Lois
Length: 3600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] parrotfic
Why this must be read: Martha Kent's one of my favourite Smallville characters and in this story, she's the watchful centre of a holiday get-together (AU in S8). Clark, Chloe, Lois and Jimmy all flit in and out of the story while Martha watches and remembers. And, yeah, it's my second rec this month by the same author. When you're good, you're good!

09:13 pm Poetry by C. Isaac (no rating given, but we’ll go with PG)
Fandom: TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES
Pairing: none, really, but John and Allison with a slight John/Cameron tone
Length: ~1,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cisaac
Author Website: none listed

Why this must be read:

The author’s summary of this quiet fic says: Poetry found in the ruins are prayers against the dark. And that’s what this story is, poetry and a prayer. Set after the events of Born to Run, C. Isaac gives us a glimpse of life in the ruins and of the duality that John Connor now faces, especially in the form of Allison, who is not Cameron, but he can’t quite break free of thinking sometimes that she is.

10:37 pm Trail Of Terror by Mona Pulsipher (PG-13)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: 369kB
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: HERE
Why this must be read:

Today something different. First of all – it's a vacation story. And, of course, it's not a vacation Starsky and Hutch expected to be. Of course. There are many really well written supporting characters, there is a lot of action, there is great humor and there is, of course, love. If you like hurt/comfort stories – no matter which one of them hurts and who comforts – you will find it here. If you like case stories – it's here. If you like happy ends – yep, you should read it.
"I thought... you said this... was supposed... to be a 'moderate'... hike?" he gasped out between breaths.

Hutch mopped his forehead with a large bandana and stuffed it back in his pocket. "It is."

"I was afraid you were gonna say that."

With an encouraging pat to the brunet's shoulder, Hutch said, "You'll survive, Gordo. I'll take point for now, Starsk. The map shows that the trail narrows significantly here as we climb, so just take it slow, and watch where you put your feet, okay?"

"Lead on, 'Dan'l'. I'm right behind ya."

Hutch grinned, and turned to head back up the trail. He set a somewhat slow, but steady pace for their climb. The trail narrowed to no more than eighteen inches wide at a few points, and at others, one slip would send an unwary hiker sliding down thirty-foot slopes to land in the creek below.

Forty-five minutes later, the two men crested the top of the first grade and came to an immediate halt. Turning back on the way they'd just come, they could see the expanse of the valley and the mountain range beyond laid out before them. Shadows created by the waning afternoon sun cast long patterns of light and dark for miles over the hillsides and across the valley floor. High above their heads, the cry of a hunting Red Tail Hawk drifted down to them. It was the only sound to be heard in the vast expanse of space before them.

Starsky leaned in close to Hutch's ear and whispered. "Know what?"

The blond's eyebrows raised in silent question.

"It was worth it."

11:24 pm Tony's dry spell by Xanthe (R)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo
Length: 3 700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] xanthelj
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] xanthestories
Why this must be read:

I realize that this makes two recs for Xanthe’s stories, but this is so very different from “Damages” that it’s not even in the same universe of writing. This is crack and humor and just so ridiculously funny. For all of us who think that Tony’s character has been going quite steeply downhill in the last few months, this is the crack story that explains why. Xanthe does a fantastic job in putting together the clues – although the conclusion might not be what you expect.

Absolutely hilarious. Post 6x18 “Knockout”. And a fair warning: don’t drink anything while reading this.
